Epic Discovery Project and illegal tree cutting on next TRPA board agenda

Illegal tree cutting at a South Lake Tahoe hotel and approval of the Heavenly Mountain Resort Epic Discovery Project are just two of the agenda items for the next Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board meeting.

The TRPA board meeting will be held on March 25 at the Chateau in Incine Village and on March 26 at the agency's office in Stateline.

The meeting agenda is not available on the TRPA website due to a computer glitch but it is available on the Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Agency's website.

On Wednesday the board will look at unauthorized tree removal at The Landing Resort and Spa in South Lake Tahoe. An investigation revealed that a former General Manager at the property had four trees larger 14" to 24" in diameter on removed from the lake side of the new hotel without approval from the City of South Lake Tahoe or TRPA. The owner, James Demetriades, has agreed to pay a $40,000 fine and plant four 15-20 foot Jeffrey Pines in a similar location.

On Thurday at 9:30 a.m. they will vote on Heavenly's Epic Discovery Project which will expand year round recreational opportunities within the developed portions of the ski area.
