All okay after vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in Strawberry

STRAWBERRY, Calif. - A Sunday afternoon collision between a pedestrian and a Chevy Tahoe left a vehicle overturned and a pedestrian with very minor injuries near Strawberry, west of Lake Tahoe.

At 2:52 p.m. on January 21, 2019, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the Mile Marker 42 area in Strawberry, Calif. Their investigation shows a pedestrian was crossing from the north side of the road to the west side, watching the westbound vehicles for a safe crossing, unaware of the eastbound Chevy Tahoe when he went to walk across Highway 50. The driver of the SUV swerved to the right to avoid the 15-year-old male pedestrian, clipping him as the vehicle went off the south side of the road, collided with a stump and overturned, ending up about 20 feet down a slight embankment.

Nobody in the Chevy Tahoe was injured according to Officer Andrew Brown of the CHP. Brown said the SUV was not speeding. The vehicle was pulled out of the snow and towed.

Brown also said there are no confirmed reports that the teenager was crossing the road to go sledding.

The incident is still under investigation.
