Tahoe Derby Dames roundup; August 18 match dubbed 'Deep Blue Derby'

The Tahoe Derby Dames hosted another exciting double header on Saturday, July 21 at Bijou Park.
The first bout featured Tahoe's Green Team up against The North Bay Bruisers from Sonoma County. Although the Tahoe Green Team battled through the Bruisers' great defensive plays and scoring jammers, it wasn’t enough as the Bruisers won with a final score of 213 to 79.
Coach Jack Hammer stated, "I have seen continuous improvement of our green team as they have more bouting experiences. The competitors on the team really stepped it up and are starting to skate at a higher level. I look forward to the next level of aggressiveness of our Green Team." Coach Jack Hammer would like to acknowledge Sunshine/Nightmare for her jamming skills, Spicy M and Mad Dogg for both blocking and jamming, and GateKeeper and Pixie Pow-Her for defensive strategy.

The main event featured The Tahoe Derby Dames Black team vs.The Sacred City Disciples from Sacramento. A tightly matched bout to the very end, Coach Hammer has been looking forward to this bout since the start of the season. "I completely loved this bout. It was derby at an even higher level. Our skaters rose to the occasion but it just got away at the end. This was the most competitive bout that I have ever been a part of and it was absolutely awesome." said Hammer. GiGi Allen, captain for The Dames: "The Black team played well together, there were a lot of good things happening. In the end we did not emerge triumphant but it was a close one the whole time, and we have a great foundation set for future success." Final score in this nail-biter was 118 for Sacred City and 100 for The Tahoe Derby Dames.

The first ever Tahoe Roller Derby Tournament billed as “Deep Blue Derby” is happening Saturday, August 18 at Bijou Community Park.
