Tahoe Regional Young Professionals mixer tonight at Naked Fish

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will host its May mixer at Naked Fish's recently remodeled Lounge, tonight, May 15, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Festivities will consist of a free sake beverage, discounts on the entire menu, networking and several raffle prizes including a $50 Naked Fish gift card.

South Lake Tahoe Spring into Summer Kick-Off Party

The City of South Lake Tahoe’s Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to its inaugural Spring into Summer event on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.

This event is FREE and allows families to tour the recreation swim complex, meet the recreation partners and sign up for programs such as the South Tahoe Adventure Recreation (STAR) Camps and meet camp leaders, swim lessons, and enjoy refreshments. Attendees of the event will receive a FREE one day use pass.

Tahoe Grizzlies Receive Certificate of Recognition from Mayor

The South Tahoe Amateur Hockey Associations Tahoe Grizzlies Bantam Ice Hockey Team received a Certificate of Recognition for winning the State Hockey Championship from the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Mayor Tom Davis at Tuesday's city council meeting.

The Tahoe Grizzlies bantam hockey team is comprised of youth ages 13-15 from the South Tahoe Amateur Hockey Association were the underdogs in the state tournament. They managed to win the California State title April 14 at Sharks Ice in San Jose. It is the first state title ever won by a team from Lake Tahoe.

Lahontan water board OKs long-term South Lake Tahoe tree project to reduce fire danger

Fire fuel reduction plans and forest thinning projects amounting to about 10,000 acres around South Lake Tahoe have been approved by the Lahontan Regional Water Board. Plans will get underway this summer with efforts lasting anywhere between eight to 10 years, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The large-scale project has been in the works since the 2007 Angora fire where 254 homes burned.

Lake Tahoe young professionals group launches scholarship component of its organization

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will launch its ongoing scholarship/continuing educational program by offering one qualified member the opportunity to take part in Leadership Lake Tahoe for the 2013-14 term, valued at $900.

TRYP’s Continuing Education: The mission of TahoeChamber.org Leadership Lake Tahoe is to identify and develop current and future leaders through a comprehensive professional development program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Space Still Available for Thursday’s Tourism Forum

The Annual Tourism Forum is presented in partnership between the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, the South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts and TahoeChamber.

Each year, the organizations strive to bring highly sought after speakers and the most current information on the travel and tourism industry to South Lake Tahoe. This year’s forum will focus on the expectations of the international traveler.

Liberty Utilities offers high school, college scholarships

Liberty Utilities is pleased to announce the establishment of annual academic scholarships for eligible high school and college students within its Lake Tahoe service territory.

The seven schools participating in the new scholarship program are South Tahoe High School, Loyalton High School, Douglas High School (students residing in Alpine County only), Coleville High School, North Tahoe High School and Portola High School, as well as Lake Tahoe Community College.

Tourism is a constantly evolving industry. Each year, the TahoeChamber and the Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Authority strive to keep our business community up to date on developing trends by hosting an Annual Tourism Forum.

This year’s forum is scheduled for April 18, 3:30-6pm in the Cabaret Theater at Harveys. Building off of last year’s presentations on local demographics, the 2013 Trends in Tourism Forum will cover the international guest along with service philosophies and what these culturally sophisticated visitors expect and demand.

San Diego State students forego traditional spring break to serve South Lake Tahoe

Fifteen students from San Diego State University will forego the typical spring break of beaches and relaxation to teach thousands of children in a small mountain community how to save energy and save the environment.

Members of the student organization CALPIRG Energy Service Corps will travel to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., from March 31 through April 5 to spread the word on energy savings.

South Tahoe Chamber to host a business mixer

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce will hold a business mixer on Thursday, March 21. Borges Chiropractic and Tahoe Valley Pharmacy will host the event, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Tahoe Valley Pharmacy center, 2074 Lake Tahoe Blvd. (across from Staples near the “Y”).

The event is open to chamber members as well as the public and is free.

There will be food and prizes, including a pair of sunglasses valued at $160 donated by Lake Tahoe Eye Care. Other sponsors for donations include Tahoe Valley Pharmacy, Borges Chiropractic and Ross Groelz, DDS.

Tahoe Chamber Expo to feature at least 97 businesses

The post St. Patty’s Day themed mixer (i.e. wear green) at the recently opened On the Rocks Bar & Grill (located in Round Hill Shopping Center behind Anytime Fitness) will also include hearty appetizers and a free beverage. Admission is complimentary for TRYP members and $5 for non-members.

Father and two sons injured when SUV crashes into South Lake Tahoe Denny's

A South Lake Tahoe father and two sons were injured Thursday morning after the SUV they were in crashed Denny's restaurant on Al Tahoe Boulevard, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department reports.

Todd Jackson, 28, suffered moderate injuries in the 8:50 a.m. accident after being extricated from the 2002 Dodge Durango by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. He was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Jackson's two sons, 11 and 8-years-old, were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries.
