A trailer being towed by a 2007 International Truck became unhitched and traveled across several lanes of I580 near the Mt. Rose Highway on April 6 at about 8:57 a.m., crashing into a car being driven by 63-year-old Filipe Segura.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), Segura was driving an Oldsmobile Alero and was unable to avoid the trailer that was moving uncontrolled across the highway due to high wind gusts and the road's downhill grade.
Segura, a resident of Carson City, Nevada was wearing a seatbelt.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Karen Garretson of the Multi-disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) is investigating this crash. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information related to this crash is encouraged to contact Trooper Hildebrand at (775)687-9600 or kgarretson@dps.state.nv.us regarding NHP case #170400459
