City of South Lake Tahoe sells property to Halferty Development for $3.1 million

Portions of the land where Knight's Inn currently sits and the corner lot at Ski Run Boulevard and Highway 50 were sold today to the Halferty Development Corporation for $3,100,000.

During a special meeting of the City Council two agreements were approved. The first was a Commercial and Disposition and Development Agreement (CDDA) and the second was a Purchase and Sale Agreement by and between the City of South Lake Tahoe and Halferty.

Monitor Pass opens with almost 20 feet of snow still along roadway

Caltrans crews have been working on seasonally closed mountain highway to get them open for spring and summer travelers.

Monitor Pass/State Route 89 opened Monday afternoon, while District 10 maintenance crews continue to clear Sonora Pass/SR-108 and Ebbetts Pass/SR-4. Yosemite National Park handles the clearing of Tioga Pass/SR-120.

After the wettest winter in over 100 years there are still some areas of upper passes with 20 feet of snow.

Several pounds of prescriptions gathered during area Drug Take Back Day

Law enforcement agencies and volunteers around the country participated in Drug Take Back Day on April 29, taking tons of medications off of the streets.

Both Douglas County and the City of South Lake Tahoe took part. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office had their Citizen Patrol volunteers staff five locations both at the lake and in the valley. They didn't measure the drugs in pounds, but in box fulls.

Staff was able to turn in 18 boxes of medications, which was more than last October’s collection.

TrapBags installed along Carson River to prevent flooding in Douglas County

A temporary levee-like barrier has been placed along the East Fork of the Carson River near the Aspen Mobile Home Park in anticipation of flooding as the snow continues to melt in the Sierra.

Douglas County, Carson Valley Conservation District and the mobile home park worked together to get on a temporary fix called "TrapBag." 600 feet of these barriers were installed along the river.

Some USFS campgrounds in Lake Tahoe opening May 12

Snow is preventing some Lake Tahoe West Shore campgrounds from opening, but others are ready to go beginning May 12, 2017.

The West Shore campgrounds still have a large amount of snow at lake level which is causing the delay in their opening. Meeks Bay Campground will open on May 19, and Kaspian and William Kent campgrounds will open on June 2.

Fallen Leaf Campground will open May 12, but some sites will be closed due to wet conditions.

USFS announces West Shore fuels reduction project

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) released the final decision to reduce hazardous fuels on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. The West Shore Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Fuels Reduction and Forest Health Project will treat approximately 4,875 acres extending from Emerald Bay to Burton Creek State Park.

Linkin Park with Machine Gun Kelly to play at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Concert series

Linkin Park announced their One More Light World Tour today, and they'll be making a stop at the lake on Friday, September 1 at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys.

They will hit the stage with special guest Machine Gun Kelly.

In an effort to put tickets into the hands of real fans, first access to tickets for the One More Light World Tour will be reserved exclusively for fans – not scalpers or bots, just as Eric Church has done with his tour (he follows Linkin Park on September 2 and 3).

Reunion for former employees of Park Tahoe and Caesars Tahoe

Employees from the original Park Tahoe (1978-1979) and early years of Caesars Tahoe (1979-1985) are gathering again this summer for the second reunion of former co-workers and their families.

They gathered in 2012 and the event was such a big success, organizers decided to do it again based on the feedback they received over the last five years.

This year's event will be held at MontBleu Casino Resort on July 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The cost is $89 per person and covers everything including a DVD with memories of the old days and a souvenir tee shirt. Bar is not included.

Nevada tourism honors South Shore and Carson Valley residents

The Nevada Division of Tourism recognized outstanding members of the state’s rural tourism industry at the VolunTourism Awards Dinner April 27 in Elko. The awards ceremony was a highlight of the state’s annual Rural Roundup conference.

“Tourism is a significant component of rural Nevada economies,” Claudia Vecchio, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs director, said. “It is a $2.3 billion industry that continues to grow thanks to the efforts of the tourism professionals in rural Nevada. It is our pleasure to recognize those efforts with this year’s VolunTourism awards.”

