South Tahoe boys basketball team heads to state tournament as #2 seed from the north

It was a total of eight points that separated the winner from the loser in the three games South Tahoe High played in the Northern Nevada Division 1-A basketball tournament this week.

On Thursday, the Vikings beat Spring Creek 69-66 in the quarterfinals.

On Friday, the Vikings beat Lowry 44-41 in the semifinals.

In Saturday's final game, South Tahoe was matched against Elko. It was another nail biter as Junior Noah Jackson attempted a three-point shot just as time ran out. It hit the rim, but didn't drop in.

South Tahoe lost to Elko, 45-43. It was Elko's fifth straight northern title.

The Vikings travel back to Reno on February 26 for a Friday night match-up against the number one seed from the south at 4:40 p.m. at Reno High. Their opponent will be decided after the game between Clark and Desert Pines is played. Their game time is 6:20 p.m.

The winner of the next Viking game goes to the final game on Saturday, February 27 at 8:10 p.m. at Lawler Events Center.
