It came down to the last hole to separate the two leaders, Mardy Fish, and Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors Guard Curry had an eagle on 18 to become only the fifth active player, the first since then-Tennessee Titans placekicker Al del Greco won in 2000, and the first African American, to win the popular tournament. He had two fourth-place finishes in the past.
MasterCraft at Lake Tahoe supported its Surf to Save Lives campaign
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/16/2023 - 5:47pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - MasterCraft has been involved in the American Century Championship (ACC) for a few years now, offering celebrities and players the opportunity to go out on their boats between rounds. This year, celebrities could enjoy their time on the water while also supporting a great cause. The ‘Surf to Save Lives’ campaign was launched in May by MasterCraft to raise funds and awareness for the St. Jude mission.
They had a large display of boats near the 17th tee all week, as well as rides on the lake.

On Friday, July 14 at 4:57 a.m., two suspects entered the C.O.D. Casino in Minden, Nev., and were able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Casino employees immediately called 911.

“I knew if I could just get off to a good start that I’d have more fun out there,” the four-time NBA champion said. “And that three-hole stretch at the beginning, I went birdie-birdie-eagle, and I was feeling good.”
Curry was paired with the other Currys in the tournament, dad Dell and brother Seth. Dell scored an 18 and Seth a 5.
Heat Advisory at Lake Tahoe and surrounding region this weekend; Know signs of heatstroke, heat exhaustion
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/14/2023 - 6:01pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a heat advisory in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin from noon on Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday. Reno and the Carson Valley will see high temperatures of 95-105 degrees, with low to mid-90s around Lake Tahoe communities.
Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur so it is important to know how to care for yourself and know the warning signals.
Changes coming to prevent misuse and abuse of Tahoe beaches

The stories showed shocking images of volunteers and nonprofits removing thousands of pounds of litter from one Lake Tahoe beach following the July 4th holiday. The media coverage caused public outrage and drew widespread attention to the challenge of preventing litter at the iconic Sierra Nevada destination.

This year there is a record number of celebrities at 93, and the galleries could be a record with Saturday already sold out. Last year’s attendance topped 67,000, the sixth straight year the attendance record was broken.
"I love this event so much," said four-time NBA Champ Steph Curry on Thursday. "I have fun first and foremost, but also stay competitive."

"In the blink of an eye, our lives have been forever shattered as baby Charlie, previously declared brain dead, passed away on July 11, 2023, at 8:05 p.m.," said the baby's aunt.

On Thursday, July 20, UC Davis TERC will be hosting the annual State of the Lake presentation at Granlibakken Tahoe located at 725 Granlibakken Road just south of Tahoe City.
TERC director Geoff Schladow will present the much anticipated State of the Lake Report. The Tahoe State of the Lake report informs nonscientists about important factors affecting the health of Lake Tahoe and provides the scientific underpinnings for restoration and management decisions within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Additionally, the Board of Trustees unanimously elected Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority CEO Carol Chaplin as the Chair of the Board, Richard Jay as Vice-Chair, Jennifer Cunningham as Treasurer and Adam Kramer as Secretary for this fiscal year.

The American Century Championship offers a purse of $600,000 and network television exposure on NBC and is the most prestigious celebrity tournament in golf. The 54-hole competition is for current and former professional athletes, entertainers, and media commentators. The tournament is contested among 90 competitors under a modified Stableford form.
Closures in place for annual Death Ride, cycling the California Alps

Since 1978 cyclists have been challenged to ride a route with over 14,000 feet of climbing, over 103 miles in distance, six categorized climbs, and over three mountain passes.
There are some road closures those not participating in the race need to be aware of. The event runs from 5 a.m. - 6 p.m. SR89 and SR4 will close at 5 a.m. The Monitor Pass section of SR89 re-opens to vehicles at noon. The Ebbetts Pass section on SR4 re-opens at 4 p.m.
Sand Harbor boat ramp closure Saturday morning for Trans-Tahoe race

The swimmers will start their race at the beach located just south of the boat ramp at approximately 7 a.m.
The boat ramp will reopen for normal boater traffic at 8:30 a.m.

