Firefighters quickly put out Carson River Resort fire
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/20/2016 - 5:16pm1:50 p.m. update 8/21: Fire officials have updated the acreage burned in Saturday's fire at the Carson River Resort. 29 acres burned have burned and fire fighters are in mop up mode.
The fire is now 60 percent contained.

8:00 a.m. update 8/21: Firefighters have been able to get a 40 percent containment line around the Carson Fire which has burned 50 acres around the Carson River Resort south of Markleeville.

Full daytime closure of State Route 89 near Emerald Bay starts Monday

The road will close just north of South Lake Tahoe from Cascade Creek Bridge to Bayview Campground and Inspiration Vista Point.
Oregon man seriously injured when he collides with deer near Pickett's Junction
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/11/2016 - 9:50amAn Oregon man riding a 1978 BMW motorcycle was seriously injured Wednesday when he collided with a deer on State Route 89 near the intersection with State Route 88 in Alpine County.
Portland resident Rudolf Jung, 32, was riding with a group in the southbound lane just after noon when the deer ran directly in front of him. He was forced onto the dirt shoulder where he overtuned and was ejected.

El Dorado County is holding a public meeting about the Meyers Corridor Plan on Thursday, July 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the California Conservation Corps Building at 1949 Apache Ave. in Meyers.
Staff will be presenting the three options on roadway and path improvements that are aimed at providing attractive and safe transportation options for the area for those that work, play and visit Meyers. The targeted 1.3 mile stretch along Highway 50 and Highway 89 will see lighting, signage, landscaping and a reduction of reliance on cars with increased improvements for walkers and bikers.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 04/23/2016 - 9:21pmThe Meyers area will soon see a new erosion control project and water quality improvement projects in the neighborhood bordered by the Upper Truckee River on the west and Lake Tahoe Golf Course on the northwest, US Highway 501 State Route 89 on the south, and by Pioneer Trail on a small portion on the east.
The County will administer rights-of-way to install the improvements to the existing storm water conveyance system which is comprised of channels, basins, culverts, inlets, and infiltration system.

There is a lake wind advisory in place for Lake Tahoe until 8:00 p.m. Thursday with winds from the southwest 15 to 25 mph, and gusts up to 40 mph. Waves on the lake will be 2 to 4 feet

El Dorado County is proposing roadway and multi-us path improvements for the Meyers community, and they are inviting the public to participate during three different outreach meetings on Friday, April 22.
The proposed changes are meant to make the transportation options more safe and attractive for those living in the area as well those visiting or passing through. One option already mentioned by Caltrans is the addition of a roundabout at the Highway 50/Highway 89 intersection to slow down traffic coming from Echo Summit.

South Tahoe High grad killed in single car accident near Pope Beach
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/28/2016 - 4:38pmThe El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and California Highway Patrol continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a South Lake Tahoe teen early Saturday morning.
According to EDSO Lt. Jim Byers, 19-year-old Jillian Pruitt was the lone occupant in a car that collided with a tree on State Route 89 at 3:40 a.m. March 26, 2016.
Byers said the accident is still under investigation and few details are available at this time. He said that circumstance of the crash are making it complex.
High avalanche warning for backcountry; Expect snow until Monday morning

Chain controls going up on Lake Tahoe roads
Submitted by paula on Sat, 03/12/2016 - 8:07pmThe next way in a series of storms over the Sierra has made its way into Lake Tahoe tonight, with forecasters predicting up to two feet of snow at lake level by Monday morning.
Interstate 80 has had chain controls up for much of the afternoon, and Highway 50 has just put theirs up.
As of 8 p.m. Saturday, controls are now up on Highway 50 from Twin Bridges to Meyers, with chains required on all vehicles except 4WD with snow tires.
Caltrans looking at roundabout or traffic signal in Meyers
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/26/2016 - 5:04pmDue to the unsafe intersection of Highway 50 and State Route 89, Caltrans is looking at safety improvements in the area to reduce collisions, and their severity. At this time, the preferred option for Caltrans is adding a roundabout at the intersection to improve conditions after a reported seven accidents at the intersection.
The estimated $3.1 million project is scheduled for construction in 2018-19. It is currently in the environmental phase, with the environmental document scheduled to be finalized in November 2016.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work continues on a $36 million project to increase the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches. The vertical clearance will be increased on seven structures by lifting the existing bridge deck and the other two will have the roadway below dug down. State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.
