The Lake Valley Fire Protection District's Wildfire Prevention Program has organized a FREE chipping day for City of South Lake Tahoe residents on October 18. With the help of the California Conservation Corp and cooperation from South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, residents can get help with defensible space and slash removal.
In order to participate in the chipping service, homeowners must follow these guidelines:
• Place slash and brush piles adjacent to a driveway or street so the chipper crew can readily have access.
• Place the cut ends of branches and trees facing out towards the driveway or road.
• The chipper can only handle material up to 6 inches in diameter.
• Piles must be free of trash, including rocks, dirt, wires and lumber. They must also be free of pine needles, pine cones, leaves or shrubs.
• After the pile has been placed, contact (530)577-CHIP (2447) and leave your name, address and phone number to get on the list. Please state that you are in the CITY LIMITS for the October 18th Free Chipping Day.
All chips will be left in a pile on the property. For information about defensible space, stop by Lake Valley Station 7 at 2211 Keetak Street in Meyers, or visit www.livingwithfire.info/tahoe.
