NHP: South Lake Tahoe Woman Critically Injured in Carson City Motorcycle Crash

Two people remain critically injured after a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The names of the victims have not been released but the passenger of the unregistered green 2007 Suzuki motorcycle is a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman and the driver, 20, is from Nebraska, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. They were flown separately to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The crash happened at 10:41 p.m. when the motorcycle, traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Roop Street approached Fairview and struck a gray Chevy Silverado driven by a 60-year-old Gardnerville man. He was not injured but the force of the crash caused the truck to spin twice, said Lopez.

The male 20-year-old driver of the motorcycle is likely the same one who is believed to have led Carson City Sheriff's Office patrol deputies in a pursuit through Carson City earlier in the evening. On three occasions, law officers stopped chasing the motorcycle because of the unsafe rate of speed, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The road at Fairview and Roop Street was closed until 2:33 a.m. Sunday morning.
