Lake Tahoe Community College was one of two colleges in the state to win national recognition from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the team’s exemplary 2015/16 budget.
At Tuesday evening’s Board of Trustees meeting at Lake Tahoe Community College, Board President Dr. Fritz Wenck presented the college’s budget development team with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the team’s exemplary 2015/16 budget. The award reflects LTCC’s firm commitment to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting.
"This award acknowledges our multi-year effort to improve LTCC’s budget, providing more comprehensive and transparent information to our campus and community,” said LTCC’s Vice President of Administrative Services Jeff DeFranco. “This was such a great recognition of the team effort that goes into this work.”
They competed against budget presentations submitted by counties and municipalities, water and transportation districts, park and recreation districts, and other schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada.
To receive this award, LTCC’s team had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are used to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and as a communication tool. Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four of these categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to win the award. LTCC was only one of two colleges in California to win the GFOA’s award, competing with budget presentations submitted from dozens of counties and municipalities, water and transportation districts, parks and recreation districts, and other government entities in North America.
Past winners of the GFOA’s award have gone on to pioneer efforts to improve budgeting, and have served as guiding examples for other governments throughout the United States and Canada.
