Public shares their vision for the future look of South Lake Tahoe

The City of South Lake Tahoe held their second public workshop on design standards for the community at City Hall on Wednesday evening, and have invited everyone to participate in an online survey.
Results from tonight's event, combined with those received online will be compiled and brought back to the public in a final meeting around March 9, though the date hasn't been officially set as of yet.

Deadline approaching to get booth space for Tahoe Chamber Business Expo

The 2016 Expo is the South Shore’s largest business and networking experience produced by Tahoe Chamber and it showcases businesses and their products, programs and services to over 1,500 attendees.

Give your input on what future buildings in the city limit should look like at the next City of South Lake Tahoe Design Review Guidelines Public Workshop at Council Chambers on Wednesday, February 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
This is the second workshop held for the public on design. During the first one last month, participants were able to rate photos of signs, buildings and overall look of a community. Those not attending also participated by completing an online survey.

Fire Chief with history of alcohol problems resigns after DUI arrest

On December 18, at about 1:50 p.m., El Dorado County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a neighbor dispute in the town of Greenwood, 17 miles north of Placerville. The person who called 911 said his neighbor, Dekker, had threatened to shoot him during a dispute over a loose dog, according to a statement released by the Sheriff's department.

Help plan the future of South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center

A workshop will be held in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday that will help develop ideas for the design of a new recreation center for the city.
The first Recreation Complex Renovation planning meeting will be held at the Recreation Center, located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd., on Tuesday, December 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The community has been invited to participate in the future of several local projects, and this gives citizens another opportunity to have their voice heard.

Drought threatens Lake Tahoe Cave Rock water system
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/21/2015 - 10:05pmWave action is damaging pipes for Douglas County’s Lake Tahoe Cave Rock water system that are above the surface, thanks to the drought.
Lake residents get their water from the Lake, once famed for its clarity.
But with the surface continuing to drop, Douglas is looking at means to ensure the water keeps flowing.
County Engineer Nick Charles told Douglas County commissioners at a workshop on Thursday that the Lake level was about 4 inches from activating a Stage 2 drought.
South Lake Tahoe City Council censures JoAnn Conner

An overflowing crowd spent over three hours in Council Chambers as comments were made both supporting Conner, and against what they said was "abusive, bullying and intolerant behavior."
Mental health workshop to focus on suicide, drug overdose and depression

A panel of mental health experts will address the impact of suicide, drug overdose, depression and other issues affecting people in South Lake Tahoe during a workshop on October 21 at the Lake Tahoe Community College from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Creekside Room.
There are a host of partners presenting this workshop to the community including
El Dorado County, Barton Health, Tahoe Youth & Family Services and the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP).

Community comments combined into new Regan Beach plan

On Tuesday night, the latest plan for the Regan Beach area were unveiled to a group gathered at the South Lake Tahoe recreation center.
While attendance hasn't reflected a very large portion of the community, several dozen locals have played active roles at the meetings.

Is Lake Tahoe public transportation meeting your needs?

The South Lake Tahoe workshop is being held on September 30 at 1 p.m. inside the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center's conference room located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. . Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) invites people to share comments on unmet transit needs in the South Shore Tahoe Region.
Attendance is encouraged at the public hearing to share thoughts and learn more about transportation within the Tahoe Region.

An interactive, and free, book festival will be held at Valhalla on October 10, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and some activities are meant for kids.
Tahoe Wordwave will have several opportunities for the younger set to get creative, from bookmaking and printmaking to a novel writing camp. There will also be book arts, poetry, travel writing, fiction and songwriting workshops.

How the City of South Lake Tahoe plans to spend $73 million
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/02/2015 - 9:43pmCity Manager Nancy Kerry and Mark Carlson, the City's Administrative Services Director presented the 2015-16 Fiscal year budget to the South Lake Tahoe City Council during a workshop Tuesday.
"There is a lot we can be proud of," Kerry said.
The budget process has been ongoing since May, involving staff in making the decision on where to cut back, and where to spend.

Design Workshop wins two Nevada awards

The company, who has an office on the South Shore, has completed projects in 30 countries over the last 45 years. They received the Elmer H. Anderson Parks Excellence Award for the work they have done to make the Ballardini Ranch Trailhead project a success. The project team also included Wood Rodgers, Spanish Springs Construction and Angie Persigehl.
Regan Beach community meeting unveils top three plans

Almost 50 people attended the meeting, giving their input on the three choices. The engaged group gave Design Workshop, the company providing the redesign concepts, a lot of input on all three plans.

Put on your ruby slippers and come to the Emerald City Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27 as the Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater presents “The Wizard of Oz.” The production will be held at the TADA Viking Theater at South Tahoe High School.
The stars of the play will be children between the ages of 5 and 14 who have been participating in the two week musical theater workshop, Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater.
This year’s workshop was attended by over 80 children who were divided into two casts for 4 performances.

Vocal crowd at SLT City Council's Vacation Home Rental meeting

Renting a vacation home is being increasingly popular in South Lake Tahoe just as in other communities. Many tourists prefer to rent a VHR instead of a traditional motel or hotel room. There are many reasons from enjoying time with family to reunions and wedding parties.
Douglas County businesses receive Spotlight Awards

The Spotlight Awards recognize businesses in seven different categories: Retail, Restaurant, Manufacturing and Production, Sports and Recreation, Entrepreneur, Business and Professional Service, and Tourism and Hospitality.
The ceremony was held the County’s Financial State of the County event on Thursday, June 11.

During times of drought, homeowners turn to water conservation not only in their daily habits but in their gardens as well.
There is even a word for this: xeriscape. The definition of xeriscape is landscaping and gardening that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water from irrigation.
The Tahoe Resource Conservation District is hold a free workshop on xeriscping on Wednesday, June 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the South Tahoe Public Utility District.
Give input on the future of Regan Beach

In August of 2014, the City of South Lake Tahoe invited community members to take part in planning the future of Regan Beach.
Since then, the City has received completed surveys, analyzed them and hired Design Workshop to create a conceptual design for $98,836.
Now, its time for the public to weigh in on that design.
The Regan Beach community outreach meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the gym of the SLT Recreation and Swim Complex.

City staff and locals help kick off the Tahoe Bike Challenge

Pearl Izumi at the Y hosted the "Ready, Set, Pedal" party with swag bags, food and special discounts. Riders gathered at the store and started on either a 5 mile or a 10 mile loop.
