Liberty Utilities outages remain the same.

Jack Johnson latest entertainer announced for Lake Tahoe outdoor arena at Harveys

And then there were three.

The third concert booked for the summer of 2017 for the Harvey's Lake Tahoe Outdoor Concert series has been announced. On July 28, singer-songwriter Jack Johnson will perform as part of his summer tour, bringing his popular blend of music to the South Shore. Presale ticket sales begin February 15 with public sales on February 17.

He joins Train with O.A.R. and Third Eye Blind as acts booked so far for the popular concert series.

TRPA accepting Lake Spirit Award nominations

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is looking for nominees for the 2017 Lake Spirit Award, a recognition of people who exhibit a special dedication to conserving Lake Tahoe.

From installing erosion control measures to minimizing car trips, everyone can help Lake Tahoe and those that are committed to the a spirit of cooperation and protecting the lake are eligible.

Rick Taylor 1948-2017

Long time South Lake Tahoe area resident and businesses owner Rick Taylor passed away on January 22, 2017 with his family by his side following a brief illness.

Taylor, 68, was a cherished husband and loving father.

Rick was born on May 24, 1948 in Long Beach, CA and was a resident of the South Shore since 1975. Taylor was the owner of South Y Fireplace since 1989.

Monthly gaming figures released: Nevada down, South Shore up

Casinos on the South Shore are once again on the positive end of the monthly income report from the Nevada Gaming Board (NGB) released Tuesday.

For the first half of the fiscal year, a combination of Harrah's, Harvey's, MontBleu, Hard Rock and Lakeside Inn have had positive gains in income with a 7.65 percent increase over the same time period in 2015.

NGB reports that casinos in the area had a "win" of $18,724,329, a gain of 4.31 percent over December 2015. South Shore casinos have a net "win" of $122,510,544 to date this fiscal year.

South Lake Tahoe women win medals during Aspen's X Games

Women from the South Shore of Lake Tahoe will once again bring home medals from the X Games held this weekend in Aspen, Colorado.

South Lake Tahoe's Elena Hight, 27, made her thirteenth X Games appearance, and is now a six-time medalist. She won the Women's Snowboard SuperPipe with a 87.33 over Xuetong Cai and Chloe Kim. Another South Lake Tahoe rider, 30-year-old Hannah Teter, came in eighth. She too is a six-time medalist in the X Games.

South Lake Tahoe's Measure T deemed unconstitutional

Friday was the end of voter approved Measure T in South Lake Tahoe.

During a January 27 court hearing in Placerville, EL Dorado County Superior Court Judge Jim Wagoner said that Measure T was fundamentally flawed, unconstitutional and unenforceable.

South Lake Tahoe trio returns to town for TAP's Tahoe Boys Variety Show

They are all graduates of South Tahoe High School (STHS) and returning for a week of variety shows at local schools culminating with a special Friday night performance at MontBleu on February 3. 2017.

Brothers Nick and Chris Smith will make the way back to South Lake Tahoe from Hollywood with Sean Pawling as part of the Tahoe Arts Project's Tahoe Boys Variety Show.

South Lake Tahoe vacation rental workshop shows wide range of opinions

The City of South Lake Tahoe's second workshop on vacation home rentals (VHRs) drew about 45 people in person Wednesday, while several others participated from home via the internet. As is every discussion about VHRs in the community, passions ran high and differences were apparent.

Sunny and clear weekend in the South Lake Tahoe forecast

As South Lake Tahoe residents and business owners are digging out several feet of snow, Mother Nature is preparing a pretty nice forecast with just a slight chance of snow in then next week. Temperatures will be in single digits overnight, with 30s during the day. With clear skies and ski resorts reporting new snow in feet and not inches, this coming weekend should be a very busy one on the South Shore.

Forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tuesday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 9. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the evening.

More snow days announced for Monday

More schools will be having a snow day on Monday. Zephyr Cove Elementary and Whittell High School just announced their closure. The other Douglas County Schools in the valley will be on a two-hour delayed start.

Up at Tahoe Truckee School District, they are watching snow and road conditions and will make their decision at 4:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District on the South Shore already announced their snow day for January 23.

Incline Village schools will also be closed and all other Washoe County schools are on a two-hour delays.

South Tahoe and Whittell High School girls recognized by Soroptimists

In a tradition dating back decades, the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe recognized local high school students for not only their academic and athletic achievements, but for their work in the community.

Snow Day Monday for South Lake Tahoe schools

Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is closing schools on the South Shore Monday, January 23 due to snow expected Sunday and Monday from the latest storm.

LTUSD crews are performing ongoing snow removal operations, as are the City of South Lake Tahoe, Caltrans and El Dorado County.

As of 2:00 p.m. Sunday, no other school in the Lake Tahoe Basin has announced school closures, including Lake Tahoe Community College.

South Shore buses to shut down for the day due to storm

South Lake Tahoe, Calif., - Tahoe Transportation District is suspending all transit services at noon on Sunday, January 22 due to current and expected weather, and road conditions.

All winter routes serving Heavenly Mountain Resort, routes 50, 53, 23, 20x, 19x and all on-demand response services will be suspended. This includes routes to, and around, the Carson Valley

It is unknown at this time when service will be resumed.

Snow doesn't stop supporters as South Lake Tahoe march draws 500

"This is incredible," said Heddy Kaufer of South Lake Tahoe as she joined an estimated crowd of 500 men, women and children for the Bi-State Women's March on Washington Lake Tahoe.

