SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Local female business owner, Karly Matzen of The Tides Project, sells her crafts online and trade shows throughout the Tahoe basin. You make have seen The Tides Project booth at the Made In Tahoe festival or Live at Lakeview this summer. In return, 10% of her sales goes back to funding art programs. Her vision is to bring supplies to the community in order to support a positive outlet for youth through the Arts.

New Executive Chef for Edgewood Tahoe's three lakefront restaurants

There is a new chef at the helm of Edgewood Tahoe's three restaurants after the retirement of Frank Stagnaro, the resort’s executive chef for over 25 years.

Executive Chef Charles Wilson was amazed at the view from the resort that sits on the shore of Lake Tahoe.

“One of the reasons I’m here is this property,” Wilson said. “Walking into the Great Room and looking out the windows was the moment. The culinary team’s job is to match the ambiance of the resort, and this setting is truly spectacular.”

A former South Lake Tahoe resident visiting family for the holidays on the South Shore was on his way home to La Mesa, California when he and girlfriend were involved in a three-car head-on collision south of Kramer's Crossing on Highway 395 near Victorville on December 28, 2017.

Chris "Coco" Cocores, 26, was in a Toyota Corolla driven by his girlfriend, 21-year-old Cecilia Casares, when the car crossed over a solid yellow line to pass a slower vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. They collided with two vehicles heading northbound.

"Angel of Tahoe" Lisa Maloff celebrates Christmas with local youth

Christmas was made very special for 100 South Lake Tahoe children on Saturday, December 16, 2017 when philanthropist Lisa Maloff joined Tahoe Youth and Family Services (TYFS) in ringing in the holidays with a special celebration that won’t soon be forgotten.

Earlier this month, Mrs. Maloff made a generous donation of $75,000 to the agency that serves the youth and families South Lake Tahoe, Douglas County and Alpine County. Mrs. Maloff asked TYFS to hold a very special Christmas party so she could spread some holiday cheer and create magical memories for our local children.

The spirit of Christmas comes to life as the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and the Pat Esters Gospel Choir blend Christmas favorites, jazz, and soul - with a few surprises mixed in – for three performances of feel good, ‘get ready for the holidays’ music and song. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform as well.

Vail Resorts celebrates local community with Epic Promise awards

EpicPromise grants and donations were given away on Wednesday to dozens of non-profits who serve the communities around both Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood.

Golden Bear Events is hosting their annual Winter Bazaar at the American Legion at 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., holiday shoppers can find See's Candies, handmade jewelry, home decor, books from local authors, photography, treats from Don's Cakes by the Lake, Girl Scout Troop #123 will be selling handmade crafts, Beauty Control, hair accessories, fiber arts, clothing and more, plus the Cheer Team will be gift wrapping for a donation.

South Shore non-profits receive $51,000 from American Century Championship

American Century Championship continues to impact the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, even months after the annual tournament is over. Since its inception in 1990, the tournament has donated more than $4.5 million to local and national non-profits.

On Thursday, the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and American Century Investments gave 30 local organizations checks in the amount of $500 to $5,000 to help them serve the community.

Fiber Art Fridays to be held at South Lake Tahoe Library

The South Lake Tahoe Library will be starting a new fiber art group that will meet on the first Friday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The group is open to those who enjoy knitting, crocheting, embroidery, hand sewing and other fiber arts. Learn some new tricks, share projects, ideas, and stories with others. Bring your current project or start a new one.

This is free and all skill levels are welcome. Come and leave as needed.

LTCC lecture to feature South Lake Tahoe artist

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Local artist Malcolm Tibbetts will be giving a lecture to members of the public as part of the Lake Tahoe Community College Art Club's Visiting Artist Series on Friday, November 3 at 5:30 p.m. in the school's room F101.

Tibbetts primarily works with wood and has been featured during the Tahoe Art League's annual Studio Tour. He has donated several large sculptures to LTCC that can be found around campus.

South Tahoe High student photography on display at City Hall

Award winning photography by South Tahoe High School (STHS) students is now on display at the Lake Tahoe Airport's art gallery.

Some of the photographers were on hand a reception hosted by the City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Arts Alliance on Monday, the second since the gallery was opened in June of this year. Work of local artists will hang on the walls at the entrance of City Hall at the airport throughout the year and will be rotated quarterly.

The Venerable Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim, a Tibetan Buddhist monk of the Gelug order, will be in South Lake Tahoe as part of The Loft's speaker series on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Geshe-la trained in philosophy and sacred art at Gaden Shartse Monastic University in Southern India and for many years toured the world as sand mandala master for the Sacred Arts of Tibet tours. He currently lives in Auburn, Calif.

Museum in Carson City to host community birthday bash for Glenn Lucky

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Glenn Lucky turn 65 this month, and the Nevada State Museum in Carson City is planning a big birthday party in his honor on September 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dema Guinn Concourse of the museum at 600 N. Carson Street.

Lucky was born on Sept. 27, 1952 in Coronado, Calif. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was just one.

He and his family moved to the South Shore when Glenn was 3-year-old.

LTCC vision: To be California's premier destination community college

As the world changes around South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is evolving to meet the new demands of education and the student body. As there is a decline in community college enrollment across the country, LTCC is being creative in recruitment of students to the campus and investing in not only the environment, but in removing barriers many have in getting a secondary education.

