SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials have announced 12 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. Five are in the Lake Tahoe region, two in El Dorado Hills, two in Placerville, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz. Of those new cases, three are male, nine are female, seven are aged 18-49, three aged 50-64, two aged 65+.

Three are 7 new recoveries and 134 active cases.

One more person has been hospitalized in the ICU, bringing that total to three. There are no additional suspected cases in the hospital.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been another 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County. Seven of the new cases were in El Dorado Hills, five in the Lake Tahoe region of the county, three in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and one in Placerville. Of the new cases, one is under 18, ten are aged 18-49, four aged 50-64 and one in the 65+ group. Nine are male, seven are female.

Six more people have recovered, with 129 active cases. There has been no change to hospitalization figures and two remain in the ICU. There is one suspected COVID-19 patient in the ICU.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District reopening plans to be discussed at July 14 meeting

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board of Trustees will hear a draft proposal on what the reopening of school in the fall will look like at during a special meeting on July 14 at 5:00 p.m.

"We are in a unique time for public schools. We have been challenged to create plans for the start of the 2020/21 school year that will provide a quality education for our students and at the same time provide safety for us all. This is not an easy task," new LTUSD Superintendent Dr. Todd Cutler said in his weekly email to staff, parents, and the public.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There were four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County Tuesday, with two of those in the Lake Tahoe region, one from Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue area and one from El Dorado Hills. All are in the 18-49-years-old age group.

The total count only changed by two due to one person's location being misidentified and another was a duplicate entry, according to county officials.

There were two new recoveries, bringing that total to 145, leaving 119 active cases.

Embarc Tahoe dispensary now open in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first cannabis dispensary to operate under the new City of South Lake Tahoe rules and regulations is now open.

Embarc Tahoe has opened its doors and held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday with Mayor Jason Collin, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, members of the Embarc Tahoe team and the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

Owner Christy Wilson moved into what was once Tahoe Teriyaki and has since been several different businesses.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there were 20 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Thursday with 11 in the Lake Tahoe region, four in El Dorado Hills, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, two in Greater Placerville, and two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue.

There were three new recoveries leaving 95 active cases. Two people were released from local hospitals, leaving three hospitalized and one in the ICU. There are also two suspected COVID-19 cases in the ICU.

There have been 236 additional tests given.

COVID-19 testing at Lake Tahoe Community College through July

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - COVID-19 testing will continue in the Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Physical Education building through the end of July, at a minimum.

The LTCC virus testing site is the only large scale site in El Dorado County after the site at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs closed. There has since opened a testing site in El Dorado Hills.

The decision to continue using the facility as a testing site will be made on a month-to-month basis going forward.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe region of El Dorado County passed the century mark Thursday with three new cases of COVID-19. Health officials report eight new confirmed cases with two in El Dorado Hills, one in the Diamond Springs/El Dorado area, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue area, and one person's regional address is unknown at this time.

Of the new cases, six are male, two female, one is under the age of 18, six in the 18-49 age group and one in the 50-64-year-old group.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) hosted a “Workout with Law Enforcement” day at Lampe Park in Gardnerville for Special Olympics Athletes, an event that concluded the ‘DCSO Special Olympics Fitness Challenge’.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office worked-out alongside the athletes, cheering each other on, just as they do at the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run event.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials announced six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, five in the Lake Tahoe region, and one in the Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue area. Of the new numbers, two are male, four female, four in the 18-48 age group and two in the 50-64 age group.

No new recoveries have been reported, with that number remaining at 122. At this time there are 62 active cases of COVID-19. One positive person remains hospitalized in the ICU with one suspected case in the ICU.

Harrah's, Harveys and all Caesars properties now have mandatory mask requirements

STATELINE, Nev. - Harrah's Tahoe, Harveys, and all other Caesars Entertainment properties now require masks to be worn by everyone indoors at its properties across the Caesars network. This includes all employees, vendors, contractors, guests, and passersby in their properties.

