Meyers celebrates Summer Solstice with community gathering

The Meyers Summer Solstice Celebration “Fire” will take place on June 23, from 2-6 p.m. at 3170 Highway 50 in honor of the 5th anniversary of the Angora Fire.  Face painting, local culture and music will set the stage. This free and public family-centered event is designed to bring together the healing, artistic, and recreational cultures of Lake Tahoe in a community street fair that highlights the Washoe ancestral land that is centered on the “sacred giver of life,” Da ow a ga (Lake Tahoe).

Lake Tahoe  has drawn many from the healing arts to practice in and around its sacred waters. Practitioners here truly embrace the innate healing power of the body. They are gentle, honoring, and committed to your highest potential. Embracing this knowledge truly makes their work unique, powerful, and transformational. The Lake has also attracted artists, painters, sculptors, and writers who are inspired to capture its natural beauty in their individual creations. The outdoor playground attracts people from all over the globe to play in the fertile valleys, high deserts, alpine meadows, and snow-covered mountains.

“Lake Tahoe has always been a destination for healing, and this is the vision for our summer solstice celebration,” says Dr. Joshua Welch, who, along with the support of the Meyers Business Group, is heading up the inaugural event. The theme of the solstice celebration is “fire,” to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Angora Fire and the community’s ability to unite. Costumes, bicycles, strollers and all non-motorized vehicles

will be encouraged around this theme. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and join the parade; those interested will meet at the stage at 4 p.m.
