Those driving over the Sierra after the holiday should check the weather and road conditions but it looks like all will be clear through Sunday.
Man arrested after getting stolen vehicle stuck in snow at Lake Tahoe, calls 9-1-1
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/23/2022 - 9:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 34-year-old man allegedly stole a car outside of the area, then brought it to Lake Tahoe only to get stuck in the snow. He then called 9-1-1 on himself.
Angelo Valdez brought the vehicle to the South Shore and ended up on Nicoleno Road in the Spring Creek Tract. At approximately 9 a.m. on Friday, November 18, he called emergency dispatch. Due to the suspicious nature of the call, deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded. Upon arrival, they found Valdez seated in the vehicle and would not get out.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Christmas Engine schedule
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/23/2022 - 5:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has announced the schedule for its decorated Christmas Engine. They will be starting the anticipated seasonal visit through local streets beginning Saturday, December 10. The decorated engine will be leaving the station each night at 5 p.m. barring any weather issues or emergencies.
People can also see the engine on Dec 9 and 10 at the Festival of Winter Lights at the Recreation Center/Museum Complex.

Sentence of "life without parole" handed down almost 7 years after South Lake Tahoe murder
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/23/2022 - 5:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dion Jermaine Vaccaro heard his fate in El Dorado County Superior Court in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, November 18, 2022. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for 1st-degree murder and the court imposed another 25 years to life because the jury found that he has used a gun to commit the murder. The court also imposed three years for robbery, and two years for witness intimidation.

SLTPD receives $65,000 grant for improving traffic safety
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/22/2022 - 5:35pmThe safety of everyone traveling is the focus of a grant awarded to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) with efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on South Lake Tahoe roads and to improve traffic analysis, reporting, and data collection.
SLTPD sought out the grant to combat recognized traffic issues within the city, including DUI, bicycle, pedestrian, and motorcycle enforcement.
The one-year grant is for the 2023 federal fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023.
The grant will fund a variety of traffic safety programs, including:
Over 200 enjoy Community Thanksgiving Dinner with Bread & Broth

A traditional meal was served, seconds and “to go” dinners were also provided, and food giveaway bags were handed out as well.
Thanks to the South Lake Tahoe community, Bread & Broth received over $6,000 in cash donations for the dinners and food bags, and Smart & Final provided pies, Hard Rock Hotel Casino provided rolls and utensils, and Safeway gave the non-profit gift certificate to help with the purchase food.

Christmas Tree permits available on the Stanislaus National Forest

In celebration of this event, this year only, Christmas Tree permits will be made available for free. Christmas Tree permits will be available Friday, November 25 through recreation.gov which charges a $2.50 processing fee. There will be a limit of 5000 permits issued.

El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini retires after 28 years

D'Agostini is a 4th generation resident of El Dorado County. He was working in construction as a general contractor and raising turkeys on the family ranch for Foster Farms before turning to a career in law enforcement. They raised 50,000 turkeys a year but found it tough to compete with the large turkey farms that put out numbers closer to one million of the birds.
LTCC Girls' Soccer heads to Sierra College for 3rd round playoff game

With their 10-0 league and 15-5-2 overall records, the LTCC Coyotes were able to sit out the first round of playoffs and were scheduled to host the 11th-seed Canada College (15-4) of Redwood City this past Saturday in South Lake Tahoe.

Otherwise, dry conditions will remain through most of the upcoming week. Barton Memorial Hospital awarded 'A' grade for patient safety

The Leapfrog Group uses more than 30 evidence-based measures of publicly available hospital safety data—including data related to medication administration, falls and trauma, and hand hygiene—that are peer-reviewed by a national panel of medical experts to assign grades to more than 2,900 U.S. acute care hospitals. This ‘A’ grade is a result of collaborative, team-driven systems in place at Barton Health that protect patients from harm.
South Lake Tahoe voters approve Measure G to streamline cannabis business fee collection

Measure G – the City of South Lake Tahoe Cannabis Funding/Taxation Measure – was placed on the ballot for local voter consideration, following an audit of government processes that identified the annual cannabis business fee collection process as one which could be streamlined.

What is it?
Toyota's perennial SUV, the 4Runner, in its maximum guise: the TRD Pro. TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, their in-house 'cool' branding department, while the Pro moniker means this is the best of the best, with honors. Bring your family and friends and enjoy some music, desserts, and South of North’s delicious food and drinks. It will be $5 a person which will be going towards the TCH housing and homeless programs. This includes all the supplies and desserts!

