There is no cost to attend, but space is limited. The "Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy" will be held Tuesday, September 5 through Friday, September 8 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Class location is the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, located at 1038 Buckeye Road, Minden, Nevada. This academy is open to Douglas County residents.

Hilary officially made landfall in northern Baja California as a Tropical Storm with sustained winds of 65 mph.
As the rain and thunderstorms make their way out, the remainder of the week will see temperatures gradually warm, and daily chances of showers start to weed themselves out.

The hurricane is making landfall along the northwestern portion of Baja California. While this system will rapidly weaken by the time it reaches Nevada, significant amounts of moisture will bring periods of heavy rainfall to the region according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

El Dorado County sees first positive test for West Nile Virus in a human this year

West Nile virus activity has been detected in 26 humans in 12 California counties. El Dorado County announced the first bird-positive case this year on August 2, 2023.

With over 28 years in the public sector, Hughes brings a strong financial background to the position.
“The Board interviewed great candidates and unanimously selected Paul Hughes,” said STPUD Board President David Peterson. “He is an outstanding leader, outstanding fiscal manager, and outstanding problem solver.”

Enhanced fire restrictions for Lake Tahoe Basin

Enhanced fire restrictions mean wood and charcoal fires are now prohibited in Blackwood Canyon, Luther Pass, and Watson Lake campgrounds. Portable stoves are allowed with a valid permit.

The City’s Police Department is tasked with the enforcement of traffic laws within the City limits. Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have announced their planned opening dates for the upcoming 2023-2024 ski and ride season. Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/15/2023 - 7:46pmMaking it the largest tournament in its 39 years, 289 players from seven states recently participated in the annual Hersh Herschman Memorial Tahoe Classic at Zephyr Cove Park. The four-day annual event ended on August 6 bringing even more people to our area for the fun tennis competition.
The tournament is the biggest fundraiser for the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club Foundation (ZCTCF). The money raised from the event, including a silent auction and raffle, will help to continue to provide the only organized recreational tennis, with a growing kids program, on the South Shore.
U.S. Flag Retirement Bin placed at Grocery Outlet in South Lake Tahoe

Many people proudly display an American flag at their homes or businesses but what is supposed to be done with the flag when it becomes worn and in poor condition? It should be retired during an official ceremony like the one in South Lake Tahoe at the American Legion's annual Flag Day Ceremony.

Making the US50/SR28 intersection safer is part of NDOT's Lake Tahoe plan

Many are calling for a safer intersection in order to prevent more tragic crashes and further loss of life.
President Joe Biden heading to Lake Tahoe Friday

The White House confirmed Monday that the President will arrive on August 18 and is scheduled to depart Thursday, August 24.
It has not been disclosed if the visit is for a vacation, business, or for a fundraising event. As of Monday, there are no public events scheduled.

Regan. This was originally published in the Boston Globe. It has been two years since the Caldor Fire started in Grizzly Flats before it burned 221,835 acres.
The map of the Caldor Fire looked like an angry earwig, its red pincers closing around the exact location of my summer cabin on Strawberry Creek near Lake Tahoe, CA. I gave my retirement dream no more than a ten percent chance of surviving the next forty-eight hours.
Three South Lake Tahoe brandishing cases over the weekend

Two men from Alameda, Calif. were arrested Saturday in South Lake Tahoe after allegedly pointing a gun at another driver during what is being called a road rage incident.

The person is a male in his 60s who has been hospitalized after being exposed to rodent droppings weeks prior. There is no update on the person’s condition and the investigation is ongoing.
This is the first Hantavirus case reported in Washoe County since November 2022. The last Hantavirus death was reported in December 2020.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/13/2023 - 6:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Low pressure along the California coastline will remain a fixture in the overall pattern through the upcoming week in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Northern Nevada. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno says to plan on daily chances for showers and thunderstorms for the Sierra and parts of western Nevada this week, especially on Monday. Temperatures will remain warm through the week with some cooling possible by next weekend. The weekend also shows the possibility of continued thunderstorms.
