SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society have teamed together once again for the 3rd annual Festival of Winter Lights on Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. nightly. The museum and its bookstore will be holding its Holiday in History during the festival and will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
This outdoor holiday market-style event will be held in the parking lot of the Lake Tahoe Historical Museum at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe start campaign to build new accessible playground
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/27/2023 - 8:21pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe has announced the launch of a $350,000 community playground campaign, “Let the Kids Play,” to upgrade the Al Tahoe playground.
The current Al Tahoe playground is over 25 years old, having been built in the late 1990s for Al Tahoe Elementary School and the community surrounding it. Since the elementary school closed in 2004, there have been no upgrades or improvements to the neglected playground, resulting in many areas now being boarded up, decrepit, and unsuitable for play.
Tahoe Fund announces popular personalized bears for North Lake Tahoe to raise funds for trails

Founded as a non-profit in 1994, each year Tahoe Magic has assisted hundreds of families with children experiencing a financial crisis, with financial assistance. Tahoe Magic achieved this because we truly have a community that cares about each other.

There will be hot cocoa, popcorn, a photo opportunity with Santa, and music. Santa will be dropped off by CalStar (weather permitting), and the beautiful Meyers tree will be lit up with more lights than ever before!

Tree lighting at Heavenly Village brings out the crowds, fireworks, and Santa Claus
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/25/2023 - 5:13pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The official lighting of the Christmas tree at Heavenly Village on Friday brought out the crowds to watch Santa Claus arrive as the tree was lit amidst fireworks, entertainment, and speeches from some elected officials.
Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in grand style aboard the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue ladder truck. Their arrival captivated the audience, setting the tone for an evening full of holiday cheer and community spirit. The Clauses made their way to the stage, greeted by the excited cheers of the whole crowd, young and old.

About 80 people, young and old, made the walk from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District parking lot to Champion’s Plaza. At the plaza, Mayor Cristi Creegan and others spoke about what it meant that the community was taking a stand against hate.

Rabbi Jeffrey Glickman and his wife Mindy of South Windsor, Conn. have been traveling the country, meeting other Jewish communities along the way.
They stopped by to visit with Rabbi Evon Yakar and the youth of the temple, connecting them to the larger Jewish community, and giving them a special gift - a Ner Tamid medal.

After a three-year hiatus, the event was an overwhelming success, raising funds for our community. Funds raised during this event are allocated to scholarships to students from local high schools and Lake Tahoe Community College and grants to local nonprofit organizations that enrich the lives of women and children in our community.

Mayor: Join the community at Unity Walk to stand together against hate

When I first heard about this statewide effort, I felt very strongly that having a public and explicit expression of our values of compassion and inclusivity would resonate in this moment. I brought this idea to our City Manager Joe Irvin, who enthusiastically encouraged me to plan it with assistance from staff.
Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature team up to gift 63 Kindles to Sierra House 2nd graders

Students dressed for the occasion as the Marcella Foundation and Lift Literature joined forces to celebrate reading through their BookMode program. Each second grader received a free Kindle Paperwhite and Bluetooth headset to help create a passion for the joy of reading.
Through this joint initiative, BookMode, the organizations aim to cultivate a lifelong passion for learning.

With the announcement that Liberty is working on the area of South Lake Tahoe where St. Theresa Church is located, Bread and Broth wants the community to know its annual Thanksgiving Dinner will still take place.
The planned power outage may affect the church, but Bread and Broth will have a generator in place so they can provide dinner to the expected 200 people attending.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the community is invited to the anniversary party which is in the senior center at the Museum Complex, 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Ben Fagen Designs wins annual Day in Paradise Duck Races

The event, held along the Truckee River in Tahoe Paradise Park, raises money to help the Optimists with their local youth projects. They will also be opening their Christmas Tree lot in South Lake Tahoe after Thanksgiving.
Ben Fagen of Ben Fagen Designs and his associate, architect Natalia Wieczorek, chose Tahoe Magic as the recipient of the $1,000 winnings. Tahoe Magic is a local non-profit that helps families in need when they need it most.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Latino community is invited to the next College Bound/En Camino al Colegio informational meeting on pathways to college. At South Tahoe High, just six percent of Latino students graduate with enough completed units with a C or better in the A-G class requirements, and this meeting is being held to help parents navigate through the requirements of college-bound students. Forty-two percent of the overall population at STHS has the classes needed for California colleges and universities.

Last year they were able to collect over 2,000 pairs and are looking to put new socks on even more children this year.

Sierra State Parks Foundation hosting virtual auction with unique items for access for all programs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan and other community leaders, residents, businesses, agencies, and organizations for a unity walk on November 16 to honor United Against Hate Week.
United Against Hate Week, which is recognized from November 12-18, is a call for local civic action to stop the hate and biases that pose a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns, and cities. Across the state, 100’s of cities and organizations are also taking a stand against hate by coming together throughout the week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Smaine Fund is holding a fundraising event at The Hangar on Friday, November 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be live music, raffle prizes, and a Teton Gravity Research (TGR) film premiere.
Funds will go to the Smaine Fund which is dedicated to supporting initiatives that make a positive impact on athletes, and participation in this event will directly contribute to those efforts.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Learn more about collective giving and the Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) at a wine social on Tuesday, November 7 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Idel Hour in South Lake Tahoe
Join them for a glass of wine and learn more about TWCF. Bring a friend and help the nonprofit build its membership. they have a goal to get enough sponsors and members so they can give out at least $100,000 in grants in Spring 2024.
It's a great time to just catch up with like-minded folks about philanthropy.
Tom Millham to receive DAR Medal of Honor

This is the most prestigious honor awarded by the DAR and given to individuals who are United States citizens by birth and who have shown extraordinary qualities of leadership, trustworthiness, service, and patriotism.
The recipients must have made unusual and lasting contributions to our American Heritage by truly giving of themselves to their community, state, country, and fellowmen.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though the Attic has been closed up for months, the Barton Auxiliary will reopen it for one day only as they hold a Holiday Faire in the spot on Sunday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Not only will there be Christmas decor, winter, and holiday clothing, sporting items, and the perfect white elephant gift, but there will also be the famous cheeseballs for sale.
Stop by and look for your holiday goodies at the former Attic Thrift Store location, 970 Lodi Ave., South Lake Tahoe.
American Legion gifted new snowblower by Alpine Smith after burglary

The first call came from Christina Bicker who offered to donate money to a new one, and if the Legion needed more, she'd buy them the snowblower.
