On November 16, 2021, at 4:45 p.m., a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a vehicular pursuit in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The suspect fleeing from the deputy was Blake Edward Thacker, a 31-year-old male who was wanted by the State of Oregon for a felony parole violation.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the fifth consecutive year, a tree was cut down and transported to the Heavenly Village for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration.
Early Tuesday morning, Ken Curtzwiler of K & K Services, Ed Cook Crane Services, and Haen Construction orchestrated the cutting of the large tree in South Lake Tahoe and transportation to its final destination.

Christmas Tree permits sell out in Lake Tahoe in 75 minutes - Truckee still has some available
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/17/2021 - 12:58pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 1,500 Christmas Tree permits offered this year by the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) were sold out by 9:15 a.m., just 75 minutes after officially going on sale.
The permits have always been popular, and lines were even seen some years winding around the LTBMU offices in South Lake Tahoe. Since the permit purchases went online through the Recreation.Gov website, sales have been brisk.
The Eldorado National Forest permits sold out quickly as well.
Lake Tahoe prescribed fire operations to resume after Thanksgiving

Prescribed fires help land managers reduce hazardous fuels that can feed unwanted wildfires. Smoke will be present.

Deadly crash in Douglas County after suspect leaves path of destruction

NHP identifies truck and trailer owners in south Carson City fatal crash, more charges added
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/16/2021 - 3:04pmThe Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the truck owner and trailer owner and has added more charges to the driver involved in the Nov. 9 multi-vehicle crash that killed a Dayton couple and injured several others at the junction of I-580, South Carson Street, and Highway 50.
The owners of the 2017 Ford F-350 truck are Xiomara Leyva and Alfredo Xiomara Leyva, both listed from Florida. The trailer owner, also out of Florida, is listed as Maria Cruz-Mirete, according to NHP.

Every ten years after the federal census, trustee lines for school districts must also be adjusted to ensure that each area contains the same number of

Heavenly and Northstar push back opening dates due to warm weather

The resorts will monitor conditions and provide an update on a new target opening date early next week.

City Council to vote on Riverside Avenue affordable housing project
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/15/2021 - 8:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City Council will consider transferring three lots on Riverside Avenue to the St. Joseph Community Land Trust for one dollar so the non-profit can develop three single-family moderate-income affordable housing during a public hearing at its meeting Tuesday night.
The parcels are located at 3141 Riverside Avenue and are currently undeveloped and used for off-street parking by many in the Al Tahoe area.
Lake Valley Firefighters Foundation thanks the community, uses donations to support others

Together, $140,000 was raised.
The Foundation is also expressing its gratitude for the hundreds of food and delicious treat donations from families and local caterers.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/14/2021 - 5:33pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a windy start to the week, and cooler weather returns by Tuesday with another system expected to roll into the Sierra Thursday, bringing increased chances for stronger winds and precipitation.
There is a Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Tahoe from 9:00 a.m. to midnight Monday. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected with waves 1 to 3 feet. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
Deadlines closing in on new boundaries for supervisors, congress, senate and assembly districts

Ever since the count results were released, districts and states have been revamping boundaries based on where the population now resides. There have been major shifts in populations, resulting in California losing one seat in the House of Representatives, and boundaries being recalculated for the Assembly, Senate, Congress, and Board of Equalization.

Lake Tahoe’s Chanukah celebrations will receive a significant boost this year with the carving and lighting of a large Ice Menorah at the Ski Run Marina. A sculptor will use a chainsaw and carving tools to carve blocks of ice into a four-foot ice menorah.
Chanukah, The Festival of Lights- for many brings back fond memories of childhood years and serves to renew our sense of identity. The Chanukah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength, and inspiration. Such is the purpose of a community-wide celebration to be held at the Ski Run Marina.

Grant enables SLTPD to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors

They will be rolling out a police services traffic services program to deter these actions that increase the risk of crashes in the community.
The grant will pay for additional enforcement measures, including:
- DUI checkpoints and patrols specifically focused on suspected impaired drivers.
0 Bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operations focused on driver behaviors that put vulnerable road users at risk.

El Dorado County files complaint against two restaurants continuing to operate without health permit

The County filed complaints against Apple Bistro and Danette's Brick Oven Pub for continuing to operate, even though they'd had their health permits revoked in 2020 after they both defied the State's orders to not offer indoor dining at the height of the pandemic.

Carson City crash victims identified as married Dayton couple
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/12/2021 - 12:48pmA married couple from Dayton has been identified as the two deceased victims in the crash in Carson City which resulted in multiple injuries, according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner.
70-year-old Tana Powell was pronounced dead on the scene.
Her husband Don Powell, 74, was pronounced dead after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center by CareFlight.

The Wreaths Across America (WAA) ceremony honoring active military personnel, veterans, and first responders will begin at 9:00 a.m.
The South Lake Tahoe chapter joins others from around the country in placing the wreaths on gravesites for the holidays.

The team has covered over 43.5 miles of shoreline since the clean-up effort began at Edgewood on Lake Tahoe’s south shore on May 14 and is bracing for a cold winter of diving with just over 28 miles to go until they reach the finish line.

Veterans and first responders honored in South Lake Tahoe ceremony
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/11/2021 - 7:08pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Veterans, families, and the community attended today's Veterans Day celebration at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe.
Almost 100 people attended the ceremony, traditionally held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This was when the guns fell silent on the battlefields of World War 1 after Germany signed an armistice agreement with the Allies in a railroad car outside Compiegne, France.
Those gathered also honored the first responders in attendance from South Lake Tahoe Fire and Police departments with a standing ovation.

Newsom appoints Superior Court judges for El Dorado County and other jurisdictions

El Dorado County had an opening on the bench and will have another opening in January with the retirement of Judge Suzanne Kingsbury.
