Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team arrest alleged drug traffickers

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), in conjunction with the Tri-Net Task Force and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, arrested the men in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Store on Grant Avenue in Gardnerville. The arrests were the culmination of a short investigation into the drug trafficking activities of David Wright, a 56-year-old male from the southern California area.

Tony Romo rolled in a clutch five-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to outgun Joe Pavelski and Mark Mulder and capture his third American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament title Sunday.
It was the first time in the tournament's history to have a three-way tie at the end of 54 holes, and the fifth playoff.

The hotter temperatures will bring increased chances for thunderstorms starting Tuesday afternoon into the end of the week, but the highest chances are south of Lake Tahoe. A few afternoon thunderstorms are possible from Tuesday into Saturday with low chances for very localized rain. The primary concerns will be lightning and gusty winds.
Expect smoke from Washburn Fire over Lake Tahoe again Sunday

The AQI this morning is 151 in some recording spots in South Lake Tahoe but most of the town is in the "unhealthy for sensitive group" range. For up-to-the-minute AQI from wildfires, visit https://fire.airnow.gov/. During the day, the winds at the fire area will move the fire to a more northwesterly direction towards Sacramento before it moved over Lake Tahoe.
Caltrans traffic alert: Lane and ramp closures ahead for improvement projects in Truckee

Between 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10 and 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, the I-80 eastbound #2 (right) lane will be closed around the clock between Donner Pass Road/Cold Stream Road and the SR-89 south separation. Construction crews will be grinding and repaving the eastbound chain installation/removal area on the shoulder.

Smoke from Washburn Fire in Yosemite made way to Lake Tahoe/Carson Valley areas
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/08/2022 - 7:38pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 466-acre Washburn Fire near Yosemite has been pushing smoke to the north all day, with the Carson Valley now seeing heavy amounts of the smoke. There is also some smoke flowing into the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said the smoke heading to Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley can now be seen on satellite
They said to expect smoke to settle in overnight, leaving a smokey smell on Saturday morning. The winds expected in the afternoon should blow it out of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Thousands watch biggest South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade ever - winners announced

They were met with waves and cheers along the parade route as thousands of people lined the streets, many in their red, white, and blue clothing, flags, hats, and other patriotic displays.
The scores have been tallied for the inaugural Best of the Parade Awards, and the winners are:

Small fire at Tahoe Paradise Park quickly extinguished
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 8:46pmMEYERS, Calif. - Fire personnel responded to a call of a fire at Tahoe Paradise Park Thursday evening at 5:51 p.m. The fire was in a downed timber area between the disc golf course and the old basketball court at the park.
Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded first, followed immediately by CalFIRE. The first was put out quickly and ended up being 20' x 20', according to LVFPD Battalion Chief Perry Quinn.
Since the fire was determined to be on State land, so CalFIRE is the lead agency. They were on scene until about 8 p.m. and finished mopping up the scene.
Arrest made after woman admits to setting Truckee fire
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 12:01pmUPDATE 5:45PM - As a result of a coordinated investigation involving Truckee Police and Cal Fire personnel, the cause of this afternoon's wildland fire was determined to have been human-caused. A female suspect was taken into custody after evidence was obtained indicating she was responsible for setting several spot fires which resulted in the bigger fire Thursday that led to evacuations.
She later admitted to investigators of having set the fires intentionally.

The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. At the end of the pursuit, Jean Anthony Henderson-Hamilton, a 37-year-old male from Sparks, Nevada, and Deanna Kaye Douglas, a 49-year-old female from Fallon, Nevada were arrested. Henderson-Hamilton and Douglas had a number of stolen catalytic converters in their vehicle.

Massive numbers of July 4th partiers at Zephyr Shoals, leaving trash and waste behind
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 4:06pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - A massive number of young adults filled the beach at the site of the old Dreyfus Estate just north of the Zephyr Cove Resort on July 4, leaving behind massive amounts of trash and the beginning of plans on what to do before the situation gets out of hand. Without any restrooms at the site, one can imagine what else was left at what has become an uncontrolled party spot for hundreds of people, most in the 21-25-year-old range.
Electra Fire is 4,478 acres and firefighters have it 70% contained

Firefighters are working to create and reinforce containment lines. Established control lines continue to hold and mop up and patrol will continue while suppression repair strategy is implemented.
The fire has burned 4,478 acres and is 70 percent contained. Many of the evacuated residents have been allowed back into their homes and some road closures remain.

