Fire in Douglas County burning in Pine Nut Mountains

8:30 p.m. update: East Fork Fire Protection responded to a wildland fire at around noon today. The fire was in the Pine Nut Range near the Ruby Mine area. The fire was a slow growth fire and has been mostly contained. The majority of the fire appears to be on private property.

Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service and Nevada Department of Forestry all assisted with suppression efforts. The efforts are winding down, resources are being released from the fire and the crews are in the mop up stage.
Crews will continue to reinforce the line around the fire throughout the evening, and the incident will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

The cause of the fire was determined to be human caused, an accident. The investigation is still on going

East Fork Fire, Bureau of Land Management, along with Douglas County Sheriffs are on the scene of a 15-acre brush fire at Pine Nut Creek Road south of Pine Nut Road #2. Pine Nut Road #2 is currently closed to area residents, and there are voluntary evacuations in progress for the small number of residents in the area.

There are seven brush trucks, two helicopters, two water trucks and one hand crew committed to the fire at this time.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, it is unknown how the fire started.
