DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A parole absconder from Oregon fled from deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) on Tuesday afternoon, crashing into several vehicles before being involved in a deadly crash.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the truck owner and trailer owner and has added more charges to the driver involved in the Nov. 9 multi-vehicle crash that killed a Dayton couple and injured several others at the junction of I-580, South Carson Street, and Highway 50.
The owners of the 2017 Ford F-350 truck are Xiomara Leyva and Alfredo Xiomara Leyva, both listed from Florida. The trailer owner, also out of Florida, is listed as Maria Cruz-Mirete, according to NHP.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - While the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has to give their new district boundary maps to the state before the end of the year, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) has a bit longer.
Every ten years after the federal census, trustee lines for school districts must also be adjusted to ensure that each area contains the same number of
residents.

The Early Learning Center is located on the north side of campus, immediately next to the Child Development Center.

Heavenly and Northstar push back opening dates due to warm weather

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a delay to opening for both Heavenly and Northstar resorts due to recent warm temperatures throughout the region. They had both planned on opening on Friday, November 19.
The resorts will monitor conditions and provide an update on a new target opening date early next week.

City Council to vote on Riverside Avenue affordable housing project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City Council will consider transferring three lots on Riverside Avenue to the St. Joseph Community Land Trust for one dollar so the non-profit can develop three single-family moderate-income affordable housing during a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday night.
The parcels are located at 3141 Riverside Avenue and are currently undeveloped and used for off-street parking by many in the Al Tahoe area.
Lake Valley Firefighters Foundation thanks the community, uses donations to support others

The Lake Valley Firefighters Foundation would like to thank the community, the 646 individuals who donated to their Community Relief Fund, and the "Angel of Tahoe" Ms. Lisa Maloff, Ricky Reich, and the Upper Montgomery Estates neighborhood for donations to the foundation.
Together, $140,000 was raised.
The Foundation is also expressing its gratitude for the hundreds of food and delicious treat donations from families and local caterers.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a windy start to the week, and cooler weather returns by Tuesday with another system expected to roll into the Sierra Thursday, bringing increased chances for stronger winds and precipitation.
There is a Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Tahoe from 9:00 a.m. to midnight Monday. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected with waves 1 to 3 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Every ten years the country undergoes a census count, the results of which are used for many different things from funding to boundaries of elected officials.
Ever since the count results were released, districts and states have been revamping boundaries based on where the population now resides. There have been major shifts in populations, resulting in California losing one seat in the House of Representatives, and boundaries being recalculated for the Assembly, Senate, Congress, and Board of Equalization.

Lake Tahoe’s Chanukah celebrations will receive a significant boost this year with the carving and lighting of a large Ice Menorah at the Ski Run Marina. A sculptor will use a chainsaw and carving tools to carve blocks of ice into a four-foot ice menorah.
Chanukah, The Festival of Lights- for many brings back fond memories of childhood years and serves to renew our sense of identity. The Chanukah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength, and inspiration. Such is the purpose of a community-wide celebration to be held at the Ski Run Marina.

Grant enables SLTPD to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Dangerous and illegal driving behaviors will be the target of a new grant received by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).
They will be rolling out a police services traffic services program to deter these actions that increase the risk of crashes in the community.
The grant will pay for additional enforcement measures, including:
- DUI checkpoints and patrols specifically focused on suspected impaired drivers.
0 Bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operations focused on driver behaviors that put vulnerable road users at risk.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Two restaurants in El Dorado County that have been operating without required health permits had complaints against them filed in Superior Court this week. The County filed complaints against Apple Bistro and Danette's Brick Oven Pub for continuing to operate, even though they'd had their health permits revoked in 2020 after they both defied the State's orders to not offer indoor dining at the height of the pandemic.

Carson City crash victims identified as married Dayton couple

A married couple from Dayton has been identified as the two deceased victims in the crash in Carson City which resulted in multiple injuries, according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner.
70-year-old Tana Powell was pronounced dead on the scene.
Her husband Don Powell, 74, was pronounced dead after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center by CareFlight.

This comes after the superintendents of all El Dorado County School Districts sent a joint letter to Governor Newsom, telling him they're under attack for enforcing the State's mandates for students in grades K-12.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - Despite a summer dive season filled with challenges, the SCUBA dive team that embarked on the effort to clean up Lake Tahoe is now well past the halfway point, having reached the west shore. The team has covered over 43.5 miles of shoreline since the clean-up effort began at Edgewood on Lake Tahoe’s south shore on May 14 and is bracing for a cold winter of diving with just over 28 miles to go until they reach the finish line.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Veterans, families, and the community attended today's Veterans Day celebration at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe.
Almost 100 people attended the ceremony, traditionally held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This was when the guns fell silent on the battlefields of World War 1 after Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiegne, France.
Those gathered also honored the first responders in attendance from South Lake Tahoe Fire and Police departments with a standing ovation.

Newsom appoints Superior Court judges for El Dorado County and other jurisdictions

Governor Gavin Newsom appointed a new judge to the El Dorado County Superior Court Wednesday along with an Associate Justice and ten other Superior Court judges. El Dorado County had an opening on the bench and will have another opening in January with the retirement of Judge Suzanne Kingsbury.

STATELINE, Nev. — Spectra has named Kevin Boryczki as the first general manager for the new Tahoe South Events Center. He brings almost two decades of experience in venue, event, and sports management to his new role.
Spectra is the private management and hospitality company selected by the Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority in March to manage the new center.

The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT), which includes local, state, and federal partners, begins prescribed fire operations around Lake Tahoe and will continue through much of the winter season, weather and conditions permitting. Barton Foundation awards $100,000 to 12 South Lake Tahoe non-profits

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Barton Foundation’s Community Health Grants program recently awarded $100,000 in funding to 12 local non-profit organizations engaged in healthcare-related initiatives in South Lake Tahoe.
The non-profit organizations were chosen for their work in addressing the areas most pressing healthcare needs—Mental Health, Substance Use, and Access to Healthcare—as identified by the Community Health Needs Assessment. Since 2008, the Barton Foundation has provided over $600,000 in funding to local agencies that support community members facing these challenges.
