Woman arrested as suspect in Incline Village vehicle burglaries

A 28-year-old Reno woman has been arrested on five felony charges stemming from multiple vehicle burglary cases in Incline Village.

Detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Regional Crime Suppression Unit arrested Brandy Sosa on Tuesday. Over the past several weeks, patrol deputies took several vehicle burglary cases. Their investigation led them through neighborhoods where they garnered intelligence through interviews and obtaining surveillance videos.

Pair sought in Mt. Rose Highway vehicle burglaries

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with identifying vehicle burglary suspects who broke into multiple vehicles along Mt. Rose Highway at Sheep Flat.

Pair arrested on suspicion of breaking into cars at Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley trailheads

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Two people have been arrested in connection with six vehicle burglaries at trailhead parking areas in Douglas County, four at Lake Tahoe and two in the Carson Valley.

Between May 16 and May 23, 2020, the two suspects, Carolyn Brinkman and Harvis Berry, allegedly broke into cars, stealing cash and credit cards, then using the credit cards immediately at local stores, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Neither the name of the stores or trailheads have been disclosed.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested as suspect in local home burglaries

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A local man has been arrested as a suspect in two residential burglaries in the 1100 block of Fairway Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

At 6:40 a.m. on March 9, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was contacted by a citizen who called 911 after hearing glass breaking from a neighbor's house. The caller's husband walked outside and said he saw a suspect walking away from the area. When the suspect was confronted by the husband, he fled on foot. Officers found only broken glass and no entry was made.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office nabs three on stolen vehicle and drug charges

MINDEN, Nev. - Three California residents were arrested by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) on Sunday, July 21 at the Power Dam camping area.

Jeremy Stritenberger, 43, and Riki Scibelli Eltingham, 40, were arrested after a stolen Toyota Tacoma was found at the camping area on Washoe Road. The Toyota and a log splitter were reported stolen in Yuba City, Calif. Deputies located large amounts of property and personal effects inside the vehicle that they believe to be stolen in separate crimes.

Rash of theft from vehicles at Lake Tahoe prompts reminder from Douglas County Sheriff

STATELINE, Nev. - Over the weekend eight vehicles were burglarized in the Lake Tahoe area of Douglas County.

From Friday, May 17 to Monday, May 20, the burglaries appear to be random. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is actively investigating each incident.

"The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public, do not leave anything of value in your motor vehicles when parked in public parking lots, trailheads and Tahoe Beach access points along Hwy 50," said DCSO Undersheriff Ron Elges.

Pair arrested for alleged South Lake Tahoe crime spree

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two women from the Bay Area have been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for several car burglaries over a two day period in South Lake Tahoe.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received the first call at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 after a car burglary at the Sierra Athletic Club on Tahoe Keys Boulevard. A car window had been smashed and a purse was stolen.

The second call came in at 5:30 p.m. from the Fit Republic Gym on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The same method was used - a broken car window and a stolen purse.

South Lake Tahoe Police report big jump in vehicle thefts

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Followers of South Tahoe Now's police log have long known that the number of local auto thefts has been a concern of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) for the last several years, but they are now seeing a disturbing trend with a large spike in the crime over the past year.

In 2018 SLTPD investigated 70 auto thefts, with 60 of them being crimes committed in the city limits. This reflects as 30 percent increase in the thefts in the last two years, 52 percent since 2008.

South Lake Tahoe man jailed after three alleged burglaries of hotel supplies

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A South Lake Tahoe man is behind bars after being charged with three different burglaries of the Deerfield Lodge and possession of methamphetamines.

31-year-old Johnathan Adam Towne was arrested on December 16 after allegedly stealing $100 worth of towels and coffee pods on November 28 and $300 in sheets, towels, robes and toilet paper on December 8. On December 15 he was caught inside a room by hotel guests where he allegedly was stealing more coffee pods and hotel candy.

Reward offered in Stateline storage unit thefts

STATELINE, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is searching for two suspects in connection to recent commercial burglaries at the Stateline Storage units on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline, Nev.

All known victims have been notified of the thefts, but it doesn’t mean they have found all the victims yet. DCSO is not releasing the number of units affected.