Tahoe Fund launches $50k campaign to repair 19 miles of trail in Desolation Wilderness

To address this critical need, the nonprofit Tahoe Fund is partnering with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association to launch a $50,000 matching campaign.
Residents can expect water shutoffs during Barton Avenue and 2nd Street Stormwater Drainage Project
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/12/2023 - 12:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – This summer, the City of South Lake Tahoe is building stormwater drains to address localized flooding and reduce runoff pollution on Barton Avenue, Helen Avenue, and 2nd Street. A new stormwater infiltration basin will also be constructed on 2nd Street, which will reduce fine sediment entering the lake and protect the clarity of Lake Tahoe.
To accommodate this project, South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) will be moving waterlines, which will result in some water shutdowns in the neighborhood.
Celebration of Life for Erich E. Alexander
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/12/2023 - 8:03amErich E. Alexander, May 16, 1957 - July 6, 2023. Our hearts are broken as we announce the loss of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Erich E. Alexander passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side.
He was a patient, loving, caring, sincere, and incredibly skilled person. He was grateful for every day. Erich was born in San Mateo, Calif., and spent his first seven years in Pleasanton, Calif. The family then moved to a new home in Dublin, Calif. where he lived with his two brothers and parents until he graduated from Dublin High School in 1975.

Prescribed fire operations at Spring Creek area of Lake Tahoe

Conditions and weather permitting, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is scheduled to burn piles at Spring Creek near South Lake Tahoe beginning today, July 10, 2023. Prescribed fire ignitions typically begin at 10 a.m. and smoke will be present.
The 26.4-acre project is expected to last until July 14.
Lake Tahoe to be home to a professional hockey team co-owned by Tim Tebow
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/10/2023 - 12:25pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow was at the Tahoe Blue Events Center Monday to announce that he and partner David Hodges are bringing professional hockey to Lake Tahoe.
The new center will be home to the first professional sports team to call the Lake Tahoe area home. The team will launch in October 2024.
Hockey players from Tahoe Hockey Academy, Tahoe Prep Hockey Academy, and the Lake Tahoe Lakers were on hand for the announcement on the steps of the new center which should be open by the beginning of September.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Optimist Club's annual Day in Paradise Duck Races will be held at Tahoe Paradise Park on Saturday, July 22 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The day full of family-friendly fun will include the duck races starting at noon, a beer garden, live music, a car show and shine, and food trucks with burgers, pizza, kettle corn, sno-cones, and more.
There is also a free bike valet provided by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition.
Tahoe Paradise Park is located at 1011 E San Bernardino Avenue in Meyers.
Warm week ahead for South Lake Tahoe, 90 by the weekend

By next weekend, a strong area of high pressure will develop across the southwestern U.S. which could yield some of the hottest temperatures so far this year with record
high temperatures possible, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
The final two rounds of the American Century Championship at Edgewood should see a high of 90 degrees.

The all-volunteer baseball organization said funds raised will help cover expenses associated with transportation, lodging, meals, and other incidentals for coaches the players and coaches.
The 2023 Pacific Southwest Babe Ruth 14u Regional All-Stars Tournament will be held July 16-22, followed by the 13u Regional All-Stars Tournament in Taft on July 23.

Men On Boats at the historic Valhalla Boathouse Theatre is based on the actual river expedition through the Grand Canyon by John Wesley Powell in 1869. The 10 male roles are played by 10 female actors, you will recognize many of our talented local yokel thespians. Histrionics ensue from the first moment the performance begins. To quote one of my fellow theatergoers last night, "The acting was enthusiastic, entertaining, and superb!"

Join us for this sweet summer ritual that began at Kiva Beach in 2011. Start your Wednesday mornings connecting with nature, meditation, breath, movement and community with a guided yoga class on the beach.
Everyone welcome. Please bring a towel, blanket or outdoor yoga mat to practice on (we will be on sand). It will most likely be sunny, so if you have sensitivities, bring appropriate sun protection. After class, optional beach clean up and/or cold plunge in the lake. Class starts at 8am and runs for a little over one hour.
