Two Carson City men die in separate accidents

A 61-year-old man from Carson City has died from injuries sustained after being hit by a food truck in Carson City Friday morning.

At 7:30 a.m. September 29, 2017, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to the intersection of East Long Street and State Street in Carson City. Their preliminary investigation indicates that a red 1976 Chevrolet food truck was traveling eastbound on Long Street as it approached the intersection with State Street. Gordon Skogan was on foot when he entered the travel lane near the marked crosswalk and was struck by the right front of the food truck.

After the impact, the driver of the food truck stopped, contacted law enforcement and then waited for the arrival of emergency responders. The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the collision.

At 12:44 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017, NHP trooper were called out to Highway 50 east of Silver Springs where a car collided with a horse in the roadway.

Their preliminary Investigation indicates that a 1998 Maroon Ford Explorer was traveling westbound when it struck feral horse in the roadway. The driver attempted to avoid the horse, but over-corrected his vehicle, causing him to lose control. The Ford Explorer began to rollover causing Andrew Woods Corbin, 26, to be ejected. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Mr. Corbin was transported via CareFlight to a Reno hospital where he succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the crash.