Suspects sought in Douglas County crimes

Suspects are being sought in a series of attempted burglaries and vandalism incidents in the Gardnerville Ranchos area of Douglas County. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the responsible teenagers.

There have been four incidents of vandalism and burglary such as damaging vehicles on the street and attempting to enter residences to vandalize. The vandalism has been estimated to be around $4,500.

The incidents occurred in the last two weeks and during the night hours and the suspects appear to be teenagers.

Suspect sought in Washoe County car burglary at Tahoe

The public's help is being sought in locating a person of interest in a vehicle break-in on January 1 in the parking area of a trail head off Mt. Rose Highway.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives say their suspect broke through the window of the vehicle and stole a number of credit cards along with identification and keys. Subsequent investigation discovered that the credit cards had been used at multiple locations in Kings Beach, a gas station in San Ramon, California and at several locations in Reno, including Walmarts.

"Smash and Grab" vehicle burglaries in South Lake Tahoe

In a three-hour period on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, three vehicle burglaries occurred along Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe, one each at IHOP, Denny's and the Stateline Raley's.

All burglaries were a smash and grab where the perpetrator(s) broke the vehicle's windows and grabbed valuables from inside the cars.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) reminds everyone to not leave valuables in their vehicle, and to also keep eyes open and report suspicious activity. Also, keep homes and vehicles locked at all times.

Bay area residents arrested in Stateline on burglary charges

8:00PM Update 12/18/17: After the trio's arrest, detectives from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department served a search warrant on a motel room at Motel 6 on Highway 50, locating a significant amount of stolen property that had recently been reported stolen in Douglas County. They also located numerous items that may have been stolen, but were not previously reported. .

Man arrested as person of interest in Stateline burglary cases

The man wanted for questioning in a rash of burglaries in the lower Kingsbury and Stateline areas has been arrested.

Peter Quillian was arrested on Sunday, September 24 and is now in custody.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), Quillian was arrested on a fugitive warrant out of South Lake Tahoe. They said at the time of arrest he allegedly was in possession of a hypodermic needle.

Person of interest identified in rash of South Shore burglaries

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest in the rash of burglaries in the lower Kingsbury Grade and Stateline areas of the South Shore.

They would like to locate a person identified as Peter Quillian. If anyone knows an address, place of employment or current whereabouts, please call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (775) 782-5126.

Thieves steal over $110K in construction materials in Washoe County

Suspects are being sought after two construction sites in Washoe County lost over $110,000 in materials during late night burglaries this week.

Detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating two large commercial burglaries that took place between Wednesday night and Friday morning at construction sites in different parts of the county.

DCSO: Increase in auto burglaries in Stateline/Kingsbury area

Since August 24 there have been 13 burglaries with losses or attempted burglaries from unlocked cars in the lower Kingsbury and Stateline area of the South Shore. The crimes have been occurring in the dark hours to vehicles parked in driveways and on the street.

The losses include cash, wallets, a checkbook and and iPad. One witness reported seeing a white male 5’10, wearing shorts and a tee shirt wearing a baseball cap, carrying a backpack, trying to open a car door on a surveillance recording.

Man suspected of several vehicle break-ins at Stateline casino

A suspect has been arrested for a series of robberies from cars parked at Stateline, Nev. At 1:50 a.m. Sunday, June 4, Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) received a call from Harrah's Tahoe security, alerting them that they had detained a man, 22-year-old Jeremy Perez of San Francisco.

Perez was with security officers after he was seen leaving a parking lot where several vehicles had their windows smashed and property taken.

During their investigation DCSO deputies located evidence connecting Perez to the car burglaries and he was arrested.

Douglas County reports increase in thefts from unlocked cars

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public of an increase in vehicle burglaries in the county recently. There have been several reported cases of suspects getting into unlocked cars, just as there has been in South Lake Tahoe.

In Douglas County the increase began in the last two weeks and have up to this point have occurred in the Gardnerville Ranchos, Gardnerville and Minden. The losses during these car burglaries have been coin change and cell phones but any loss causes emotional and financial damage.

