Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the 93-year-old man who died after a single car crash on SR207/Kingsbury Grade on July 20.
World War II veteran John Jacob Filas of Zephyr Cove was driving his Ford Ranger when it drifted off the road and crashed into a tree. NHP responded to the 2:44 p.m. accident. Filas was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center where he later died due to his injuries.
John Filas was the Grand Marshal of the 2015 South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade.
Mr. Filas was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor.
Trooper H. Shook of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Incline substation is investigating this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information related to this incident is encouraged to contact him at (775) 831-2416 or hshook@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-150701840.
