Ivonne Larson, the Principal of South Tahoe High, was named Assistant Superintendent by the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board on Tuesday, April 22. She will be in charge of Secondary Education, Career Technical Education and AVID for the district starting July 1, 2014.
This is the first time LTUSD has had an Assistant Superintendent since Barbara Davis resigned in August of 2005. The new position for Assistant Superintendent is part time.
The District will post a job opening for STHS Principal this week to replace Larson.
Larson has been the Principal of South Tahoe High School since 2006. During her tenure as Principal, she has witnessed the complete transformation of the STHS campus into a premier state-of-the-art campus with programs to prepare all students for the skills they need to be successful in the 21st Century.
Larson started her career at LTUSD in 1989 as a teacher. She taught various grades from K to College until 2001.
Subsequent to her teaching career, she became the Program Manager for the Sacramento County Office of Education’s AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program, serving middle and high schools in ten, while still maintaining her residence in South Lake Tahoe.
Ms. Larson is unique in that she has extensive experience in program management, staff development, technology, negotiations, teaching and K-16 curriculum. Being multilingual and multicultural, Ms. Larson has a keen awareness and appreciation for English language learners. What sets her apart is her “can do spirit”, her flexibility and creativity, her passion for equity and excellence, and how she approaches challenges as opportunities.
With unprecedented changes in public education including implementation of Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and the Smarter Balance Assessments (SBAC), Ms. Larson will be an integral part of Lake Tahoe Unified School District’s transition process.
