Caltrans updates Echo Summit two week closure time frame

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.. - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has updated the estimated closure time for US50 over Echo Summit.

Beginning in early October, most likely October 4, Caltrans will close Highway 50 at Echo Summit for up to two weeks, weather permitting, to conduct bridge deck construction and other related work. This construction will bring the bridge up to current seismic standards and improve safety for decades to come. Highway 50 will be closed 24 hours a day, including weekends to get the work done as quick as possible. No vehicles will be allowed over the summit.

There are two public information meetings next week to explain the closure, discuss the Echo Summit Bridge Project and give residents an idea on how they can travel west during this time. They will explain a resident's pass system at these meetings. Caltrans representatives will detail the closure and provide construction updates. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