El Dorado County election results clearer with about 300 ballots left to count

The next results will be released on Monday, November 21 at 5 p.m. Voter turnout in the county overall was 64.70 percent of the 138,537 registered voters.

Decorating for the holidays is a tradition in homes all over the world but be sure to decorate safely. According to NFPA, almost one-third of home Christmas tree fires are caused by electrical problems and more than two of every five decoration fires happen because decorations are placed too close to a heat source.

Proposed NDOT US-50 Corridor Management plan draws both concern and kudos
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/17/2022 - 11:37pmEveryone who reads the local news knows a large number of collisions occur on US50 between Round Hill and Cave Rock, many of those caused by vehicles crossing over the double yellow center line. Other crashes are caused by the lack of safe turns both off and onto the highway, leading to the stretch of highway being more dangerous than other Nevada highways.
Heavenly Gondola opening for sightseeing trips
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/17/2022 - 7:50pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Gondola at Heavenly Mountain Resort will be back open for sightseeing only starting Friday, November 18. It will be operating from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Guests can purchase their sightseeing tickets at ticket windows, and Epic Pass holders will also have access to scenic Gondola rides for free. Tamarack Lodge and Café Blue will also open for food and beverage as a result of operating the Gondola.
Skiing and riding will not be accessible from the Gondola at this time.

The Bear’s Den is in need of the installation of a new fire life safety alarm system at 2244/2250 Lake Tahoe, and repair and installation of framing, and installation of new drywall, texture, and paint at its 2250 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performs Handel's Messiah this holiday season

The Reno-Tahoe-Truckee and South Tahoe communities continue enjoying the wonderful holiday tradition of Toccata’s Messiah production.
Messiah was first performed in Dublin, Ireland on March 23, 1742, and was conducted by its composer, George Frederic Handel. It continues to be a masterpiece that has left audiences in awe for 277 years.
Community Christmas Tree arrives at Heavenly Village

For seven years, Kenny Curtzwiler of K & K Services has gone in search of the "perfect tree" for the community, normally scouting it out a year or two before it's needed. Many times the tree comes from a forest thinning project, and Kenny asks if it could remain until needed.

Collectively, they’ve surpassed their 2025 interim goal of 50 percent progress toward net-zero three years early and reached 100 percent renewable electricity in North America and 96 percent worldwide.
TRPA opens annual Lake Tahoe mooring lottery on December 1
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/16/2022 - 11:44amLake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. — Entries for new Lake Tahoe moorings (buoys, boat lifts, etc.) can be submitted by lakefront owners to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) starting on December 1, 2022. Annually there is a mooring lottery and the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan. This annual lottery will continue until all allocations allowed under the plan are distributed.
The plan, approved in 2018, places a cap on the total number of moorings and piers allowed in the Tahoe Region and established this annual lottery system to allocate new moorings.
South Lake Tahoe's new recreation center project to be delayed one year after council rejects bids
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/15/2022 - 10:10pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During the South Lake Tahoe City Council's meeting on Tuesday, the council voted to reject all bids for the Recreation and Aquatics Center project in the center of town.
A public bid opening for the second phase of the project was held on October 24, 2022. The City's Public Works department, in coordination with their pre-construction team SierraCon/CORE had estimated the cost of this phase would be approximately $52M.
Laine wins El Dorado County supervisor seat, City Council looking clearer as most votes counted
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/15/2022 - 7:40pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Most ballots have been counted in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County, with 850 left to be tabulated for the whole county. With the trend of votes since the November 8 election, results should not change but the final count on Friday, November 18 will make everything clear.
Brooke Laine is the new supervisor for El Dorado County District V. Any new votes would not change the results as Laine is ahead of Kenny Curtzwiler by 2,111 votes.

TubeTahoe on the South Shore opens for the 2022/23 season on Saturday, November 17. TubeTahoe is the home of winter fun for the whole family in South Lake Tahoe. At over 500 feet in length, machine-groomed tubing lanes are some of the longest in the area. And, our snowmaking facilities allow them to provide resort-quality conditions all season long.
Christmas came early with great snow for tubing. They are even selling gift cards...perfect as that stocking stuffer.
