South Lake Tahoe’s regional adult education network, ADVANCE, will debut a Culinary Boot Camp to help this fall, rolling out its first-ever workplace skills program to align with the beginning of the winter hiring season.

Social media was abuzz this week as South Tahoe High came is as the seventh most beautiful high school campus in the State of California according to the Texas based national driver's education company, Aceable.

My wife Rae and I honeymooned in South Tahoe and decided not to leave. We have fallen in love with this community and have taken active roles in many different local organizations. I work for Tahoe Youth & Family Services, one of the oldest local non-profit organizations in the region serving at-risk and underprivileged youth in South Lake Tahoe.

When students make their way through the doors of classrooms in Lake Tahoe Unified School District on Monday, 22 new certified staff members will be there to greet them.

It was an overflowing crowd at the Tahoe Beach Retreat on Wednesday evening at the housing forum hosted by the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals. A well informed panel of experts in the field of affordable housing answered a slew of questions from both the in-house crowd, and those able to ask from home via a live-stream telecast.

What was evident after two hours of discussion is that there is no one single answer to the issue of affordable housing and it will take much more than a wave of a magic wand to bring about a solution.

Brad Deeds has been hired as the new Dean of Workforce Development and Instruction at Lake Tahoe Community College where he will manage the college’s various Career and Technical Education programs. Deeds will be over the Fire Academy, Culinary Arts, Commercial Music, Allied Health, the new Adult Education program, and other vocationally-focused departments on campus. He will also oversee workforce development and select instructional programs at LTCC.

The LTCC Board of Trustees gave approval for the hiring at their meeting on Tuesday night.

After a 3 1/2 year battle with brain cancer, JoJo Conroy passed away peacefully in her garden on Saturday July 9th. She would have been 66 on July 24th. During her 43 years as a resident of South Lake Tahoe she touched many lives in a variety of capacities. She spent her summers as a banquet waitress at Edgewood Golf Course and her winters overseeing the operation of Rainbow Mountain Ski Shop. But it was her commitment to her community and friends where she truly shined.

Auditions will be held for Missoula Children's Theatre production of Pinocchio on Monday, July 11 at South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room from 10:00 to 12:00. Those auditioning should arrive at 10:00 and plan to stay for the full two hours. Auditions are free and if cast there is a $50 per child fee to participate in this week long theater experience. A limited number of scholarships are available by calling Peggy Blowney at 530 542-3632.

The commumity is invited to the Lake Tahoe Community College's Class of 2016 commencement on Friday, June 24 at South Tahoe Middle Schoolat 6:00 p.m. 174 students are graduating, 40 with honors, eight with highest honores, 36 with departmental certificates and 61 with a transfer degree that guarantees them a seat in a California State University this fall.

The theme of graduation this year is based on a William Arthur Ward quote: "If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it."

The smash-hit Broadway musical Cabaret hits the Duke Theatre stage at Lake Tahoe Community College with seven performances June 10-19, 2016.

The college's Theatre Arts Department presents the Tony Award-winning musical with with music and lyrics by the Broadway powerhouse team of John Kander and Fred Ebb.

Lake Tahoe Summer Kick Off Car and Bike Show at the Heavenly Village

A community group effort led by the Women of the Moose (WOTM) Chapter 408 in South Lake Tahoe is helping the homeless youth of the community

WOTM help out with the kids who are part of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District's McKinney Vento program. LTUSD receives an annual allocation of about $1,000 to purchase school supplies and help with bus transportation for its approximately 250 homeless students.

It once housed The Shiek, a boat named in honor of Rudolf Valentino, friend and frequent guest to the Pope Estate in South Lake Tahoe. The Shiek was the biggest and fastest boat of its time on Lake Tahoe.

In the late 1800's it housed the boats of William Tevis who owned the 75 acre sprawling estate along the South Shore.

El Dorado Arts Council has inaugurated a Poet Laureate program for El Dorado County. This post, officially appointed by a conferring institution, is bestowed on a noted poet to honor his or her body of work and to celebrate poetry as an art form.

Taylor Graham was chosen by a panel of literary experts because of the caliber of her work, her engagement with poets and writers in the community, and the critical acclaim her work has garnered.

South Lake Tahoe will celebrate Earth Day with a full day of education, live music, arts and crafts and with local vendors and food at Bijou Community Park on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Recognize and celebrate our region’s unique beauty while being educated about local environmental issues. The public is invited to the free event where they will learn about ways to counteract global climate change through recycling and composting, alternative energy, water conservation, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint.

The community is warmly invited to Lake Tahoe Community College on Thursday, April 14 to enjoy two new art exhibits celebrating the talents of LTCC’s faculty, staff, and students. Free artist receptions will be held simultaneously from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering a chance to meet the artists whose work will be on display and enjoy light refreshments.

As the number of craft breweries continues to rise throughout the country, so does the number of breweries that are choosing to host live music. No band knows this better than the one time Nashville based indie folk-rock duo You Knew Me When. After uprooting from their Nashville home and full-time jobs in June of 2012 the husband and wife indie folk-rock duo set plans to tour the nation for a full year…however, they never stopped.

"From the Lens of Eleanor Preger," is an exhibition at Sierra Nevada College that includes images from Burning Man 2011-15, and the photographer will talk about her art during the closing reception for the show on April 5. Crimson Rose, Burning Man co-founder, and Maria Partridge, Artist Advocate for the Burning Man Foundation, are both expected to make comments during the evening.

Eleanor Preger's talk will take place in the Ron and Maureen Ashley Community Gallery at the Holman Arts & Media Center on campus from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Can you imagine dying 4,000 eggs for your family's Easter egg hunt? Probably not as many of us may have had enough after two dozen, but that is exactly what local inmates are tasked with.

Each year, the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club hosts a community egg hunt at Lake Tahoe Community College, and for the last ten years the inmates at the El Dorado County Jail have been coloring the hard boiled eggs for the event.

Normally the kitchen crew at the jail both boils the eggs and colors them, but due to a staffing shortage at the jail they could only color them.

South Tahoe High's Performing Arts Department is presenting Neil Simon's RUMORS, a fast paced comic farce set in the home of Charlie and Myra Brock in the late 1980’s.

The guests have arrived for the 10th wedding anniversary of the couple but they are met with mayhem. Charlie, the Deputy Mayor of New York, has shot himself and his wife, Myra, is missing. Although Charley’s injury is minor, misunderstandings and rumors abound in this fast paced sophisticated farce.

For the past few weeks, "celebrities" from South Lake Tahoe have been practicing with their professional partners, all in a quest to win the coveted mirror ball trophy in the Tahoe Arts Project's 4th annual Dancing with the Tahoe Stars

All of the rehearsing, and nursing aches and pains, have come down to this, the final event which will be held at MontBleu Resort on Saturday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m.
