Law Enforcement Appreciation Day to be held in South Lake Tahoe

An appreciation of all of the law enforcement agencies that are assigned to protect the South Shore of the Lake Tahoe Basin will be the focus of Law Enforcement Day at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe on Thurday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m.

The public is invited to show support of the the men and women of the California Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, El Dorado County Probation, El Dorado County Sheriff including STAR and SAR, the FBI (South Lake Tahoe Division), SLEDNET, South Lake Tahoe Police Department and USFS Law Enforcement.

Valhalla wraps up summer season with Celtic and Gospel music

Live at Lakeview wraps up summer with final two concerts

The lakeside summer concert series in South Lake Tahoe, Live and Lakeview, celebrates their 50th show on Thursday, August 18 with two bands starting at 4:30 p.m.

This free concert is presented by On Course Events and the City of South Lake Tahoe.

Funk band Swamp Zen gets the party started from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and they'll be followed by Gypsy Rock band Diego's Umbrella who take the stage from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

President Obama headed to South Lake Tahoe

The annual Lake Tahoe Summit has welcomed Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Governors, Senators and other dignitaries from the world of environmental protection, and 2016 will be no different.

Today, the White House announced that President Barack Obama will head to South Lake Tahoe on Aug. 31 to speak about his commitment to protecting the environment and addressing climate change at the summit which will be held at Harvey's Outdoor Arena this year.

Letter to the Editor: City’s 4th of July Parade a huge success

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted its first annual 4th of July parade on Monday, July 4, 2016. There were a total of 78 vehicles and approximately 200 people on foot either walking, biking, or dancing. American Legion Post 795 served as the parade marshals.

The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to say "Thank You" to all the parade participants, businesses and volunteers for making the 4th of July parade a fantastic community event!

Lionel Ritchie added to Harvey's Outdoor Concert series

The singer behind hits "All Night Long" and "Say You, Say Me" will be performing on stage during the 2016 Summer Concert Series at Harvey's Outdoor Arena.

Lionel Ritchie was announced as the latest artist to join the long summer line-up. He'll be making a stop in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, August 13 at 8:00 p.m. Presale tickets go on sale June 8, with regular sales starting June 10 at ticketmaster.com.

Woman rescued from cliffs above Emerald Bay

An Incline Village woman was rescued from the cliffs above Vikingsholm in Emerald Bay on Thursday after she slipped while climbing down the mountain.

Jane Rylander had been climbing in the steep cliff bands from Vikingsholm parking lot down towards the main castle. She slipped and slid down the embankment becoming stuck on the cliff band. She was not injured but could not climb up or down and was in the need of rescue.

New art gallery opening in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe has a new gallery, the Benko Art Gallery, and they'll be celebrating their grand opening on Sunday, April 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with a celebration that will include beverages, hors d’oeuvres and live music.

Benko is located in the new Highland Village, located where the Highland Inn was once located at 3979 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Tim McGraw and Widespread Panic added to Outdoor Arena lineup

The lineup at the Harvey's Outdoor Arena increased by two today with the addition of Tim McGraw and Widespread Panic at the popular South Lake Tahoe venue.

Harveys adds Steve Miller Band and Slightly Stoopid to summer lineup

The Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys just added two more concerts to their summer lineup.

Slighty Stoopid is coming on Saturday, July 2 as a part of their Return of the Red Eye Summer 2016 Tour. Special supporting guests include SOJA, as well as Zion I, The Grouch and Eligh. The general admission tickets start at $37.50 each.

Rock icon Glenn Frey of the Eagles dies at age 67

Two musicians who performed in South Lake Tahoe over the years have died.

Glenn Frey, the guitarist and sometime singer for the legendary 1970s band The Eagles, died Monday at age 67. The Eagles last performed in South Lake Tahoe during a two-day concert at Harvey's Outdoor Arena in 2014.

According to news reports, Frey had surgery for intestinal problems in November.

