LTCC Teachers Honored for Excellence

Lake Tahoe Community College English instructor Michael O’Laughlin and Sociology/Anthropology instructor Dr. Scott Lukas have both been honored for their outstanding work in the classroom. O’Laughlin was selected by LTCC students as their Teacher of the Year, and Dr. Lukas was chosen by his fellow faculty members as the Distinguished Faculty Award recipient. The winners will each personally receive $500 thanks to a generous donation by the LTCC Foundation. They’ll also each get to direct another $500 towards the LTCC program or scholarship or classroom materials of their choice.

Census data for businesses and grant writers

TahoeChamber and the United States Census Bureau are teaming up to present two workshops focusing on how to navigate through the Census website and the American FactFinder website.

The workshops will be held on September 26 in the TahoeChamber Conference Room at 169 US HWY 50, Stateline, NV. Bring a laptop computer to interactively participate in the workshop. Project WET and Project Learning Tree Workshop

Musical phenomenon 'RENT' to hit the LTCC Duke Theatre stage

The Lake Tahoe Community College Theatre Arts Department is excited to present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, “RENT,” with book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson.

Performances are June 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 at 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees on June 16 and 23 at 2:00 p.m. Set in New York City’s East Village, "RENT" follows the lives of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians as they struggle to survive and create in Manhattan’s Lower East Side during the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, and under the shadow of the AIDS epidemic.

Lead Paint Renovator, Repair, Painter (RRP) Training Course Offered

South Lake Tahoe's Lead Safe Tahoe program has partnered with Lake Tahoe Community College to offer a Renovator, Repair, Painter (RRP) course in both English and Spanish, April 19-20.

The one-day class explains how to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's RRP rule. Subjects covered include: health effects, regulations, lead safe work practices, containment, cleaning and record keeping.

After passing an end-of-class exam, students receive RRP initial training certificates.

University of California to host Forest Landowner Workshops

The University of California will host a two-part workshop series on succession planning to help forest landowners learn simple techniques to pass their land and its legacy on to the next generation. The first workshop is being offered at 7 locations throughout California. In the central Sierra Nevada, workshops will be held in Auburn on Oct. 30, Jackson on Nov. 13, and Sacramento on Nov. 15.
