Celebrities teeing up for Gene Upshaw Golf Tournament

NFL Hall of Famers, former Major League Baseball players and other sports celebrities will gather July 17-18 to once again pay tribute to the former Oakland Raider at the 8th annual Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic at the Schaffer’s Mill Golf & Lake Club in Truckee, Calif.

Upshaw, who often played in the Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, died of pancreatic cancer in 2008 at Tahoe Forest Hospital.

OMG Fun Run to take runners up Meyers Grade

Volunteers needed for Amgen Tour's South Lake Tahoe competition

The Amgen Tour of California South Lake Tahoe Organizing Committee is seeking 300 volunteers for the combined stages for men and women on Thursday, May 19, 2016.

The men’s elite race Stage 5 will begin in Lodi, Calif. at 10 a.m., and finish around 3:45 p.m. at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge in South Lake Tahoe totaling 132.4 miles. The women’s Stage 1 will start at 10:50 a.m. and finish approximately at 2:00 p.m. at Heavenly, totaling 72.7 miles.

Dual on Dynamite bump contest at Sierra on Saturday

South Lake Tahoe Police search for convicted sex offender

Rafael Corea, a 61 year old former restaurant worker, has failed to register as a sex offender and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department would like to find him.

In 1995, Corea was convicted for lew and lascivious acts with a minor aged 14 or 15. As part of his conviction he much register as a sexual offender for the rest of his life, and he failed to do so in 2015 as required.

SLTPD detectives discovered Corea has moved out of his former residence in South Lake Tahoe and his current whereabouts are unknown, and they'd like the public's help in locating him.

Kindergarten Round Up for all perspective students

Its time again for kindergarten enrollment in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Registration for the 2016-17 school year is being held from May 2 through May 6 at all local elementary schools for children will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2016.

Children who will be five years of age between September 1, 2016 and December 2, 2016 qualify for Transitional Kindergarten (TK), a two year Kindergarten program located at Tahoe Valley Elementary School.

Educational series on caring for the aging presented by El Dorado County

A six-week educational series that will provide support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member of friend over the age of 60 will be presented by El Dorado County starting April 18, 2016.

On October 27, 2015, Sue Novasel, the County Supervisor representing South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Tahoma and Pollock Pines was served a “notice of intent to circulate a recall petition” by a group of citizens who said they are “tired of the corruption and cronyism that has plagued our county for years.” It wasn’t only Novasel, but all five of the County Supervisors, Shiva Frentzen, Ron Mikulaco, Michael Ranalli and Brian Veerkamp.

New drone regulations for Lake Tahoe and the US

Now that the gift giving season is upon us, many people may have model airplanes, drones or quadcopters on their wish list. There are some new rules in place that all users of the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) need to know.

The Federal Aviation Administration today that all UAS units weighing between 0.55 pounds and 50 pounds must be registered by February 19th, 2016.

Traffic stop on I80 leads to seizure of 63 pounds of pot

Two Plumas Lake, Calif., residents found themselves in the Washoe County Jail on Sunday after Nevada State Troopers found 63 pounds of marijuana in the back of their car.

At 11:10 a.m. on December 6, Troopers pulled over a white Ford Expedition with New York registration tags for a moving violation on I80 near Robb Drive. The car was occupied by Patrick Fay, 64, and Corinne Fay, 57.

South Lake Tahoe hockey team raising funds for international finals in Canada

The Lake Tahoe Grizzlies Peewee Team is the 2015 Pacific District Regional Silver Stick Champions in the Peewee B division which has earned them a spot at the International Finals in Ontario, Canada. In order to help the young boys and girls with travel expenses, the team has started a fundraising campaign selling "Tahoe Strong" T-Shirts.

All 14 team members have excelled not only on the ice, but in the classroom according to fundraiser organizer Tye Watson. They players come from South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Truckee, Reno, Carson City and Minden.

Operation Scarecrow keeps Nevada children safe from predators

In an effort to keep children safe, the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Division of Parole and Probation is conducting their 9th Annual Halloween Operation “Scarecrow” in conjunction with United States Marshals Service’s Operation “Trick Or Treat.”

They are providing enhanced safety for children living in Carson City, Reno, Sparks and Washoe County who may be targeted by sexual predators during the Halloween holiday with their joint task force operation which has been in affect all week.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services holding 3k Ugly Sweater Walk

Music and food to reward participants in 9th Annual Keep Sierra Clean Day

In past years, thousands of pounds of trash has been cleared from the summer slopes, brought in by loyal passholders and employees along with community groups and organizations such as the Sierra Education Foundation, local Boy Scouts and West Slope high school ski and snowboard teams.

Golf tournament to raise funds for fallen South Lake Tahoe firefighter

There will be a golf tournament at the Tahoe Paradise Golf Course on Saturday, October 3 to benefit the family of fallen firefighter, Mikey Hallenbeck.

Hallenbeck, 21, died this summer after a tree fell on him while fighting his first fire as a member of the U.S.F.S. fire crew. He grew up in Shingle Springs, Calif., was living in Meyers at the time of his death and worked at Sierra-at-Tahoe during the winter.

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation will host the tournament, called "Barefoot for Birdies," with all funds raised going to the family as well as the foundation.

Season wraps up for inaugural cross country night bike races

The inaugural Tahoe Games Bike Night Series, presented by On Course Events, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics and the Lake Tahoe Golf Course will conclude with the final races of the season on Saturday, September 26.

These family-friendly x-country night bike races feature a custom illuminated course that runs through the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, over fairways, into the rough, through sand traps and over bridges with the occasional cart path. The course is approximately 3 miles per lap, with most classes riding 2 laps.

1,800 cyclists to bike around the lake in Sunday's Tour de Tahoe

The 13th annual Tour de Tahoe bicycle ride around the lake is on Sunday, September 13. More than 1,800 riders are expected to take on the 4,000 feet of climbing involved in the ride which continues to gain in popularity. Besides recreational riders there will also be teams riding to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Moose Lodge hosts free fishing derby for kids on South Shore Sunday
