The new location is newer, with large windows, and plenty of space for processing ballots, and it provides an easy way for the public to watch the tabulation of ballots.

As I write this letter of gratitude, we want to thank so many people. First, we must thank our County Supervisor, Brooke Laine, for her enduring tenacity every year in ensuring we have golf carts and security for our parade. Jeanette Riva, thank you for reaching out to the community and getting our convertible cars for our royalty and for our admin to ride in for our parade. Without these two women, we would be overwhelmed and South Tahoe High School (STHS) would be unable to have such a successful parade. Thank you both so much.

Seed collecting
By Tressa Gibbard, Sugar Pine Foundation
For the Sugar Pine Foundation (SPF) this September was incredibly busy with seed collection because 2024 proved to be a mast year for sugar pines and most conifers in the Tahoe region. This is significant because reforestation starts with collecting seeds.
A “mast year” is when an entire population of a certain tree or shrub produces a large amount of fruit, seeds, or nuts, which are collectively referred to as mast. (The term "mast" comes from the Old English word mæst, which refers to the nuts of forest trees that accumulate on the ground.)

Keep Tahoe Blue
STATELINE, Nev. – Meadows, marshes, and wetlands are Lake Tahoe’s natural filtration system – so long as they’re healthy. They slow down flowing water, causing clarity-degrading particles to settle out before they reach the Lake, which keeps Tahoe’s waters clear and pure. Since 1997, annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Days events hosted by the League to Save Lake Tahoe (League) have invited the community to take part in restoring this natural filtration system.

Letter to the Editor: The distortion of my words by Councilmember Robbins
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/02/2024 - 4:30amAt the September 24, 2024, City Council meeting, I was surprised to hear Councilmember Scott Robbins take a social media comment I made out of context to push his political agenda. This incident is emblematic of his ongoing efforts to mislead the community for personal gain, a tactic frequently supported by the South Lake Tahoe Democratic Club. His misappropriation of my words is just one example of how he distorts facts to advance his agenda.

Letter: Why I endorse Measure U
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/01/2024 - 8:05pmI endorse Measure U as a local business owner of Mind/Body Fitness, a member of Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, and the LTUSD Facilities Planning Advisory Committee. I have no children in the local public schools but believe voting YES to fund aging classrooms and facilities is an investment in the overall health of our community and a moral imperative to protect children. Complaining does not create change. Progress needs action and financial support.
