Angel of Tahoe strikes again: Large donation headed to Boys & Girls Club

Lisa Maloff, whose name is synonymous with gracious donations to the South Lake Tahoe community, has once again thrown her financial support behind a local need.

Maloff has given the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $500,000 to get started on a new building, but she won't be stopping there.

Known as the "Angel of Tahoe," Maloff has donated approximately $35 million to the community over the last four years, including funds for a new building at Barton Hospital, a new university center at Lake Tahoe Community College, police dogs, fire boats, funds to Tahoe Youth and Family Services and other local endeavors.

She has now brought further joy to our community with a large donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) building fund. The Club currently leases half of the old Al Tahoe school building, but it has long been a dream of the Club to have their own building. Lisa is helping the Club take a step closer to that dream becoming a reality.

In 2017, Lisa gave BGCLT funds to purchase vehicles after one of theirs was totaled. She also threw a summer party for them.

“I have been on the Board since the Club was founded and from day one we have wanted the Club to have a building of its own," said Jeff Tillman, former BGCLT president and current board member. "Thanks to Lisa, nearly three decades later, we are going to make that vision a reality.”

“Lisa has already done so much for our community," said BGCLT Executive Director Jude Wood. "The Club feels incredibly blessed to be included in her amazing generosity."

The Club is currently in negotiations to secure the perfect location for their new Clubhouse and will be working with the El Dorado Community Foundation to raise additional funding. In the meantime, the Club will continue to operate out of Al Tahoe and is grateful for the ongoing support that it receives from Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD). The Club also hopes to have a space in the City’s new Recreation Center, as was promised to voters in the 2016 Measure P. The Club is currently on a waitlist for new members and looks forward to the day when it can serve more children across a number of fabulous facilities.
