COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One more person has died of COVID-19 in El Dorado County. A man from Placerville in the 50-64 age group died in an out-of-area hospital, it was confirmed today.

El Dorado County health officials have confirmed another 26 positive cases of COVID-19 for the county since Friday. Of those, 11 are from the Lake Tahoe region, three in El Dorado Hills, six in the Greater Placerville region, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, two in North County, and one in South County. Two are under the age of 18, 15 aged 18-49, six aged 50-64,and three aged 65 or older.

1,010 more tests were administered. There were 984 negative tests returned, 36 assumed recoveries and currently 158 assumed active cases of COVID-19.

There have been a total of two deaths.

Three additional people have been admitted to the hospital, two of those to the ICU. There are currently four people hospitalized with three of those in the ICU. There is one suspected cases of COVID-19 in the ICU.

The interactive dashboard for COVID-19 shows all current data in both Spanish and English. The dashboard shows cases by episode date, not by the date El Dorado County Public Health was notified about the new case. Episode date is the earliest of the following dates which serves as the best approximation of the date of infection:
- symptom onset date
- diagnosis date
- specimen collection date
- date received
- date of death

The rate of new cases in El Dorado County is the number of cases received in the state’s electronic lab reporting system (CalREDIE) over a 14-day period. The 14-day case rate being used to make the determination for whether or not a county is on the monitoring list is being calculated using episode date.

The 7-day positivity rate for El Dorado County is 5.1 percent, and the 14-day rate of new cases is 110. The Lake Tahoe region is High (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 100 or greater). El Dorado Hills was in this category but has moved down to moderate. Much of the balance of the county is Moderate (case rate per 100,000 population over the previous 14 days of 26-99).

The new dashboard also shows a graph of all cases, to date, or the estimated date a person become infected.

County-wide there have been 755 cases with 364 of those in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad County Region. The individual was a male Douglas County resident in his 80’s with underlying conditions. There also 39 new cases and 11 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region since Friday. This brings the total number of cases to 803, with 633 recoveries, and fifteen deaths, 155 cases remain active.

The Monday cases are:
• A male Lyon County resident under the age of 18 with a connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Lyon County resident in her 60’s with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Carson City resident in her 20’s with a connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Carson City resident under the age of 18 with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Douglas County resident in her 30’s with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Lyon County resident in her 50’s with a connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Lyon County resident in her 30’s with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A male Lyon County resident in his 20’s with a connection to a previously reported case.

Carson City Health and Human Services is working to identify close risk contacts to prevent further spread of the disease. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect their identity, no further information about the cases will be released.

Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing for Quad-County Residents

There are two drive-thru COVID-19 testing events for Quad-County residents this week. Testing is free of charge; first come, first served, no appointments or reservations.

Washoe County

The Regional Information Center is reporting 88 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths in Washoe County since Friday.

Placer County

There have been 220 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Placer County since Friday. County officials say the statewide reporting system is experiencing processing delays and figures may be underestimated.

Lake Tahoe area cases - 14 (+2) are in Tahoe City, 62 (+10) in Kings Beach, 8 (+1) in Olympic Village, 16 (+0) in Truckee, 5 (+0) in Carnelian Bay.

Their seven-day test rate is 10.5 percent positive, and 14-day case rate is 110 per 100,000. Seven-day increase is 19 percent, 14-day increase is 33 percent.