The community is in for a treat on Saturday, May 20 as the South Lake Tahoe Police Department celebrates 50 years of service with a party at Lakeview Commons from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Locals and visitors, young and old, can ride on the SLTPD boat, see the department's K-9s, watch a demonstration over the water with CalStar at 3:00 p.m., watch how the drone assists in rescues, an awards ceremony that will honor three citizens as well as staff at 4:00 p.m., and a free BBQ. There is also a free concert on the beach.

Two women identified as suspects in Nevada burglaries

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has warrants out for the arrest of two women in connection with a series of burglaries and burglary-related crimes in the county. One of the suspects is also a suspect in a number of burglaries currently under investigation by the Truckee Police Department, and the Carson City and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices.

Auto thefts and burglaries continue to target South Lake Tahoe residents

There has been a rash of suspicious circumstances in the Gardner Mountain area over the last week, ones that remind residents to lock their cars to prevent petty theft and other crimes of opportunity.

On March 19 between 4:04 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., 10 calls went into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department about suspicious activity on Gardner Street, Clement Street, Julie Lane, Tata Lane and Sand Harbor Road. In each incident, dome lights were on several cars as if some person(s) attempted to open them. In one incident the truck's doors were open and a stereo was stolen.

Auto burglaries on rise in South Lake Tahoe; Two car thefts in one day

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is warning residents and visitors to take extra precaution in protecting their valuables as nine thefts from vehicles occurred between February 20-25, and two cars were stolen on February 24.

Six of the auto burglaries were in the Tahoe Island area and most of the cars involved in the City were left unlocked by their owners.

The first stolen car was a 2010 Silver Nissan Altima with Illinois license plate Z495853. It was stolen from the 1100 block of Herbert Avenue but has since been recovered.

Carson City and Douglas law officers arrest three in connection to recent home burglaries

Detectives from Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office worked a joint investigation Wednesday involving multiple residential burglaries between the two counties. Three men were arrested as a result of the investigation, a law enforcement captain said.

The investigation, publicly announced earlier Wednesday, led detectives to Dayton where two suspects were located in possession of a large amount of stolen property from several burglaries, said Carson City Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brian Humphrey.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief: Marijuana and property thefts

Marijuana Brownie Incident - During the last weekend of July, a group of women visited South Lake Tahoe for a bachelorette party. During the visit, the women willfully ingested marijuana brownies they obtained through a ride-share company. Within a few hours, 10 of the women were taken to the emergency room in South Lake Tahoe. Eight of the ten were later admitted to the hospital for treatment. While many would have you believe marijuana is a harmless drug, those of us in the public safety arena have seen increases in medical emergencies from marijuana ingestion.

Man arrested in Hawaii after burglary spree from El Dorado County to San Luis Obispo

A Bay Area man was arrested on New Year's Eve after he got off an airplane in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Tyrone Brennen is the suspect in two El Dorado County burglaries, one in Cool and the other in Coloma.

Numerous agencies were involved in the collaborative investigation that resulted in Brennen's arrest. Besides El Dorado County, he is also suspected of burglaries in Placer, Nevada and San Luis Obispo counties.

Brennen is being transported to San Luis Obispo where he faces the first charge of burglary.

Fernley man arrested for string of burglaries; WCSO offers home safety tips

Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a burglary suspect in Caughlin Ranch early this morning after the suspect attempted to elude deputies who were investigating a series of home and vehicle burglaries.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, deputies responded to the area of Longknife Road and Caughlin Parkway on a report of a vehicle burglary that had just occurred. Deputies canvassed the area and identified two burglarized vehicles. Deputies also discovered that the suspect had used garage door openers to enter and burglarize the residences.

Suspect in residential burglaries arrested in Douglas County

A 23-year old California man has been arrested in Douglas County on multiple charges stemming from a rash of residential burglaries in the Chichester area of the county.

While conducting targeted crime prevention enforcement in Chichester on Tuesday, investigators observed a suspicious man. When Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, he ran away by jumping fences but was later apprehended.

Father and son arrested in South Lake Tahoe for weapons and drugs

A father and son were arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday evening for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs in the 800 block of Tallac Avenue.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department's SWAT team and SLEDNET detectives served a high-risk warrant on the residence that resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Richard Martin and his 23-year old son Joshua Martin.

Over the last three months, investigators had been examining several different cases that were all affiliated with the Tallac Avenue address where both Martins resided.

