Two transported to hospital after trash truck overturns in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two male employees of South Tahoe Refuse (STR) were transported to Barton Hospital Thursday after the trash truck they were in turned over.

At 10:36 a.m. October 15, the trash truck was heading south on Pioneer Trail when its driver attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Elks Club Drive. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the driver was using excessive speed when he tried to make the tight turn, and the fully loaded truck turned over onto its left side on Elks Club.

Douglas County crash claims life of 70-year-old woman

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the 70-year-old woman killed in a Feb. 28 crash on US-395 south of Johnson Lane in Minden.

At 9:02 p.m., NHP troopers responded to the serious injury crash involving three people in two vehicles.

South Lake Tahoe rollover crash sends two to hospital with minor injuries

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A woman and her three-year-old child were transported to Barton Hospital Wednesday evening after their vehicle rolled several times on Pioneer Trail just east of Jicarilla Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

The early reports completed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) state the 25-year-old driver lost control of her vehicle and it hit the guardrail twice before rolling and landing on its roof. Witnesses told responding Lake Valley Firefighters they saw the car roll five times.

Vehicle fatalities decline, pedestrian and cyclist deaths rise on Nevada roads

The Nevada Departments of Transportation and Public Safety are reminding Nevadans to share the road after Nevada pedestrian traffic deaths rose in 2017 amid a decline in overall statewide traffic deaths.

In 2017, Douglas County had a rise in all deaths on the road: Fatal crashes up from 5 to 9, fatalities up from 5 to 11, alcohol fatal crashes up from 1 to 2, and number of fatalities in those crashes up from 1 to 3.

NHP joins others to focus on drivers without seatbelts

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be joining other law enforcement agencies, looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seatblets as well as children not properly secured in booster seats.

Deputies and troopers across the state will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations through December 2, 2017 in their "Joining Forces" campaign to save lives. .

A 61-year-old man from Carson City has died from injuries sustained after being hit by a food truck in Carson City Friday morning.

South Lake Tahoe woman dies in motorcycle crash

An afternoon motorcycle ride through Hope Valley turned fatal for a 64-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman on Sunday, September 17.

At approximately 4:48 p.m., the unidentified woman was riding her Harley Davidson westbound on SR-88 and slowing at the junction with SR-89. She was making a left turn onto southbound SR-89. At the same time, a 58-year-old woman from Gardnerville, Nevada was traveling eastbound on SR-88 in her Buick La Sabre. She was approaching the same intersection at approximately 50-55 mph.

Expect extra traffic on roads to and around Lake Tahoe this weekend

1.6 million Americans will hit the roads this weekend according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), and because of this, Caltrans is alerting motorists to anticipate delays on area roadways as motorists make their way to their Memorial Day weekend destinations.

Click it or Ticket campaign on Nevada roadways

Through the end of May, the Nevada Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies have launched Click it or Ticket, an campaign to educate motorists on seatbelt usage. During this time, officers will be joining forces and watching for drivers and occupants in vehicles who are not wearing their seatbelts and/or children who are not properly secured in car or booster seat(s). Law enforcement will be stopping drivers for traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations if unbuckled.

Unhitched trailer leads to death of Carson City resident on Reno highway

A trailer being towed by a 2007 International Truck became unhitched and traveled across several lanes of I580 near the Mt. Rose Highway on April 6 at about 8:57 a.m., crashing into a car being driven by 63-year-old Filipe Segura.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), Segura was driving an Oldsmobile Alero and was unable to avoid the trailer that was moving uncontrolled across the highway due to high wind gusts and the road's downhill grade.

Segura, a resident of Carson City, Nevada was wearing a seatbelt.

Fatalities on Nevada's roads rose in 2016

It wasn't record setting, but it was disturbing for safety officials in Nevada to read the reports that more people died on Nevada roads in 2016 than the previous year.

Preliminary data shows that 327 traffic fatalities occurred on the state's roads in 2016, one more death than in 2015. There were five more crashes, more pedestrians deaths by vehicles (5), and more motorcyclist deaths (21).

Alcohol related crashes and deaths decreased in 2016, with 11.46 percent fewer deaths and 15.38 percent fewer crashes relating to drunk driving.

