Two new fires in Northern Nevada in Washoe Valley and Cold Springs

11:30 p.m. update: All evacuation orders have been lifted on both the Brenda Fire and the Cold Springs Fire.

Multiple resources aggressively attacked both fires Friday, preventing them from moving through the dry hillsides.

As of tonight, Truckee Meadows Fire Department is reporting 1500-2000 acres have burned in the Cold Springs Fire.

The Brenda Fire east of Washoe Lake has burned an estimated 1200 acres and it is 10 percent contained.

Two wildland fires started in Northern Nevada Friday, prompting closure of Highway 395 in the Washoe Valley and intermittent closures of Hwy 395 at Cold Springs.

The Brenda Fire in northeast Washoe Valley started just after 3:00 p.m. and has already grown to 500 acres according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. There is a Northbound and southbound Alternative Route US Highway 395 at North Eastlake is closed. Homes are threatened and voluntary evacuations are under way for the Brenda Way area east of Washoe Lake. Galena High School in Reno is the current evacuation center.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, both northbound and southbound lanes of Alternative Route US Highway 395 at North Eastlake is closed.

The Cold Springs Fire started at about 1:00 p.m. and is burning along Highway 395 south of Cold Springs, near the California/Nevada border. It is northwest of Reno near White Lake and it is burning east and flames have jumped the 9500 block of Red Rock Road. Evacuations are underway in the Silver Knolls area.

Flames have reportedly consumed 1000 acres at this time, according to KOLO-TV in Reno.

An evacuation center has been set up at O'Brien Middle School. Washoe Search and Rescue is notifying people in the area of the possible need to leave.

Multiple agencies including air tankers are responding to both fires.
