The District and their partners in education and supporters of district-wide programs and enrichment, the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation, hosted a beach-party theme celebration of the 12 staff members who have served a combined 273 years at LTUSD and in education.
Laine, Curtzwiler leading at last count for El Dorado County Supervisor District 5

They reported that 23,000 ballots still had to be counted on Wednesday morning, and that number is down to about 1,000 plus any ballots that were mailed in by Tuesday that hadn't been delivered yet.
El Dorado County Registrar Bill O'Neill said there are about 800 mail-in ballots left to count, and an estimated 200 provisional and conditional voter registrations (CVR) in that approximate 1,000 left to count on Monday.
NDOT SR 431-28 Tahoe Project construction updates

No matter which work zone, drivers can expect up to 30-minute delays at each one.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is seeking community input on the environmental review of the Meeks Bay Restoration Project.
The LTBMU, in conjunction with Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, is developing a plan to restore Meeks Creek to a more natural condition while continuing to support sustainable recreation opportunities.

The El Dorado National Forest Interpretive Association (ENFIA) invites the public to join docent Rita Borselli for a “Water Color Hike and Class” at Carson Pass on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m.
Participants will walk 1.25 miles to Frog Lake over a fairly level trail, where the instruction will take place. Rita and ENFIA will provide the supplies and materials but participants must carry them to the site. The class will focus on beginner and intermediate painters. The 3-hour hike and class is free and open to the public.

Learn how to identify Tahoe's various native and invasive aquatic plants, and how to report observations that allow the League and our partners to control new populations of aquatic invaders before they do lasting damage to Lake Tahoe.
Tahoe Boat Inspections will be co-hosting the training. They will help attendees identify and understand the impacts of aquatic invasive mussels. They will also provide training to become a certified Tahoe Keeper.

Driver hauling large boat in deadly south Carson City crash pleads guilty

UPDATE 9:00 a.m. Wednesday: There has been an update to the percentages candidates received from the vote count due to the largest number of unqualified write-in votes Registrar of Voters Bill O'Neill has ever seen in El Dorado County. Since there were no qualified write-in candidates, the 4,500 with a write-in became no-votes, and ballots were re-tabulated.

Typically the prescribed burning of forests start in the fall when conditions are favorable with moisture on the ground and lower temperatures. As long as the prescription requirements can be met, fire will be added to the forest until spring.
NDOT employees struck while working on US395, 4 days after Caltrans worker killed on I-80
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/07/2022 - 4:55pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Three Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) survey employees were struck and injured by a passing motorist on US-395 near Topsy Lane while conducting road survey work for a future highway resurfacing project.
Two of the NDOT staff members were reviewing work plans on the roadway shoulder when struck, while another team member was struck while inside a work vehicle.
According to the Nevada State Police, two of the NDOT team members were taken by emergency services to an area hospital. Both were reported to be in stable condition.

South Lake Tahoe to get painted crosswalk to celebrate Pride Month

Council evaluated a few different locations:
1. The U.S. 50 and Lakeview Ave. – West leg crossing on Lakeview. This intersection is within Caltrans jurisdiction and an Encroachment Permit and approval from Caltrans would be required.
2. Ski Run Boulevard at Tamarack Ave – East leg crossing Ski Run Blvd. This
A sign of change on the South Shore
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/07/2022 - 10:26amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Bally's Corporation may have completed the purchase of Montbleu Resort & Spa from Caesars Entertainment back in April of 2021, the visible signage now reflects that change.
Crews were out at the Stateline, Nevada casino Tuesday to add the "Bally's" to the front of the property that has previously had the names of Park Tahoe and Caesars Tahoe, prior to Montbleu. The casino originally opened in 1978 with a hotel and showroom opening after Caesars Tahoe came in a year later.

The mid-size (though it's quite big) sedan from South Korean brand Genesis, the luxury arm of Hyundai. This G80 Sport now has the potent 3.5L twin-turbo V6 under the hood with all-wheel drive. Should be pretty capable, no? Not to mention quite good considering how fond I was of the entry four-cylinder model a year prior.

Rocky was born on April 10, 1937, to Antone and Dorothy Duarte, in San Francisco, California. Rocky and his three brothers and two sisters spent their childhood in Pescadero, California, where he met his future wife, Yvonne. He attended Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo. When he graduated from high school, Rocky spent several years working for Pacific Telephone Company.

When the Calder fire roared up the canyon, Brooke and a neighbor didn't wait for help. They cleared 85 bags of duff from the forest floor and built a firebreak the length of six cabins. No one else was doing it, so they did.

The significant warmup of the summer season arrives by midweek, with temperatures rising to 15 degrees above normal by the end of the week.

Counties in California are assigned the job of providing mental health services by the State of California. It probably comes as no surprise that most of the office staff and mental health workers live and work in Placerville. Yet we are the largest city in the entire county.
Lake Wind Advisory at Lake Tahoe through Sunday, 60% chance of rain

Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Waves on the lake will be 2 to 4 feet.
Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/03/2022 - 5:29pmThe Lake Valley Fire Protection District, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, and North Lake Tahoe Fire District have all implemented 2022 fire restrictions in line with those previously announced by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, Meeks Bay Fire, and North Tahoe Fire. This means, as of June 1, almost all fire protection districts around the lake are on the same page when it comes to what is, and isn't, allowed where outdoor fires and barbeques are concerned.
Runners with Reno-Tahoe Odyssey 2022 heading through South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/03/2022 - 4:59pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two-hundred-forty-two teams took off from Reno today on the annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay. The relay teams go 24/7 until ending back in Reno on Saturday.
Runners will be seen this evening through the South Shore.
The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey course is like no other, given the combination of natural scenery, world-class attractions, and historical points of interest. It is a physical and mental challenge for all runners, yet at the same time, it’s a fair course.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 73rd annual fun of the Historic Wagon Trail kicks off on the South Shore this Sunday, but the Lake Tahoe Historical Society (LTHS) has created an event for Saturday to celebrate the western history of the region.
Rattlesnakes not as uncommon as they once were around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/02/2022 - 7:12pmPrior to 2015, rattlesnakes were not seen in the Lake Tahoe Basin. It was that year when a large rattlesnake from underneath the porch of a home in the Bijou neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe.
"That was the first documented rattlesnake within the Lake Tahoe Basin that we, or anyone in the Tahoe Biologist Interagency Group, are aware of," said Dr. Will Richardson said at the time in a story he wrote.
Richardson is the executive director of the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS).
