City seeking applications for Roads Management Authority Commission.
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/02/2017 - 8:59pm
If Measure C is approved by the voters on November 7, the City of South Lake Tahoe will need to appoint five to seven people to the new Roads Management Authority Commission.
The City Council promised the community to establish the commission that would approve road projects annually from funds generated from the proposed one-half of one percent sales tax increase. All monies collected are guaranteed to go solely to roads as dictated by law.
The commission will exist for 15 years, the length of the sales tax increase should it be approved. It will consist of no less than five members and no more than seven, and always an odd number. They will meet at least once a year.
Commencing on January 1, 2018, each member of the commission shall serve a term of four years with no term limits. The appointment of the initial commission members shall result in three being appointed to a four year term and the balance of the Commission members being appointed for a two year term in order to stagger the membership terms.
Just as with all City commissions, this new commission will be appointed by the City Council. In the event any vacancies occur during the term of the commission, such vacancies shall be filled for the remaining unexpired terms in the same manner as the original appointments.
One must be a resident and eligible voter of the City of South Lake Tahoe to apply for the commission.
Annually the commission will vote on an expenditure plan for road construction, maintenance and repair with Measure C funds. They will also present an annual report to the City Council.
Applications may be obtained at the City Clerk's Office located at 1901 Airport Rd., South Lake Tahoe, California, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and are also available on the City of South Lake Tahoe’s website at www.cityofslt.us – City Clerk-Boards and Commissions. Completed applications must be returned to the City Clerk's Office no later than 5:00 p.m., on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2017.
If you have any questions, please contact Susan Alessi, City Clerk at 542-6004.