Like millions of others who marched around the world on January 21, the festive South Lake Tahoe group walked a three mile route from the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe to the Senior Center in support of not only women's rights, but all human rights.

As the long line of walkers were greeted by honks from cars, they chanted "Love, Not Hate, Makes America Great!"

Lake Valley Fire kept busy this week with South Shore and Strawberry fires

Two South Shore fires and one near the Strawberry Lodge kept crews from Lake Valley Fire Department (LVFD) busy this week.

On Tuesday about 11:30 a.m., a home on Alice Lake Road in the Montgomery Estates neighborhood suffered smoke damage after a fire started in the garage. The fire started in the garage near the furnace and hot water heater and flames were contained to the garage.

LVFD was assisted by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue.

Tower of Power heads to South Shore after two band members hit by train

Two musicians with the legendary Bay Area R&B band Tower of Power remain hospitalized after being hit by an Amtrak train in Oakland on January 12. The other band members will still be performing on the South Shore at Harrah's Tahoe February 3 and 4.

The band's longtime drummer, 70-year-old Dave Garibaldi, is listed in "fair condition" but will remain hospitalized for a few more days as he recovers from head and facial injuries.

Train headed back to Lake Tahoe with O.A.R. for summer concert

The second concert heading to the South Shore for the Harvey's Outdoor Concert series has been announced.

As part of their "Play That Song Tour," Train, O.A.R. and Natasha Bedingfield will stop by Lake Tahoe on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will range from $49.50 to $99.50. They are not yet on sale, but when they do they'll be available on ticketmaster.com.

Each summer, top names in the music field head to South Lake Tahoe for the summer outdoor series held behind Harvey's in an amphitheater. More names will be announced in the coming weeks.

SR-89 at Emerald Bay remains closed; Staff clearing up to 30 feet of snow

The four-mile section of SR-89 around Emerald Bay remains closed after recent storms dumped snow on Lake Tahoe. Caltrans maintenance staff have begun the process of clearing the roadway which has up to 30 feet of snow in some locations as well as debris from last week's storm.

Could more concerts be held at the SLT Community Fields in the future?

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Paul Reder of PR Entertainment will make a presentation about the possibility of his company holding one or two concerts a year on the South Lake Tahoe Community play fields.

Reder, the owner of The Loft at Heavenly Village, is also the man behind the Reggae Festival and Electronic Dance Music's (EDM) Bass Camp Festival, both held on the South Shore.

Controversy brewing as City and County reps on Tahoe Conservancy Board resign

Friday's board meeting of the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) was delayed almost two hours due to ice on the road near near Zephyr Cove, causing it to close, and those weren't the only icy conditions on the South Shore that day.

The other ice could be felt during the meeting as conflict of interest, ethics, integrity, suspicious actions and lack of transparency were the theme of the day.

All three items on the agenda Friday were placed there amid a stressed relationship between the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County and Patrick Wright, the Executive Director of the CTC.

Winners announced for Tahoe Chamber's GO Local & Win holiday campaign

Winners of the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce's (TahoeChamber) GO Local & Win campaign held over the holidays in South Lake Tahoe were announced this week.

The GO Local & Win grand prizewinners, announced via Facebook Live, were Stephanie Moynihan winner of $125, Chelsey Shilaikis winner of $250, and Cathy Vogelgesang winner of $500.

South Shore casinos earn $14 million in 2016

It was a winning year for Nevada casinos as they turned a $661.7 million loss in 2015 into a $978.9 million gain in net income during Fiscal year 2016 (FY16).

There are 273 casinos in Nevada that have gross receipts of $1 million or more, and together they had $25 billion in total revenue during the year. Total revenue is the money spent by patrons on gaming, rooms, food, beverage, and other attractions.

Net income/loss is the money retained by casinos after expenses have been paid but prior to deducting federal income taxes and prior to accounting for extraordinary expenses.

Douglas County School Board turns down $100k request from buyer of KMS

During their meeting Tuesday, the Douglas County School District Board of Trustees turned down a request by the buyer of Kingsbury Middle School (KMS) for almost $100,000 to be spent on a environmental impact study of the planned development of the South Shore property.

Helicopters used to survey power line situation in Lake Tahoe

Liberty Utilities is continuing their restoration efforts throughout the north, west and south shores of Lake Tahoe. On Friday, helicopters helped Liberty Utilities take a look at previously inaccessible areas to survey damage to downed power poles and lines.

A helicopter is coming in from Southern California on Saturday and will drop crews and equipment into remote areas to begin restoration that is expected to take several days. Snow cats and snowmobiles will be used to get crews and equipment into Tahoe Pines tomorrow, and this is also expected to take several days.

Crews working round-the-clock to clear South Lake Tahoe roads

It has taken 14 crew members working 12-hour shifts for the last eight days to keep the 259 miles of roads in the City of South Lake Tahoe cleared after 5.13 inches of rain and about four feet of snow hit the south shore.

A single plow of each street has been completed in the City limits, and crews will start working on widening the streets and plowing bike paths Saturday morning.

Power could be out for days for those between Tahoe City and Fallen Leaf Lake

5:30 p.m. update Thursday - The Tahoe Keys and Tahoe Mountain area has just lost power temporarily. The West Shore has been restored from Tahoe City South to Sugar Pine Rd. and HWY89 (735 Customers). South Shore crews are deployed and working on six primary wires serving multiple areas. Restoration times are estimated between 8:00 p.m. tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Tahoe Pines Area (Barker Pass Rd. to Cherry St.) has very heavy damage with multiple poles down that requires helicopter repair. Weather permitting, helicopter repair will start tomorrow.
