Tahoe Chamber was recently recognized at the Western Association of Chamber Executives (W.A.C.E.) Conference in Anaheim for their accomplishments in political advocacy and communications.
The Core Competency Program of the Year Award was awarded to Tahoe Chamber in recognition of the chamber’s approach to their 2014 political advocacy campaign. The judges were especially impressed with how the chamber’s newly formed Independent Expenditure Committee used the Tahoe Future Vision 2020 document. The committee utilized the board-adopted Tahoe Future Vision 2020 as their guiding document in determining which candidates to support and they further wove the concepts of the Vision into their direct mail and radio advertisements. A score sheet was developed for evaluating candidates’ past actions, voting records and current positions in alignment with the Vision 2020 guiding principles of: Quality of Life, Economic Vitality, Sustainability, Infrastructure and Intellectual Capital.
In addition to the Core Competency Program of the Year Award, Tahoe Chamber received first place for its 2014 e-newsletters during the W.A.C.E. Communications Awards. This award recognizes online publications that cover important business and community-related topics with an emphasis on readability, balanced content and professionalism. The judges made note of the fact that the e-newsletter provides “concise content of relevance to today’s business owners and managers”.
W.A.C.E. is the premier organization for education and professional development for chamber executives. W.A.C.E. represents over 850 chamber professionals in 18 Western states and Canada. This year’s conference was attended by 517 professionals and featured numerous breakout sessions and key note speakers such as the internationally renowned Seth Mattison. Tahoe Chamber has previously been recognized for its Geotourism event Sample the Sierra as well as the publication of Tahoe Future A South Shore Community Vision 2020, and the Tahoe Future website used during the Regional Plan update to keep community members apprised of the process. A criteria of a winning program is that it must have met or exceeded each respective chamber’s goals and the program must be able to be replicated by other chambers.
Tahoe Chamber is honored to have been recognized for these awards acknowledging their ongoing efforts. The board and staff of Tahoe Chamber are committed to providing exceptional services and events to the business community throughout 2015 and beyond.