Construction resumes on Incline Village to Sand Harbor shared use trail

National Drug Take Back Day in South Lake Tahoe and Douglas County

People's Climate March in South Lake Tahoe Saturday

Prescribed burning to continue around Lake Tahoe

If conditions are favorable next week, North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy, and the U.S. Forest Service may continue prescribed fire operations on April 24, 2017.

Scheduled operations would be near Meeks Bay, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village, Glenbrook, Round Hill, Lower Kingsbury Grade, South Lake Tahoe, and Meyers. Weather permitting, operations may continue over the next several weeks.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls due to slope damage.

State Route 89 (Placer County/El Dorado County): Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from the Tahoe City “Wye” to Alpine Meadows Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and from Valley View Drive to General Creek State Park from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for dead tree removal.

Volunteer at California State Parks this Earth Day

There's only a few more hours to register to volunteer for the 19th Earth Day Restoration and Cleanup Event at California State Parks on on Saturday, April 22. The closest opportunity for those in the Lake Tahoe area is at Grover Hot Springs.

From 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., volunteers will be doing maintenance and development of the Native Plant Demonstration Garden, weed removal and landscaping at the park in Markleville, 30 miles south of South Lake Tahoe.

South Shore youth treated to 10,000 eggs and prizes at Lake Valley Fire hunt

Children from the Meyers and South Lake Tahoe communities took part in the Lake Valley Fire Protection District's (LVFPD) second annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday at Tahoe Paradise Park.

10,000 plastic eggs were hidden in the park, each filled with candy, Lake Valley tattoos and some special golden eggs with prizes.

Jamie Sessions, and her husband LVFPD Fleet Manager Andrew Session, took two of their chickens to the event for the kids and their families to enjoy.

Crews clearing seasonally closed Sierra passes, some opening dates projected

Snow, rocks, boulders, trees and debris are being cleared from roads through the Sierra Nevada that have been closed all winter. Caltrans crews from Districts 9 and 10 are plowing through several feet of snow in some area. While some roads will be opening soon, many have a lot of work to be done before they can open to traffic.

Crews will inspect the road, bridges, culverts to make sure the road is safe for the public before reopening. They will also replace signs that tumbled during the winter.

USFS announces Lake Tahoe recreational facilities opening dates

Weather and snow conditions permitting, Lake Tahoe recreational facilities will soon be open! The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) announced today they will begin opening some spots in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Inspiration Point will be the first site to open on April 15, 2017. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center opens May 19 and will be staffed weekends only until Memorial Day weekend. The Tallac Historic Site parking area opens May 1 and will be staffed beginning Saturday, May 27.

A newly formed entity controlled by ski resort operator Aspen Skiing Company, LLC and private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, owners of Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, will buy Intrawest Resorts Holdings for about $1.5 billion including debt, it was announced Monday.

Intrawest Resorts Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SNOW) is a leading North American mountain resort and adventure company.

Douglas County declares State of Emergency prior to Spring runoff

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have declared a State of Emergency in preparation for the potential of flooding associated with spring runoff and for stormy conditions such as this weekend. . The declaration has been submitted to the State of Nevada and will allow regional partners to expedite mitigation efforts as well as speed up the delivery of resources required to more effectively respond to an emergency.

Weather permitting, prescribed burning to continue in Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD), California State Parks (Parks) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) have scheduled more prescribed burns in the Lake Tahoe area, as long as weather permits the operations.

Starting Monday, April 10, burning may take place near Tahoe City, Glenbrook, Round Hill, Lower Kingsbury Grade, South Lake Tahoe, and Meyers.

Mt Rose & Donner Ski Ranch are Closed. Other Resorts on Delayed openings after Snow Safety… Call Ahead! Grab the Fat Boards… Surface Conditions are Powder & Machine Groomed… Road Controls posted on roadways in and around Lake Tahoe… Buckle Up, Have Fun & Be Safe!