Volunteers and organizations team up to remove 3,450 pounds of litter from Lake Tahoe beaches

In total, the litter-fighting teams removed 3,450 pounds of trash from the environment – litter that would have found its way into the Lake’s blue waters if it wasn’t collected by event participants.
Quick fire response to fire caused by illegal fireworks at Cave Rock

Just after the big South Shore fireworks show, Lights on the Lake, got underway, a group at Cave Rock started its own show with consumer fireworks, firing off shells into the sky. A fire started and everyone involved with the illegal fireworks show fled the area.
South Lake Tahoe domestic violence suspect arrested on several charges

According to police, Dylan Puleri, 29, was identified as the suspect and was reportedly armed with a non-serialized “ghost” AR-15 rifle. Puleri had left the scene of the domestic violence incident and his whereabouts were unknown.
Fire near Cave Rock shuts down all lanes of US50 Monday night
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/04/2022 - 8:54pmUPDATE 10:47PM: According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Small wild land fire near Cave Rock boat landing is under control but currently Highway 50 is closed in both directions while Tahoe Douglas Fire finishes with the cleanup.
BREAKING NEWS: A fire has been reported near Cave Rock tonight and all lanes of US-50 are now closed in the area.
Please stay away so fire resources can get to the scene.

Electra Fire in Amador County now at 3800 acres, 5% contained

Firefighters have been able to gain a 5 percent control line on the fire that is burning in dry grass near Electra Rd and Hwy 49 near the Amador and Calaveras county lines, outheast of Jackson in Amador County.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lake Tahoe should expect some haze again on Tuesday from the fire.

Power outage from the Tahoe Keys to western end of Pioneer Trail

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over 4,500 Liberty Utilities customers in South Lake Tahoe are experiencing a power outage that occurred Sunday early in the afternoon.
Crews are working to restore power. The Liberty website estimates restoral of power around 4;13 p.m.
Many stores are closed due to lack of power so call ahead if going out.
Military flyover right above Lakeview Commons starts the 4th of July parade

There are over 60 entries and over 200 people taking part in the parade which runs along US-50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. from Ski Run Blvd. to Bijou Community Park.
The theme of the parade is "Tahoe Strong: A salute to our heroes."
To start things off at 10 a.m. on Monday, there will be a military flyover right above Lakeview Commons courtesy of the Nevada Air National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing "High Rollers."

Dangerous algae bloom detected at Indian Creek Reservoir

The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and South Tahoe Public Utility District and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining that there are levels of toxin associated with blooms of blue-green algae in multiple lakes in Alpine County that are toxic to animals and humans.

Body of missing backpacker found in Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe

On June 28, 2022, at about 1:40 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a report of a tent that had been abandoned and blown over near Lake Aloha, southwest of Lake Tahoe. The reporting party said they were concerned due to the condition of the tent and personal belongings that were at the campsite. The items found included a USFS Wilderness Permit, and a driver’s license belonging to Jia Huang.

South Lake Tahoe celebrates 4th of July with parade and military flyover
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/29/2022 - 9:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe is celebrating Independence Day with its July 4th parade along US-50/Lake Tahoe Boulevard between Ski Run Blvd. and Al Tahoe Blvd.
The parade gets underway at 10 a.m. with an honorary military flyover over Lakeview Commons, courtesy of the Nevada National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing “High Rollers.”
The theme of the parade is honoring heroes. It will finish at Bijou Community Park on Al Tahoe.
Wildlife Wednesdays start at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for its first Wildlife Wednesday of the season on July 6. This week will be "Introduction to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care and Ambassador Animals Meet & Greet."
LTWC team members will host a 1-hour presentation and Q&A at Lake Tahoe Wildlife's Tahoe Fund Outdoor Learning Center on Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. This all-ages event is free, and donations are appreciated (suggested donation: $10 for an individual or $25 for a family).
