Wind and possible wet weather ahead for Lake Tahoe and Sierra

A strong cold front will move through the Sierra and Western Nevada beginning today through Monday with locally gusty winds expected late this afternoon and this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Strong winds are expected ahead of and behind the front Monday. If the forecast is accurate, the winds could create critical fire weather conditions, especially east of highway 395. Behind the front, much cooler temperatures are expected on Tuesday, with highs as much as 20 degrees below normal with rain and snow showers.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Monday: Rain likely, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Windy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to between 25 and 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Monday Night: A chance of rain before 11pm, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Breezy, with a west wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 29.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 59.
Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 38.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 63.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 41.
