SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Each year Azul Latin Kitchen selects a local nonprofit to be the recipient of their fundraising for the year. In 2018, Live Violence Free (LVF) was the recipient of that generosity and today were presented a check for $16,917.50 at a ceremony at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The popular restaurant in the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe had Tahoe Youth & Family Services as their nonprofit of choice last year and Tahoe Arts Project will get the funds in 2019.

Applications for $84,000 in grants from the Tahoe Women's Community Fund are now available and will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019. The Angel of Tahoe Lisa Maloff joined others in the group to have such a generous amount to give away this year.

Any non-profit organization that serves the South Shore of Lake Tahoe is welcome to apply to one of the "areas of need" described below. Organizations that received a grant in 2018 from TWCF, are ineligible to apply. Each organization may submit only one application.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Frank A. Rush, Jr. is now officially the city manager for South Lake Tahoe.

For the past 17 years Rush has been the city manager for the city of Emerald Isle in North Carolina. He and his wife of 20 years, Suzanne, moved to the South Shore with their two teenage sons, Jacob and Matthew.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to the Jean and Stephen Myers Endowment at the El Dorado Community Foundation, the South Lake Tahoe Library has been able to expand their operations to six-days-a-week.

On Monday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m. the community is invited to the library to celebrate with refreshments and a Monday Maker activity.

Multi-talented Steven Van Zandt brings his band, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, to the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe on Saturday Dec. 8. In addition to a high-energy rock ‘n soul concert, the show is part of Van Zandt’s “Soulfire TeachRock Teacher Appreciation Tour” and offers a free seminar and the show to area teachers.

“Little” Steven Van Zandt, a founding member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, brings his high-energy rock & soul band to Tahoe for the first time ever.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A weekend-long celebration of the holidays will be at the historic Valhalla Grand Hall and Boathouse Theater November 16-18, 2018.

The annual Valhalla Holiday Faire will feature a variety of local and regional arts and crafts vendors, a Grand Hall decked out in traditional holiday style, refreshments from their bar, photos with Santa and the Valhalla raffle and holiday cheer to kick off the season in true Tahoe style.

Twenty-six local nonprofits were awarded $78,974 Thursday in donations from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and American Century Championship thanks to funds raised during the 2018 celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

“The continued support from our partners American Century Investments and NBC Sports means so much to this community,” said Carol Chaplin, president and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “These contributions benefit so many in the South Shore a long time after the tournament ends.”

Rehearsals will begin in February, and the musical production will be held in May. The performers will have rehearsals immediately after school at STMS, 2 - 3 days per week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One of the original rock operas, Jesus Christ Superstar, will hit the stage at Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theater October 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 at 7:30 p.m. and October 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Dance of Hope, a cultural music and dance-touring program from Uganda, has been in South Shore schools all week, connecting youth to the sounds of the world with passionate rhythms, sensational sounds, and exhilarating and colorful choreography.

They also stopped by Marcia Sarosik's dance studio in South Lake Tahoe to work with middle school students who will be accompanying them on the MontBleu stage Friday night during Tahoe Art's Project Dance of Hope performance.

Tahoe Arts Project is bringing a week full of dance and music to South Lake Tahoe and Zephyr Cove students with Dance of Hope during the week of October 1-5, wrapping up with an evening performance at MontBleu Resort on Friday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m.

Engaging from the actor's first entrance to the moment the stage lights went dark, Pam Taylor & Briana Biller’s performances in "‘Night, Mother" are raw, are tender, and shatteringly heart wrenching. The two actresses expertly weave the tragic story into such simple and relatable conversation, yet take the audience on an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you breathless. Director Rich Sargent has knocked it out of the park with this production.

Philip Ritger has been selected as the Public Works Director effective October 8, 2018. Philip has served as the Genoa Town Manager for the past five years and brings a wealth of management and leadership experience to Douglas County.

As the Genoa Town Manager, Philip was responsible for the financial health of the town. He managed all public works, facility maintenance, professional contracts and related activities necessary to provide the residents with a high level of service in a fiscally responsible manner.

Sierra Sweethearts will bring bluegrass music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, August 23.

Sierra Sweethearts are Northern Nevada’s premier all woman ensemble. The band features sparkling vocal harmonies and sizzling instrumentals.

Winners of the 2017 “Forte Award for Northern Nevada’s Best Bluegrass/Americana Band", the Sweethearts serve up an exciting mix of bluegrass, cowboy, swing and country classics, spiced with generous amounts of humor.

Mrs. Lisa Maloff, the Angel of Tahoe, has offered a generous donation for STEAM and Garden Education for Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD). In the works since April, the LTUSD Board of Trustees today heard plans from two parents who have been working on the donation and ideas for implementation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) and gardening education in all South Lake Tahoe schools.

Music, the beach, a glass of your favorite beverage and the sunset.....all the backdrop for the annual Music on the Beach for Tahoe Art's Project on Thursday, August 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Trey Stone, Niall McGuiness and George Tavoularis will bring their magical sounds to the shore behind Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge.

Funds raised by a benefit raffle will be used to support performing arts in local schools and the community. Tickets are available for a donation of $10. Bring low-back beach chairs, food, beverage and blankets.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Now in its third year, Will’s Kids for the Arts is a FREE art fair for children on the South Shore, featuring arts and crafts booths and a performance by Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. Will’s Kids will take place on Friday, August 3rd W:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Valhalla Tahoe Estate. The performance begins at noon.

In a return engagement, Sacramento area band, Todd Morgan and the Emblems, will bring 50s, 60s and Rockabilly style music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 pm, Thursday, July 26.

Todd Morgan and the Emblems is a young four-piece band, led by singer-songwriter and musician Todd Morgan. The band’s music consists of original pop and rock music, along with covers of 50s and 60s Rock-n-Roll and up to present day pop and rock songs. The band has recorded 3 albums.
