SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Tahoe Youth & Family Services (TYFS) is excited to announce their inaugural 5k Fun Run during Carson Valley Days on Saturday, June 9 starting at 8:00 a.m. The Partnership of Community Resources turned over the reins of the annual fun run to TYFS for mentoring programs. This is an opportunity for serious runners, walkers, joggers and families alike to “Run the Parade” route to help kick off the Carson Valley Days Parade. Groups, businesses, clubs and schools are encouraged to participate as a team.
Lake Tahoe Humane Society reorganizes and adds transparency

Michael Dalton will be the new president and is joined by VP of Governance and Compliance Sandra DeLeon, VP of Operations Chantale Hansen, Mariel Berei, secretary and Elizabeth Naylor, treasurer.
Lorna Lefler, Sue Pritchett, and Kim Stephenson, the board who tried to hold things together after the firing of their former executive director, will be stepping down effective immediately.

Opinion: May take years to recover from negative national VHR news

We, as property managers and owners, have been requesting support from the Chamber of Commerce, LTVA, and the Lodging Association in helping us fight the selfish attitudes of some locals regarding their entitlement to Lake Tahoe without visitors to their neighborhoods.

Volunteer at state park and get free camping

There will a volunteer event at Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park in Amador County on Thursday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Help them remove invasive plants and give native plants an opportunity to thrive.
Free tent camping is available for registered volunteers Wednesday night and a guided walk offered Thursday afternoon! Teens ages 14 and up are welcome with a legal guardian.

Tahoe Fund expands advisory board

Marsolais and Marchetta add federal and regional agency representation to the council that already includes Patrick Wright, Executive Director of the California Tahoe Conservancy and Jim Lawrence, Deputy Director of Nevada’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Graduation for 13 new members of Douglas County Search and Rescue

Dauntless Air out of Appleton, Minnesota brought two Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss planes to town at the request of the United States Forest Service (USFS) and put on a demonstration for South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, CalFire and the USFS from both Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe National Forest.
Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra fundraiser Saturday: Find out where donations go

What many don't know is where those donations go. There was question recently in the community about donations, so the club wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.
The club recently created a diagram to better explain where each penny goes as they don't have must left over funds after they issue scholarships, grants and other forms of financial support.

Maloff has given the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $500,000 to get started on a new building, but she won't be stopping there.
Changes ahead for South Shore bus services

What isn't certain is how those changes will look, where extra funding can come from, or if services will have to be cut.
During Friday's Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) board meeting, options to keep a sustainable transit system in place for Lake Tahoe were discussed. Buses continue to operate at a loss and that cannot continue, according to the TTD staff.

I found that most employees cared a lot about their community and wanted to be given the chance to do the best job possible for all residents of South Lake Tahoe. They take their public employment seriously, and they just need the support and help from management and elected City officials. They are committed to the public service.

A huge thank you to all those that came out and supported South Lake Tahoe Rotary’s recent fundraiser at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Kevin Sommerfeld, Kelly Higgins and the whole support crew at the golf course were great hosts at their newly renovated clubhouse.
The cast of “Divorce Southern Style” put on 6 great performances and dedicated many hours to this very funny play. The show and set were a success because of their help in creating and attaining set props and pieces.

The evening's festivities start with a 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. cocktail party and social time, moving to a seated dinner from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and dancing all night with Trey Stone until 10:30 p.m.

The evening’s meal was lovingly prepared and served by the Filipino Community members for their annual Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment sponsorship. This fantastic group served up teriyaki chicken and vegetables, chicken adobo, steamed rice, coleslaw topped off with delicious desserts to the 93 attending dinner guests. Needless to say, there were no ‘leftovers’ at the end of the meal.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/05/2018 - 6:18pmIf you had walked onto the LTCC campus on Tuesday, April 3, you would have never guessed that there were 325 6th grade youth and 220 agency and volunteer workers throughout the corridors, all learning information on how and why to keep themselves safe from drugs. “Choices, what are yours?” was the theme of our efforts in keeping our youth drug free. With the country’s attitudes and norms about drug use changing, times are even more difficult for our kids.

Tahoe Women's Community Fund announces winners of $68,000 in grants

During their 2018 grant cycle, over 25 organizations applied for grants and 13 of them are being supported by TWCF and will be honored during their Grants Gala
on Wednesday, May 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe.

Icy Lake Tahoe greats all jumping in for the Polar Plunge
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/18/2018 - 6:18pmLAKE TAHOE - It was March Madness on the South Shore today as about 200 people braved the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe, all in the spirit of raising money for Special Olympics.
The annual Polar Plunge was at Zephyr Cove Resort and the water was about 48 degrees when the crowds jumped in.
"Today's turnout was great!" said Harry Mong, Senior Director of Programs and Partnership for Special Olympics Northern Nevada. "$186,000 was raised and it goes to support our sports programs. There are 300 competitions in 11 different sports, and it is all free for the competitors."
South Lake Tahoe Warm Room to close on Easter Sunday

They opened on Christmas Eve inside the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church as they had trouble securing a place for the winter.
South Lake Brewing celebrates beer and community

This week, South Lake Brewing Company canned 4,800 cans of three types of beer, their already famous Fog Nozzle and Angora IPA, along with their Pillow Line Pale Ale. This was their second canning since opening in May, 2017, and it was also their biggest.
South Tahoe Middle School: What's your 17?

Since school officials did not want students walking off campus they had a school wide activity called, "What's Your 17?" Students who wanted to participate in the walkout could by going to the school's multi-purpose room or Timberwolf Plaza.

22 disabled veterans heading to Lake Tahoe for special week at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/11/2018 - 12:06pmTwenty-two injured veterans will arrive at the Reno-Tahoe airport Sunday evening and head to Squaw Valley / Alpine Meadows for 3rd annual Military to the Mountains program through March 17, 2018.
Eight of the veterans are residents of the Reno/Sparks area and will join the arrival celebration at 7:45 p.m. at the airport near the ski statue.
The week long adaptive ski week is sponsored by High Fives Foundation, Adaptive Training Foundation, City of Reno, Achieve Tahoe and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.

New after school theater club at South Tahoe Middle School

ACT ONE is meant to help fill a void for middle school-aged student’s hunger for creative expression, given the absence of drama and other arts programming available to students at a critical developmental age.
