The public will soon be able to tour the historic Nevada State Prison in Carson City. Opened in 1862, the prison opened on the site of the Warm Springs Hotel even before the territory became a state. The prison's quarry supplied the materials needed to build the State Capitol.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce 2016 Leadership Class will offer the prison tours as a fundraiser from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

With the legalization of gaming in Nevada, the prison allowed inmates to gamble in the Bull Pen, a casino that was set up in 1932 and closed in 1967.

The Heavenly Mountain Resort ski patrol crew will be hosting a free skate night for children with special needs on Friday, April 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena on Rufus Allen Blvd.

They will be offering the positive experience in a social environment they may not have had before by getting the kids on the ice by pushing them in adaptive hockey sleds. After "skating" they will be treated to a pizza party at the rink.

The historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad (V & T) is the most famous of all American Short Line railroads and dubbed the "Queen of the Short Line." Even though construction began on the original tracks and train in 1869, people can still enjoy riding the old steam and diesel trains from Carson City to Virginia City, Nevada.

Rude Brothers, the popular bagel and coffee spot in South Lake Tahoe, was set to close March 27 but will keep its doors open on Harrison Avenue through April.

The building housing South Tahoe Stand-Up Paddle and the bagel shop was sold to local investors in February, 2016. At the moment they are waiting for building permits for the remodeling of the two-story building that will make way for new tenants.

Mountain Resort Television reporter Mikayla Bird reports from the newly renovated Coachman Hotel that is now open for business. The property known formally as the The Green Lantern and the Royal Coachman is under new ownership and has been fully revitalized. A full story can be read here.

A 'Slider' storm is expected to move into the Reno/Lake Tahoe area Sunday night through Monday.

Snow accumulations are likely above 5500 feet and possible down to the lowest valleys including Reno and Carson City and could affect their morning commute on Monday.

Daytime high temperatures will drop around 20 degrees between Sunday and Monday, with freezing temperatures possible overnight on Sunday.

Mountain Resort Television reporter Ashley Lindner visits Fallen Leaf Lake where she interviews Supervisory Recreational Forester, Don Lane about the beautiful, hidden treasure.

Unity at the Lake is presenting an evening with internationally acclaimed singer/songwriters JD Martin & Jan Garrett on Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held at 1195 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

JD Martin is an acclaimed songwriter of five-number one and ten-top ten country and pop hit singles. His songs have been recorded by such luminaries as Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, B.J. Mountain Resort Television reporter Nicole Marsel learns about the Taste of Carson City, and Kyle Horvath gives a construction update on what's happening downtown as it's still hoppin', and there are a LOT of places to feed your taste buds.

Can you imagine dying 4,000 eggs for your family's Easter egg hunt? Probably not as many of us may have had enough after two dozen, but that is exactly what local inmates are tasked with.

Each year, the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club hosts a community egg hunt at Lake Tahoe Community College, and for the last ten years the inmates at the El Dorado County Jail have been coloring the hard boiled eggs for the event.

Normally the kitchen crew at the jail both boils the eggs and colors them, but due to a staffing shortage at the jail they could only color them.

Mountain Resort Television reporter Nicole Marsel shares how, if you're a high school student who's into design, you can design the new "Welcome to Nevada" signs, but you only have a couple more days to submit your design. Lake Tahoe Community College is having open auditions to the community, of all ages, for Cabaret! If you live near Hawthorne you might have felt a couple earthquakes this week, Nicole talks to the UNR Seismological Laboratory Director about the details.

The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to know where you want them to invest their resources when it comes to roads and recreation. There are many needs, as most residents are aware, and the City is going to listen to the public to see where efforts should be concentrated.

"We want to measure community opinions regarding proposed funding solutions for investing in streets, roads, parks and recreation as well as other community priorities," said City Manager Nancy Kerry.

South Lake Tahoe locals and visitors utilizing transit opportunities have seen some recent changes including new buses, lighting, signage and a new scheduling system for those with disabilities and over the age of 60.

The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) responded to input from the public and added the changes.

The El Dorado Savings Bank in Georgetown, Calif., was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown man on Monday, March 21. 2016 at 12:49 p.m.

The suspect is identified as being a white male adult, was wearing blue jeans, blue rain coat and a San Francisco 49ers ball cap. He was armed with a black pistol and seen leaving the area in a red Dodge Durango, most likely a 2004-09 model.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies, detectives and CSI personnel, along with allied law enforcement, responded to the bank and interviewed numerous employees, customers and witnesses.

Elsa is about 3 years old and looking for a home. She was found injured in a snow bank by a motel employee, and was taken to the vet. Elsa is now ready to be adopted!

At an event held at the Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe, five youth from the Challenge Program recently performed for their families, other detained youth at the facility, Juvenile Service Council members and community members.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada Reno reports a series of small aftershocks after a 4.1 earthquake at 3:00 a.m. at Walker Lake, 12 miles northwest of the town of Hawthorne. It was located 6.76 miles under the surface.

This one followed a series of over 100 small earthquakes that surrounded a 4.3 last week and a 3.1 quake on Monday morning.

Since the early morning quake Tuesday there have been seven smaller ones, the largest of which measured 2.8 at the UNR lab.

Ski areas report 13 to 19 inches of new snow on the South Shore, with 3 to 9 inches reported on the North Shore.

Schools in South Lake Tahoe are open today with bus and start times on schedule.

Incline High School is on a two-hour delay.
