ADVANCE workshop series in South Lake Tahoe offers help to families

Enriching your life while simultaneously connecting with your children on both an academic and personal level is a challenge all families face. Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is extending their parent support programs by offering the Helping Parents ADVANCE Workshop Series at no charge.

Their second workshop will be on April 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bijou Elementary School located at 3501 Spruce Ave in South Lake Tahoe. All attendees are invited to a free dinner, too.

Growing Food in Tahoe Workshop Series

Dreaming of your garden? Want to get a jump start on prepping veggies for your summer garden?

Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe this May for free family friendly, hands-on workshops to learn how food can be grown at the Lake. They will be hosting Growing Food in Lake Tahoe Workshop Series around the lake.

Participants receive instruction on cultivation technique and background on the plants being highlighted. Everyone will leave with free plants for their garden.

One day working for Lake Tahoe restaurant owners: Increase Profitability

Free Helping Parents ADVANCE Workshop this week in South Lake Tahoe

Douglas County Commissioners seek feedback on strategic plan

The public is being asked for feedback as Douglas County moves forward on planning their next four years. Their new strategic pan will be the roadmap on directions for the County and its Board of County Commissioners.

The commissioners and staff met on February 6, 2017 to review survey feedback from residents and map out new strategic priorities. Infrastructure, organizational sustainability and financial stability were all identified as top priorities. Economic vitality; safe community; and natural resources, culture and quality of life were also categorized as priorities.

South Lake Tahoe vacation rental workshop shows wide range of opinions

Douglas County looks for community input on strategic plan

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will meet in a workshop setting in early February to update the County's strategic plan, and before they do that they are reaching out to the community for their input.

Artists sought for summer program at Valhalla in South Lake Tahoe

El Dorado Community Foundation awards over $260,000 in grants

Major impacts to communities in El Dorado County were made possible through $264,905 in grants for 2016/2017 from the El Dorado Community Foundation.

Funding for the came from community members who invested in the foundation through Donor Assisted Funds. Those donating to the fund were able to engage in a new process this year by reading the grant proposals (55 were received) and the year-end reports of the non-profits applying for them.

Community participates in first of three public VHR workshops in South Lake Tahoe

The City of South Lake Tahoe promised to hire a company to provide a socio-economic study on the impacts of vacation home rentals (VHRs) on the city. Michael Baker Incorporated, a company that has studied the same impacts at Big Bear Lake, Morro Bay, Monterey and Avalon on Catalina Island, was hired to do the job.

Wednesday night, representatives from Michael Baker had stations around a room at the Senior Center to determine what the almost 100 people who were at the meeting thought was important, and not important, of several aspects of both the study and VHRs.

Meeting held to help local employers with new federal overtime rule

A new federal law goes into effect on December 1 that entitles salaried employees to get overtime pay if they make less than $47,476 per year. To help people understand this change they are holding a lunchtime workshop on Wednesday, November 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab.

According to the White House, an estimated 4.2 million white collar workers will become entitled to overtime pay when they work extra hours as a result of the new rule, and wages for workers will increase by $12 billion over the next 10 years.

Upcoming public workshop on South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals

As planned, the City of South Lake Tahoe is now conducting a study of the socioeconomic impacts of vacation home rentals (VHRs) on the region. Their "Vacation Home Rental Analysis" is being led by a team of consultants from the firm, Michael Baker International.

Part of their study includes both stakeholders meetings and meetings with the community, both of which begin later this month.

GO Local Retailers Workshop hosted by Tahoe Chamber

Help guide creation of a scenic Lake Tahoe shoreline plan

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is inviting people to attend an upcoming community workshop on Thursday, November 3 to share input and ideas and help guide the creation of a Shoreline Plan. The workshop is open to the public and will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the TRPA offices in Stateline at 128 Market Street.

WordWave returns to South Lake Tahoe: Workshops, plays and Steampunk all rolled into one weekend

Community weighs in on Lake Tahoe transportation issues

There is a balancing act needed to provide quality transportation, protect Lake Tahoe, keep clean air and meet the needs of the communities around the lake, but that is what Tahoe Transportation District is trying to accomplish with a series of pubic outreach efforts.

On Tuesday night in South Lake Tahoe, staff from the TTD, Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization (TMPO) and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) held an open house at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel to get a pulse on the feelings of the public about transportation.

Tibetan Monks returning to South Lake Tahoe

Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery are returning to South Lake Tahoe from April 1 to April 6 with a full schedule of ancient and colorful participatory activities, Dharma talks, meditations, and cultural rituals to promote inner healing.

All events are donation based and all proceeds will go towards funding the construction of the Phukhang College House at Gaden Shartse, which houses over 600 exiled monks in the Tibetan Refugee Zone in India.