South Lake Tahoe's Beth Tschantre tries out for American Idol

It's not every day a local girl tries out for the musical talent show, American Idol, but Beth Tschantre has done just that.

The 25-year-old from South Lake Tahoe will make her American Idol debut on Thursday night's show when the San Francisco auditions are highlighted. The show is on FOX from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tschantre can't say much about what happens as she's bound by a confidentiality agreement, but she can say her segment starts tonight and goes into next week.

Chains controls around Lake Tahoe as storm passes through

3:00 p.m. update 1/5/16: Well, the storm had another surge and chain controls are back up over Echo from three miles east of Kyburz to Meyers and on 80 from one mile east of Baxter to the Donner Lake interchange.

220 p.m. update 1/5/16: Chain controls over Echo Summit (Hwy 50) and Donner Pass (I80) have been lifted.

Chain controls have been up through the Sierra Nevada for most of the day as snows passes over the region.

'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer' holiday song has roots in Lake Tahoe

The man behind the Christmas song, "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer," either the most loved or most loathed of the season and certainly one of its most memorable, has no problems being a one-hit wonder and says the song has been both "my blessing and my albatross."

Randy Brooks, 67, a song writer and son of a church organist, told Reuters Wednesday he may not have left his mark on pop culture had it not been for car trouble in Lake Tahoe.

City of South Lake Tahoe celebrates first 50 years

"South Lake Tahoe, you should be proud of yourself."

Those words, said by South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Brian Williams, were echoed throughout the evening as the City of South Lake Tahoe celebrated its first 50 years with a golden anniversary gala Saturday night.

Almost 300 people were at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel to share memories of the past, review of the present, and a look towards the future of a city that was formed because many of the residents were tired of being represented by a government in Placerville.

Oktoberfest at American Legion Sunday

The community is invited to the American Legion on Sunday to enjoy a feast to celebrate Oktoberfest from 4 p.m to 8 p.m.

American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe and the Ladies Auxiliary will have a traditional German dinner on October 4, 2015. For just $10, people can enjoy dinner, music by the Cash Only Band as well as a raffle.

She made it to the Ellen Show but hasn't met Duran Duran, yet

We started the story of Bridey Heidel as she began a campaign to make it back stage to meet her lifelong idols, Duran Duran, at their September 25 concert in Reno. The dynamic South Tahoe High English teacher, and advisor to the school's ALLY Club, has had a dream to meet Simon Le Bon, the lead singer of the popular pop group who's top charting tunes include Come Undone, Hungry Life a Wolf and A View to a Kill.

25th Annual Lake Tahoe Toy Run

It is time once again for traditional South Lake Tahoe kick-off of the holiday season over the last 24 years, the Tahoe Toy Run.

Motorcycles full of toys for local youth in need will make their 25th run down Highway 50, this year from the airport to Sonney's BBQ Shack on October 3 starting at 10 a.m.

Bikers will start lining up the airport, which is located at 1901 Airport Road in South Lake Tahoe, at 10 a.m. for a 12 p.m. departure.

They will then proceed down Highway 50/Emerald Bay Road on the way to the party at Sonney's at 787 Emerald Bay Road.

South Tahoe High teacher attempting to meet Duran Duran

Popular South Tahoe High English teacher Bridey Heidel is trying to attract the attention of musicians Duran Duran and television host Ellen DeGeneres.

Why you ask?

To understand we need to take a step back in time to the year 1983 when a young Bridey was in 7th grade. She had found the band Duran Duran at a very difficult time in her young life and they helped her cope with a life full of trauma as well as moving from town to town. By the time she graduated high school she had been in 26 schools.

A review of Three Dog Night’s concert at the Montbleau Casino

In 1970, a young and talented piano player from England found himself as the opening act for a band that, according to www.ThreeDogNight.com “from 1969 through 1974 achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records and sold more concert tickets than any other band”, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin.

That’s just part of the story of the journey of Three Dog Night’s show last night at the Montbleau Casino in South Lake Tahoe.