Nevada law enforcement cracking down on seat belt violations

In an effort to save lives, the Nevada Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will be looking for motorists and their occupants who are not buckled up during their "Joining Forces" event November 14 through December 10, 2016 on Nevada roadways.

Foreign visitor to Lake Tahoe dies in single car crash

A Taiwanese visitor to the United States died in a single car crash on Highway 50 in Lake Tahoe on Sunday, October 16.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to an injury crash west of Douglas County mile marker 6 on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

Jiann-Juh Tseng, 72, was driving a Nissan Altima westbound in the slow lane on Highway 50 when he traveled over the white fog line on the right side of his lane, drove onto the shoulder and continued off the roadway and hit a tree.

NHP targeting drivers and passengers not wearing seatbelts

Nevada law enforcement agencies are "Joining Forces" from May 16 through June 1, looking for drivers and their passengers who are not buckled up while on the road.

They will also be checking to ensure children are properly in car or booster seat(s).

Troopers, deputies, and officers will be stopping drivers for different traffic offenses and issuing citations for seatbelt violations throughout Northern Nevada.

Single car rollover near Walker Lake claims life of German visitor

A German woman visiting the United States with her family died in a single vehicle rollover crash near Walker Lake on US95 May 7.

Liane Kramer, 24, was one of six people traveling north in a 2010 Toyota Sienna when the driver, 20-year-old Nina Kiseleva, went off the roadway after passing a semi-truck and trailer according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The car overturned in the dirt shoulder and came to rest on its wheels facing southwest at approximately 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

Nevada fatalities on the road rose in 2015

While California figures are not in yet, Nevada has released a report on their traffic fatalities for 2015.

Preliminary data shows that there were 321 Nevada traffic deaths in 2015, an increase by 30 deaths over the previous year.

When compared with the number of miles driven in Nevada, though, traffic deaths have dropped from an average of 1.54 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled in 2008 to 1.13 fatalities per 100 million miles in 2013. Statewide, traffic fatalities reached an all-time high of 432 in 2006.

Nathaniel Marston, 40, the former star of soap operas One Life to Live and As the World Turns, was seriously injured in a single vehicle rollover accident in Northern Nevada on Friday, October 30.

WWII veteran was victim in Monday's fatal car crash on Kingsbury Grade

Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the 93-year-old man who died after a single car crash on SR207/Kingsbury Grade on July 20.

World War II veteran John Jacob Filas of Zephyr Cove was driving his Ford Ranger when it drifted off the road and crashed into a tree. NHP responded to the 2:44 p.m. accident. Filas was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where he later died due to his injuries.

93-year-old Zephyr Cove man dies in Kingsbury Grade accident

A 93-year-old Zephyr Cove man has died following Monday's single car accident on Kingsbury Grade.

The man, who's identity hasn't been officially released pending notification of next of kin, was traveling westbound on SR 207/Kingsbury Grade at when, for an unknown reason, the 2008 Ford Ranger pickup he was driving drifted off the right side of the road. The truck went through a dirt right-of-way and struck a tree.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the 2:44 p.m. call near the road's intersection with Katherine Drive.

Woman dies in Highway 50 accident near Glenbrook

An accident Wednesday morning near Glenbrook, NV claimed the life of a woman and her dog.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating the fatal accident which happened just after 8:30 a.m. June 3 on Highway 50 between Cave Rock and Glenbrook.

For unknown reasons, the woman, who was traveling north, went off the road, down a short embankment where the vehicle ran into rocks. She was traveling with her dog. Both the woman and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

Teen killed in Fernley head on collision

A 19-year old Silver Springs teen was killed Sunday after the car she was driving was hit by another near Fernley High School.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers were called to the scene of a two vehicle head-on collision that occurred on US50 Alternate near Lyon County mile marker 11.

North Lake Tahoe driver booked in fatal DUI crash

A vehicle passenger is dead and the driver booked on suspicion of DUI in a fatal crash along Lake Tahoe's North Shore.

Killed in the crash was Daniel Koenig, 24, of Tahoe City, a passenger in Subaru Outback that crashed into a power pole about 2:20 a.m. Saturday along California 28, the California Highway Patrol said.

Koenig, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, west of Ridgewood Drive, the CHP said.
