COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado Public Health is working to reduce the backlog in positive results from the weekend and believes that the case count published today, 12/7/2020, is an undercount of at least 150 cases. The state database shows the weekend new case count could much higher. Each day we post the figures released by El Dorado County health officials,

On Monday they reported another 60 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday. Of those, 8 are in El Dorado Hills, 11 in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, 3 in Greater Placerville, -1 in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, 5 in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, 2 in North County, 0 in South County, 28 in Lake Tahoe region. There are four of the new cases awaiting address confirmation, and the pending address confirmation count is now 12.

One of those new cases, 14 are under the age of 18, 27 are aged 18-49, 7 are aged 50-64, and 12 aged 65 or older.

Another 1317 people were tested for the coronavirus and 1257 negative tests results were received.

There have been another 141 assumed recoveries with 916 assumed active cases.

There are currently 18 COVID-19 patients hospitalized with eight of them in the ICU and two suspected cases hospitalized at Barton. According to the state's website, six of those hospitalized are at Barton Health and the remaining 12 at Marshall Hospital. According to that website, six of those in the ICU are in Marshall, two in Barton.

To date, eight county residents have died from COVID-19.

The county moved into the purple tier November 17.

The County dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified abou.t the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates: (symptom onset date, diagnosis date, specimen collection date, date received, or date of death) and serves as the best approximation of the date of infection.

The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 9.2 percent positivity and the 14-day rate of new cases is 437 (these figures do not include today's data).

Health equity quartile positivity rate: 14.5%

The whole county is currently in the High Tier (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100). To move down to the Moderate Tier (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99). The Low Tier is 25 or less per 100,000 for last 14 days.

County-wide there have been 2,882 cases with 1034 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

We are reporting two additional deaths due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region on Monday. The individuals were:
• A male Carson City resident in his 90’s
• A male Lyon County resident in his 70’s

We are also reporting 565 new cases and 61 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region since Friday. This brings the total number of cases to 6,018, with 3,080 recoveries and 58 deaths; 2,880 cases remain active.

In Carson City there are currently 59 (+4) people hospitalized with 9 (+0) of them in the ICU. There is 6 suspected cases of COVID-19 in the hospital. 104 percent of ICU beds are currently occupied.

In Douglas County there are currently 7 (+0) people hospitalized with COVID-19 with 2 (-1) of them in the ICU along with no suspected cases. 75 percent of ICU beds are occupied.

Washoe County

The Regional Information Center is reporting 1315 new COVID-19 cases and 15 new deaths in Washoe County since Friday.

There have been 1069 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Placer County since Friday.

Lake Tahoe area cases - 79 (+7) are in Tahoe City, 189 (+7) in Kings Beach, 26 (+1) in Olympic Valley, 46 (+3) in Truckee, 23 (+3) in Carnelian Bay.

Their seven-day test rate is 10.6 percent positive, and average daily case rate for last 7 days is 29.9 per 100,000. Seven-day increase is 19.7 percent, 14-day increase is 29.8 percent.
