The vaccine gained approval by a panel of 22 experts on Thursday by a vote of 17-4 in favor of recommending the FDA give it the green light (one panelist abstained).

This includes the approximate 200 positive cases that needed to be assigned to a region. Of those, 40 are in El Dorado Hills, 14 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, 18 in Greater Placerville, 7 in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, 5in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, 4 in North County, 2 in South County, 6 in Lake Tahoe region. There are 3 of the new cases awaiting address confirmation, and the pending address confirmation count is now 93.

Each year the SISLT club president chooses a "President's Project" to complete during their year of service. This year, Club President Louisa Boone decided her project would be to make Christmas Stockings for the 50 women and 10 men the agency serves. Stockings were filled with beanies, socks, teas, gift cards for the men, beauty supplies and jewelry for the ladies.

A series of systems through the weekend will break down the persistent dry pattern, with the first bringing increased winds late Thursday afternoon into Thursday night with fire danger concerns for portions of Mono County. Rain and snow chances arrive Friday night and Saturday with a second round Sunday. Another period of gusty winds is looking likely for Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Reno.

The Sacramento Region, of which South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County are part of, has dropped below 15 percent availability in the ICUs across the region, prompting the new order. More than thirty million people in California now fall under the order after a deadly surge of the coronavirus has crossed the state.

The order has gone into effect because the Sacramento Region, of which South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado and Alpine counties are part, now has staffed ICU bed availability under 15 percent.

Christmas Cheer, the South Lake Tahoe nonprofit that helps feed locals in need all year was also in need of toys to help bring joy during such trying times. Tom Davis of Christmas Cheer joined up with Murin and other community members to organize the event which brought toys from far and wide to Lake Tahoe on December 6.

South Shore Transportation Management Association reactivated with new website, new focus

It was formed originally in 1994 after a study was conducted to determine the most effective way to engage the private sector in transportation on the South Shore. Over the years its focus moved from the development of the Nifty Fifty trolley system to transportation initiatives and the formation of the Tahoe Transportation District.

There is a Lake Wind Advisory in place for the beginning of the workweek, with winds from the east reaching up to 40 mph on the lake and peak Sierra crest gusts of 70-100 mph with gusts 40-65 mph for higher ridges east of the crest.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/06/2020 - 10:54pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe from midnight to 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 7.
Expect east winds on the lake 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Expect waves on the west shore to be the highest, from 2-4 feet. Winds onshore in South Lake Tahoe should be up to 10 mph.
Small boats, kayaks and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

These three words beginning the filming of any movie and they've been heard quite a bit recently around the Lake Tahoe and the Carson City area. The beautiful scenery the area provides has been the prefect holiday backdrop for romantic Christmas movies this season.
"Feliz NaviDAD," "Dear Christmas," and "Once Upon a Main Street," were all filmed in the area this year, following last year's "Christmas Reservations" and years of Hollywood movie hits.

The severity and duration of his addiction to alcohol was almost entirely hidden from his friends and family. He passed just hours before family intended to bring him to a medical detoxification facility.

Police investigating fatal crash in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 700 block of Emerald Bay Road on Friday afternoon at 3:51 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle resting upside down on the road in front of Burger Lounge.

South Lake Tahoe City Clerk earns Certified Municipal Clerk designation

The Golden Sparky Award is the State of Nevada’s highest award for outstanding achievement in fire prevention and fire safety education for fire service personnel.
Guevin has served as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Education Network Representative for the State of Nevada. In this capacity, Eric became a vital liaison between the FPAN, the Fire Safety Educators of Nevada, and NFPA.

Dragonfly Bagel Co. is a small batch bakery specializing in bagels. They have been operating as a pop-up for the last three years in South Lake and have recently opened their own permanent location.
Dragonfly Bagel Co. is open every day except Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Their bagels, breads, and pastries are made by hand and from scratch. They are incredibly passionate about their baked goods and love the local community.

Ring in the holiday season with the Meyers Community Foundation and enjoy their virtual tree lighting celebration on Friday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m.
To comply with COVID-19 safety precautions they moved the annual tradition to Facebook. It can be watched live here - www.facebook.com/MeyersCommunity/live.
The Virtual Meyers Community Tree Lighting Celebration will feature comedian and radio show host Howie Nave doing the annual countdown to light the very special tree. Lake Valley Fire District will join in and illuminate the holiday spirit.
El Dorado County reactivates its Emergency Operations Center

County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in response to the increase in COVID-19 cases and its impact on County hospitals. It includes personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, County Public Health department and the County’s Chief Administrative Office.

Our community, like all communities has been hard hit with lost income, closed businesses, stay at home orders, COVID and virtually learning at home. We have missed socializing, travelling, entertaining and being entertained, enjoying our extended family and cannot even see a friend’s smile behind their mask. We missed so much of 2020 and it has hurt, to be honest.
