The parent company of many Applebee's and IHOP restaurants plans to close up to 160 locations according to a report released Thursday, but both the South Lake Tahoe and Carson City locations are franchised by other companies and therefore not affected.
In fact, the South Lake Tahoe IHOP will reopen Saturday, August 12 with a new look, new logo and new signage. Their being closed for the remodel led to speculation they were included in the list of shuttered restaurants.
Mr. Stax Inc of Valencia, California owns dozens of IHOP restaurants in Nevada, California, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York including those in South Lake Tahoe and Carson City.
The South Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, Sparks and Sacramento Applebee's franchises are owned by Apple American Group who own a total of 477 of them across 26 states.
The IHOPs and Applebee's on the hit list are owned by DineEquity.
