Ridge Tahoe acquired by Holiday Inn Club Vacations
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/13/2019 - 12:41amSTATELINE, Nev. - The 378-room Ridge Resorts at the top of Kingsbury Grade on the South Shore has been purchased by Holiday Inn Club Vacations Incorporated, a national vacation ownership company.
The multi-faceted 11-acre property has been a timeshare resort since it was built in 1982.
Under previous ownership, The Ridge Resorts has operated as four different properties: The Ridge Tahoe, The Ridge Pointe, The Ridge View and The Ridge Crest; however, in late 2020, the entire resort will be branded as Holiday Inn Club Vacations Tahoe Ridge Resort and begin operating as one resort.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals to hold mixers on both north and south shores

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will host two networking mixers. On the South Shore, their networking mixer is on Wednesday, October 9, and on the North Shore, the mixer is on Tuesday, October 15.
Everyone in the community are invited to attend these events, regardless of age. Although membership is encouraged and available for purchase at events, it is not required.
Fox & Hound reopens after deck fire forced closure in July
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/23/2019 - 6:13pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Popular Kingsbury Grade restaurant, Fox & Hound, has reopened after a small July 9 fire on their deck caused by a generator forced them to close. The restaurant has undergone a complete renovation over the past ten weeks.
For 27 plus years, Fox & Hound has served locals and visitors with great food and a great view of the Carson Valley. They are located near the Ridge Tahoe, Nevada-side ski lifts, Tahoe Rim Trail.

Ski and west shore buses on the transit hit list; service added to Meyers
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/13/2018 - 2:12pmWith a goal of being sustainable, Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is changing the way they provide transit in Lake Tahoe starting November 1, 2018.
"This is a reboot, not an end," said Carl Hasty, TTD District Manager at the District's board meeting Friday. "We'll all feel some pain but it's not the end."
There will be some cut routes, reduced hours, elimination of winter shuttles along with an addition of service to Meyers. Buses will now operate 14 hours a day instead of the current 20 hours.

Man severely burned after falling asleep at a Lake Tahoe resort
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/05/2017 - 10:59amA man who was visiting Lake Tahoe is now in the U.C. Davis Burn Center after falling asleep in front of a fireplace and catching on fire.
Just after midnight on December 5, Tahoe Douglas Fire crews responded to the Ridge Tahoe on a call of a man burned in a fire in one of their rooms. The unidentified man fell asleep in front of a gas fireplace. He awoke to find himself on fire and called for help. Firemen extinguished the fire and the man was transported via Cal Star to the burn center. He was reported to have severe burns to just under 50 percent of his body.

Free bus passes for LTCC students, Ridge Tahoe and Heavenly employees
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/18/2017 - 2:27pmThe Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) Board of Directors approved several funding agreements with local entities Friday which will provide free rides for several groups including Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) students, employees and guests of the Ridge Tahoe and associated properties, as well as Heavenly Mountain Resort employees.
The agreement between TTD and Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) to allow current students with a valid Lake Tahoe Community College identification card to ride all local transit services at no charge during the academic year ending June 30, 2018.

Douglas County room tax may increase 1% to fund event center at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/16/2017 - 10:07pmTransient Lodging License taxes may soon be increased one percent at properties in the Lake Tahoe portion of Douglas County (Lake Tahoe Township) to fund redevelopment projects including the addition of an event/convention center.
Overwhelming support for the tax increase was evident at the Douglas County Commissioner's meeting Thursday, where the elected officials voted 4-1 to approve the increase which would go into effect May 1, 2017.

Currently, Bread & Broth serves a full-course ‘Monday Meal’ at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and a soup and simple entrée at ‘Second Serving’ at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church on Fridays. These two weekly meals and the food ‘give away’ bags distributed at the meals are supported by generous stores, businesses and restaurants who have donated food, beverages and soups to our program throughout the past year.

The rustic Tahoe mountain venue has expanded its Clubhouse by 2,300 square feet, added two state of the art meeting rooms highlighted by architectural details including complementary natural wood decor, 16-foot high ceilings, and large windows allowing for natural ambient light.

LTVA uses interactive tools to help visitors plan their Lake Tahoe vacations

Six months ago they launched "Explore Your Trip," a itinerary planning tool on their website that helps travelers plan their trip based on what they like to do, what their budget, what they like to each and many other categories.

Over 1,200 people attend Sample the Sierra in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/01/2014 - 6:38amWith blue skies and warm temperatures, many people were out enjoying everything there is to do in South Lake Tahoe this holiday weekend. Many events from a carnival to fireworks were held, giving people plenty to choose from.
One of these events was the 5th Annual Sample the Sierra Farm to Fork Festival. The main event was held at Bijou Community park on Sunday, with over 1,200 people enjoying food and drink from the region. There were 16 booths of local food, wine, beer and spirits as well as an artisan marketplace, live music and a cooking contest with a mystery box of ingredients.
Kingsbury Fire below Ridge Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/27/2014 - 1:03pm5:35 p.m. update: Fire crews are getting a hand on a brush fire that was burning on the valley side of Kingsbury Grade. Hwy 207 is still closed at the top.
Two heavy air tankers, one single engine air tanker and one helicopter responded as well as multiple fire agencies. Containment is expected soon on the fire.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, fire numbers were near six acres and they have reevaluated it to be 1.5 acres. There is no threat to homes or structures at this time.

The kick off event for this weekend's Sample the Sierra will be a fundraiser for the Geodome/Grow Dome at Sierra House Mountain Academy.
Pop-Up Dinner will be held at the Lake Tahoe Community College from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The menu is curated and cooked by Chef Stephen Moise, the Executive Chef of The Ridge Tahoe and former Corporate Chef for Tommy Hilfiger. The meal will highlight local ingredients, including produce from the University of Nevada-Reno, ribs from the Carson Valley and crayfish from Tahoe Lobster Company.

Volunteers Remove 2,260 Pounds of Trash From Six Lake Tahoe Beaches

Several groups have been participating in the Adopt a Beach cleanup program that is getting volunteers out to clean up the mess, both trash and fireworks debris.
The League to Save Lake Tahoe had over 120 volunteers participate in their annual Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue Beach Cleanup. They cleaned at Commons Beach in Tahoe City, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Shoals on the East Shore, and Kiva, Regan and El Dorado beaches on the South Shore for a total of about 3 miles of shoreline.

All proceeds from this evening of food and wine will benefit the local kids -- helping them be great!
Guests were treated to name vintages, cordials and beer for the evening courtesy of Southern Wine and Spirits and appetizers buffet courtesy of Edgewood Tahoe.

The new self-operated, gondola-type car, which will begin operating next week, will transport skiers from the Ridge Tahoe to the Stagecoach Chairlift. The 8-passenger gondola-type transport sits on a track and with the swipe of a room key, will take passengers down the slope side right to the Stagecoach Chairlift at Heavenly Mountain Resort within minutes.