Gangs are a problem in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe may be a small city of around 23,000 residents but it isn't immune to the big city problems of gangs.

Our mountain hamlet has white gangs, a black gang, hispanic gangs, motorcycle gangs and even white supremacists and sometimes they cross racial lines in order to beef up numbers. The gang names won't be mentioned in this article because of the advertising value it would give them as they try and recruit children and new members.

Last week's arrest of three gang members for a home invasion robbery brought the comment to the forefront..."Tahoe has gangs?"

Burglary suspect fills out job application and eats McFlurry before committing crime

This story could be straight out of the "dumb criminals" shows on television.

On October 23, the Trailhead Lodge located at 3892 Lake Tahoe Blvd reported a burglary from their locked and unattended lobby. Officer Hounsell from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded and watched surveillance footage from the motel.

South Lake Tahoe Police looking for suspects in five burglaries

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is investigating several burglaries in the "Y" area of the city that occurred over the last two days.

On Wednesday, October 22 at 11:15 p.m., SLT Police responded to an alarm at the K-Mart Garden Center where they found the front glass door smashed in. Two suspects attempted to steal the cash registers but stole cash instead. They fled on foot and witnesses described the suspects as males wearing grey hooded sweatshirts.

The crimes have not been centralized in any one particular area, although several have occurred in the area of the Y and some of the same businesses have been victimized more than once.

El Dorado County Sheriffs Trying to Reunite Recovered Property With Owners

Throughout recent months El Dorado County Sheriff's Office detectives have been investigating an increasingly high volume of residential burglaries. As previously released, four suspects were arrested related to burglaries. One of those suspects was Gary Joseph Masse who was paroled in July 2013 after serving prison time for a previous burglary conviction.

Three Arrested For String of West Slope Burglaries

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department retrieved hundreds of stolen items from a home in Georgetown after investigating a series of burglaries in the towns of Pollock Pines, Camino, Placerville and Georgetown. They arrested three residents of a home after conducting a search of a home following discovery of a stolen car.

Jeri Acuna, a 37 year old woman was arrested for possession of stolen property and a stolen vehicle, Ryann Jana Leidel, a 32 year old female was arrested for two outstanding felony warrants. Parolee Tommie Richard Stover was arrested on two other felony warrants.

Caution Urged: South Lake Tahoe Burglaries and Car Thefts on Rise

South Lake Tahoe Police report that home and car burglaries are on the rise in the city. Unattended cars being warmed up on cold mornings are also tempting car thieves so caution is urged at home and with vehicles.

Lt. Brian Willians of the SLTPD is advising residents that a warming up car left alone is a tempting invitation to a thief. Keep cars locked when parked and don't leave home windows and doors unlocked and open.

During the week of October 23 to 30 there was 1 auto theft and 6 burglaries in the city limits. Since September 19 the SLTPD has responded to 15 auto theft calls.

South Lake Tahoe Residents Arrested in Douglas County Burglary

Three South Lake Tahoe residents were arrested Friday and stolen property was recovered after law officers found them attempting to burglarize a home at the Valley Crest Estates in north Douglas County, authorities said.

South Lake Tahoe police arrest man, recover stolen property from vacation home burglaries

South Lake Tahoe police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with several burglaries of vacation homes in town in which a large amount of stolen property was recovered.

Eric Beaman, 26, of South Lake Tahoe, faces charges of being in possession of stolen property, said South Lake Tahoe Police Department Lt. Brian Williams. A search warrant of a home on Armstrong Avenue led to the finding and arrest.

Douglas County authorities seek public help in solving Carson Valley burglaries

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects responsible for several burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The unknown suspects committed burglaries at four separate locations in Douglas County; including a commercial burglary at the Genoa Bar, two burglaries at unoccupied homes in a residential neighborhood in Genoa, and several vehicle burglaries at two local auto repair shops in Gardnerville.

South Lake Tahoe updates its juvenile curfew ordinance

The City of South Lake Tahoe has updated it’s Curfew Ordinance (18-1-3.7). Because of the recent changes and the desire by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department to enforce the ordinance from 1/1/2013 forward, we would like to update the community on the recent passage of the “Day Time Curfew.”