In a statement today, Caesars Entertainment said the new universal mask requirement began at noon on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Masks are not required when eating and guests will be allowed to smoke or drink by moving the mask, then recovering their mouth and nose when done.

TTD announces fixed-route service adjustments due to COVID-19 staffing challenges

STATELINE, Nev. - In a continued effort to maintain essential transit services and prioritize the safety of transit operators and passengers, the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is notifying the public that it anticipates periodic frequency reductions for fixed-route services due to COVID-19 staffing challenges. TTD will also limit the number of passengers on paratransit buses to comply with social distancing measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Washoe County Marine 9 rescues couple from Lake Tahoe

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - Washoe County deputies on board Marine 9 found a couple clinging to a deflated raft on Lake Tahoe around 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18.

Deputies aboard the boat were patrolling just northwest of the Thunderbird Lodge on the east shore when they spotted a number of items, including paddles and shoes, floating on the lake.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As California reaches over 5,000 deaths, Governor Newsom announced Thursday that almost everyone in the state will now be required to wear face masks in public.

“Science shows that face coverings and masks work,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “They are critical to keeping those who are around you safe, keeping businesses open, and restarting our economy.”

A look at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Law enforcement has come a long way in South Lake Tahoe since the first police department started on July 1, 1967. At that time there were 30 sworn male officers who were chosen from a list of more than 400 applicants who wanted to be part of the first police department for the new city. They were tested in Seal Beach, Roseville, and South Lake Tahoe then interviewed in Los Angeles and Sacramento.

South Lake Tahoe COVID-19 testing spot for residents of area counties and Nevada

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Coronavirus testing site at Lake Tahoe Community College is now open for residents from El Dorado and Alpine counties as well as the state of Nevada.

Testing is also now available to all ages and people can get tested more than once with no charge. No medical insurance is required.

With businesses and the casinos opening up, the chance of exposure has increased. While wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and socially distancing dramatically increases the chances of not contracting the virus, people can still become exposed.

Two men rescued from Lake Tahoe after their kayaks capsize

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two men were pulled from the chilly waters of Lake Tahoe after their kayaks capsized late Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 5:00 p.m. on June 6, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue's Marine 17 was dispatched to the water off of Baldwin Beach for possible kayakers in distress. One of the kayakers was able to make a call and the GPS coordinates put the two men several hundred yards off the shore between Baldwin Beach and Emerald Bay.

With regions re-opening for medical treatments and elective surgeries put on hold due to COVID-19, the need for blood has increased by 25 percent compared to recent weeks. Blood donors are needed to help people through procedures previously delayed, including heart surgeries, cancer treatments, and organ/marrow transplants. Some needs never change including blood for massive trauma, childbirth complications, and emergency surgeries.

Casinos preparing to reopen in June with new rules

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was one new case of COVID-19 reported in El Dorado County Wednesday, a woman in the Diamond Springs/El Dorado area. She is in the 18-49-year-old age group. There has now been a total of 81 reported cases of COVID-19 to date.

There were two new recoveries today, bringing the total number to 59. There are 22 active cases and no hospitalizations or ICU cases reported for confirmed patients. Two people are currently in the ICU in El Dorado County that are suspected of having COVID-19 as well as two hospitalized with suspected COVID-19.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been two new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County today, one in the Greater Placerville area and the other in the Lake Tahoe region. Both are male, one aged 18-49 and the other in the 50-64 age range.

There have now been 80 cases of COVID-19 in the county. Currently there is one in the ICU and another hospitalized (from which region is not shared). There are currently 23 active cases.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County is reporting four new confirmed cases over the weekend, bringing the total to 78. The new cases are one from Greater Placerville, one from Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and two from the Lake Tahoe Region.

They are three women, one male, three in the 18-49-year-old group, and one from the 50-64-year-old group.

Recoveries remained the same at 57, leaving 21 active cases. One person in the county with a confirmed case is in the ICU and there are currently four suspected cases in the ICU county-wide.