Will’s Kids event brings art to 300 South Shore youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a beautiful day for the arts as the second annual “Will’s Kids” art fair took place at Valhalla Tahoe on Friday, August 4th. The event drew three hundred local youth and their families to see a free performance of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. The Young Shakespeare Program takes the mainstage Shakespeare performance from the annual Sand Harbor festival and condenses it to a one hour version accessible for children. This year was the slapstick romantic comedy, Love’s Labour’s Lost.

Tahoe Arts Project to hold annual Music on the Beach

Paul Francis D’Anneo

Surrounded by family at his home in Carson City, Paul Francis D'Anneo passed from this life to the next July 20, 2017. Paul was born in Oakland, CA on November 24, 1933 to Arnaldo and Ruth (Dobbins) D'Anneo. He married Barbara Moore in Berkeley, CA. Having attended Cal Poly, he worked as an electronics engineer.

New deputy for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office

During a ceremony on July 24 the Douglas County Sheriff's Office welcomed a new deputy, Kylie Shepherd.

In front of family and friends, Deputy Shepherd was administered her oath of office.

She grew up in Lyon County, Nevada and later attended Western Nevada College and obtained an Associate of Arts and an Associates of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Deputy Shepherd will start her service with the department in the Jail Division.

Boys Scouts host 4th annual Car and Truck Show in Carson City

In their 77th year of providing scouting opportunities to boys in the Carson City and Carson Valley area, Boy Scout Troop 33 is hosting their 4th annual Send A Scout to Camp Car and Truck Show on Saturday, August 12 at Fuji Park in Carson City from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Participants can either pre-register or sign up the day of the event. Cost is $40. Each participant will get a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Shakespeare for the younger set: Will's Kids, returns to South Lake Tahoe

Summer is not all beach and playtime for Lake Tahoe area kids, its also time to hang out with Shakespeare. For the second consecutive year, Will's Kids will take place at Valhalla inside Tallac Historic Site on Friday, August 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

New deputy sworn in for Douglas County Sheriff's Office

MINDEN, Nevada – Spencer McLaughlin has been sworn in as a new deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Surrounded by family and friends, McLaughlin joined the department and started a new career in civilian law enforcement. Deputy McLaughlin was a military police officer for five years, spending most of his time on the base SWAT team in Japan and at Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, California.

Monique DeHaviland and the Mo’z Motley Blues Band have been performing originals and 5 decades of cover music with blues infected rock, pop, soul, and country repertoire geared to make audiences move from the minute the music begins.

5th annual Farmers' Market held for Sierra House students

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - The 5th annual Sierra House Farmers' Market was held during school on Wednesday, giving the students a hands-on demonstration on how whole and healthy food can be produced, prepared and enjoyed together.

LTUSD celebrates 20 retirees with 551 combined years of service

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District is losing a lot of experience as 20 of their employees are retiring after a combined 551 years of collective service in education. The four retiring food service employees alone had 107 years of working with LTUSD.

LTCC hires Russi Egan as new VP of Administrative Services

During a special meeting of the Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees on Thursday, Russi Egan was hired as the college's new Vice President of Administrative Services.

Egan is currently the Vice President of Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer at Palo Verde College in Blythe, Calif. She will begin her new job at LTCC on July 1.

The position has been vacant since Jeff DeFranco became the school's new Superintendent/President in January, 2017.

New principal selected for South Tahoe High

Carline Sinkler has been selected as the new principal of South Tahoe High School and the community is invited to meet her at the LTUSD District Office on Tuesday, May 23 at 5:00 p.m.

Sinkler comes from the San Francisco Unified School District where she has served as the principal of Herbert Hoover Middle School since 2013.

She was selected by the interview committee with "overwhelming enthusiasm" according to Shannon Chandler, the district's public information officer.

LTUSD has WASC plans and updates for South Tahoe High on website

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) didn't give South Tahoe High and the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) the results expected after a WASC accreditation team visited South Lake Tahoe in the Spring of 2016.

Instead of an expected six-year term they received a two-year accreditation which goes through June of 2018. On March 19 and 20 of that year a team of educators will return to the campus and evaluate recommended changes.

Valhalla Renaissance Faire returns to South Lake Tahoe

After an absence in 2016 due to construction on the campgrounds at Camp Richardson, the 25th anniversary of the Valhalla Renaissance Faire returns to the South Shore for one weekend, June 10-11, 2017.

A weekend of Olde England style merriment and celebration will take place through seven acres of woods in the historic Camp Richardson, taking people back to Elizabethan times, complete with the "Queen" herself.

Lake Tahoe Brewfest to raise funds for Boys and Girls Club

The inaugural Lake Tahoe Brewfest is coming to the South Shore on Saturday, June 10 from noon to 5:00 p.m., and will be the first major event to bring together all of the breweries from the Lake Tahoe area’s emerging beer scene.

The Swiss Chalet Center at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sierra Boulevard will be the scene for the family-friendly event which will feature local arts and crafts, food, live music, games and more.

Tahoe Arts Project Spaghetti Night at Bert's

Tahoe Arts Project is inviting the community to attend their Bert's Spaghetti Night on May 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The cost is just $10 per person and includes spaghetti, Caesar salad, garlic bread, soda and coffee. There will also be a bake sale and wine available for a donation.

Tickets are available for purchase at Session's Salon at 3320 Sandy Way in South Lake Tahoe, at Bert's Cafe prior to the event (1146 Emerald Bay Rd in SLT) or by calling Tahoe Arts Project at 530.542.3632.

There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door.
